Pools by Murphy took two years to complete our pool and only did so after we threatened to hire a lawyer. The plaster failed in the first year and we need to have the pool plaster redone for tens of thousands of dollars. Pools by Murphy will not return calls or emails. We paid top dollar to Pools by Murphy to renovate our pool and build a new deck. They made a lot of promises during the sales process, but became abrasive, rude, and at one point physically threatening during construction. Every aspect of what they did needed to be repaired, and they only fixed a part of it, making promises to come back and fix the rest. After years of not getting service, we got a court settlement to pay a competent contractor to fix it. They still haven't paid that, claiming that they can't afford 10k. This could possibly be one of the worst run companies in existence. The shotty craftsmanship of my pool has led to extensive problems. The pool cracked so bad it was literally rusting, it cost me thousands to get it right. Now the pool is cracked again and the tiles and grout are chipping off and falling into the pool. Time and time again they told me they would be out to warranty their work and never show up. I should clarify my pool is only a few years old as well. I have written correspondence with the company dating back to early June and it is lie after lie. I just had to retain an Attourney to take legal action against them, and according to my Attourney they have been sued a lot over the years. Just moved into a new home and selected them for pool service. Pricey but they showed up for three weeks. The guys that showed up were nice. Then they failed to show for three straight weeks. I've got leaves all over my pool, cannot use it. I emailed them, no response. Called and left message, no response. Finally reached them after a week or more and it seems they decided to close pools and skip servicing with no notification. Also, I had asked them to repair my heater. I pre-paid for the parts ($600). Then they out of the blue decide to send back the parts. Nuts! Totally disorganized. The people in the office are really bad. Now I am stuck having to find someone else to clean my pool and close it for the winter. read more

Impossible to speak with anyone directly - certainly understandable during covid but we've been dealing with it for years so it is not the pandemic that has changed our opinion. Even when scheduled, service techs don't always show up. Pool was opened by Murphy at the end of May and we still can't use it - and they haven't been out to fix or service. I am experiencing the same situation as Caroline T. Contracted date of completion June 12, 2013. It's July andxwe have a gunite shell. No one comes when they say and impossible to get a staight answer about anything. I am a teacher home for the summer with a 4 and 6-yr-old and I have a backyard that is unsafe and not usable. We can't set our swingset back up because there are dirt piles in the way. I wish more people would have written reviews. My advice to anyone currently dealing with them is to not pay them another penny until the pool is done! Awful! read more

Pools by Murphy is the worst run company I have ever worked with. Lie after lie. Horrendous finished product. No attention to detail. Most importantly, they do not back their warranty. Our pool has serious cracking and the gunite was not applied correctly, so that after one year, we already have significant cracking. We filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau that was ignored by the company. The owners were rude and tried to turn the issue around on us. The best part of summer is enjoying our Murphy pool with our family. The Murphy crew that opened our pool this summer was the best! We were able to swim in our pool the next day! They took pictures of all our equipment, in case we had an unexpected problem during the season. If we did, they would be able to easily identify the manufacturer and order replacement parts. read more

