Pools By Murphy - General Contractors Near Me - Durham, Connecticut

Stay away from this pool company. If there is a problem with your pool, they never call you back. Terrible customer service. They don't stand behind their guarantee and it has been nothing but a headache since 2014. They had many opportunities to come repair the pool and they have never done anything about the issues. It was not worth the value because the pool self destructed and they wouldn't repair it. read more

Pools By Murphy LLC Don't trust a word they tell you! Received a contract from them for a 20x40 gunnite pool. Planned on going forward with the process. Received a phone call today from Kevin Murphy that there was a "typo" in the contract and the pool they quoted at $70,500 is really $108k! That's a $37,500 mistake & they won't make it right! Scumbags & crooks. read more

Pools By Murphy - a "typo" in the contract and the pool they quoted at $70,500 is really $108k! That's a $37,500 mistake & they won't make it right! - General Contractors Near Me - Durham, Connecticut

Poor service and workmanship. Over priced. Did a poor job plastering our pool, made a mess, broke things around pool area. Closed pool, broke pool jets and did not tell us. Found them during opening. read more

Pools by Murphy took two years to complete our pool and only did so after we threatened to hire a lawyer. The plaster failed in the first year and we need to have the pool plaster redone for tens of thousands of dollars. Pools by Murphy will not return calls or emails. Do yourself a favor and hire ANY other pool company other than this pack of thieves. read more

Responded quickly to calls and texts, workmanship was very good. Delivered on what they promised.

DO NOT USE POOLS BY MURPHY!!!! After one year our patio was unusable and Murphy came back with quick patch job and refused to address problem as the whole. After speaking with multiple patio contractors verdict was same poor construction incorrect compact materials used no pitch etc NOTHING ABOUG GHIS BUILD WAS CORRECT. STAY AWAY FTOM THIS COMPANY. Look them up on better businesses bureau site. We also found out later there multiple law suites filed against this company. read more

This business is sloppy, no attention to details and difficult to work with. I would never recommend this company, EVER! They made promises but did not deliver on any of them. Honestly wondering how they could still be in business. I did look up the lawsuits on the CT.JUD.GOV website and I was shocked at the number of legal complaints filed. For years and years... read more

This could possibly be one of the worst run companies in existence. The shotty craftsmanship of my pool has led to extensive problems. The pool cracked so bad it was literally rusting, it cost me thousands to get it right. Now the pool is cracked again and the tiles and grout are chipping off and falling into the pool. Time and time again they told me they would be out to warranty their work and never show up. I should clarify my pool is only a few years old as well. I have written correspondence with the company dating back to early June and it is lie after lie. I just had to retain an Attourney to take legal action against them, and according to my Attourney they have been sued a lot over the years. Please save yourself the time and $ and find a contractor that takes pride in their work and actually has morals. read more

We paid top dollar to Pools by Murphy to renovate our pool and build a new deck. They made a lot of promises during the sales process, but became abrasive, rude, and at one point physically threatening during construction. Every aspect of what they did needed to be repaired, and they only fixed a part of it, making promises to come back and fix the rest. After years of not getting service, we got a court settlement to pay a competent contractor to fix it. They still haven't paid that, claiming that they can't afford 10k. It's been 3 years, and they still haven't paid. Stay far, far away! read more

They have taken care of my pool for years and send periodic reminders for pool servicing needs. Nice company to work with and have been very reliable. read more

I am experiencing the same situation as Caroline T. Contracted date of completion June 12, 2013. It's July andxwe have a gunite shell. No one comes when they say and impossible to get a staight answer about anything. I am a teacher home for the summer with a 4 and 6-yr-old and I have a backyard that is unsafe and not usable. We can't set our swingset back up because there are dirt piles in the way. I wish more people would have written reviews. My advice to anyone currently dealing with them is to not pay them another penny until the pool is done! Awful! read more

Just moved into a new home and selected them for pool service. Pricey but they showed up for three weeks. The guys that showed up were nice. Then they failed to show for three straight weeks. I've got leaves all over my pool, cannot use it. I emailed them, no response. Called and left message, no response. Finally reached them after a week or more and it seems they decided to close pools and skip servicing with no notification. Also, I had asked them to repair my heater. I pre-paid for the parts ($600). Then they out of the blue decide to send back the parts. Nuts! Totally disorganized. The people in the office are really bad. Now I am stuck having to find someone else to clean my pool and close it for the winter. read more

Terrible terrible service. Pools by Murphy installed our pool - which is beautiful and that aspect of this company was fine. SERVICE is just terrible. If I could put no stars on this review I would. Impossible to speak with anyone directly - certainly understandable during covid but we've been dealing with it for years so it is not the pandemic that has changed our opinion. Even when scheduled, service techs don't always show up. Pool was opened by Murphy at the end of May and we