Within one year, the concrete at the bottom of my pool discolored badly. Reported this on three occasions and no returned calls despite saying they would call me. The service department is even WORSE then lie infest sales area. What a terrible company! Took 9 months to put in my pool in and it was a comedy of errors. 4 years ago when Pools By Murphy installed the pool I did have some delays but I was really happy with the finished product. I recently used them to install a salt system and a few other things. They have been extremely responsive and reasonably priced. I'm really happy we stuck with them. It seems whatever issues they had in the past have been resolved. Still NO Use of Pool - pool is out of compliancel!! 1st year to build pool! 2nd year, the gas company would NOT hook-up gas lines - as Murphy created a fire hazard with heater! 3rd Year, the Town Zoning banished the Pool - as it was 8 inched too close to neighbors - another 6 months to fix. Wasn't sure if I could give no stars, because if I could, I would. My experience with this company has been nothing short of a nightmare. When they installed the pool, they put the equipment in the wrong place, then wanted to charge more to move it. They used the wrong color on the decking. They have ruined my materials when closing and opening the pool. NOW the $47,000 pool that has a lifetime warranty, has a crack and the tiles are cracking and they want to blame it on Mother Nature and CHARGE me to fix it. I would give 0 if I could. The project was supposed to take 5 days. It took 5 weeks. They did not remove the light like they were told. There was no communication about when they were going to work. They just showed up whenever. They rutted up my lawn and got plaster all over my new fence. Said they were coming back to take care of it but never did. Never came to do start up or show me how to maintain the new pool. I had to call another pool service to take care of that. They left a 2 inch gap between my coping and concrete decking and said it would be another $1200 to fill it. I'm very dissatisfied with pools by Murphy. Our finished product is an absolute 5 stars. Our weather, property issue and other unforeseen issues extended our timeline and we had to make adjustments along the way however after reading past reviews most people are blaming those circumstances on the Pools by Murphy. COMPLETELY UNJUST and IMMATURE to be blunt, construction is dirty, sweaty, and painstaking work; you make messes and stuff goes wrong... but its part of the journey to the final product. I cant speak to all, but my yard is certainly not a factory conditioned area to limit production breaks due to a perfect environment. These guys came in and worked in the rain to try to keep my timeline as close to as promised. They may not be miracle workers (which sounds like more than a few expect) but they do a damn good job and I couldn't be happier with what we got in return for our hard earned money. The price we payed was more than fair for the gorgeous outcome. Maybe I see things different but hopefully like minded people can use an actual review that will actually help them pick a great company to work with instead of reading someones poor writing of a whiny attempt TV drama pitch. 10th of July still no pool, numerous safety issues, created a disaster, and now have to pursue resolution with attorney. If you have $200,000 to spend they MAY make you happy....if you simply want the package they advertise on their website with a few minor upgrades like salt water or heater, you can be assured you will not be a priority, their work at my residence even to the novice eye is unsafe and poorly executed. read more

I have nothing but good experiences with Pools by Murphy. I met with the sales person and the owner of this company after having a dreadful experience the previous 19 years with another pool contractor from the Thomaston area. The sales team helped to design and create a fabulous pool. It was built exactly as we agreed. Pools by Murphy missed the deadline for water by only one week, but who could blame them. We had dreadful weather. It rained almost everyday for 2 weeks. Now 6 years later, the magic still hasn't worn off. The service has been great and the opening and closings have gone without a hitch. This company has repeatedly disappointed. Their 'Lifetime" warranty means nothing. My pool is stained, the pavers are sinking and the rebar that was protruding from the spa is still leaving rust stains around the wall of the spa. They closed the pool without scale and when it was reopened, the scale was rampant. The kids toes bleed from it. Pools by Murphy has sent Frank, an owner, who promised to fix the pavers and re-plaster the pool, but Frank has done nothing since coming here in April. Please do not use this company. The customer service at this company is by far the WORST I have ever experienced in my life.Three general contractors have been assigned to our job since September 2014. Two of them were fired and the third doesn't care about his job or his customers. It is impossible to get a straight answer or return phone call from anyone and they never show up to complete the job on the days they say they will. They hauled away loads of dirt that we needed to level the ground surrounding the pool area, retaining walls and patio. Now we have to pay an outside contractor to come and complete this part of the job because they won't come back. We were told by Joanne, an owner of the company, that she had more important jobs then ours and that we needed to stop complaining. Our retaining walls are washing away with every rain storm that comes through, our pool light is not flush with the side of the pool, the list goes on and on. They left our yard a total disaster, including dumping the left over plaster in the woods surrounding our house. It is now a huge bug collector as it fills with water after every rain storm. i have never seen a company that was only interested in getting a contract signed and a down payment. these people can't get their information strait, you can't get them to finish a job, you have to run after them to complete the work. the owner, don't even waist your time talking with them. they don't care taking well over a year to complete the job and never call back when you leave a message. you order items for the pool and them tell you weeks later that it is not available after telling you it will be installed next week. regret using them for the pool. dont waist your time and if you make a contract add in a fee for every week they are late with the job. read more
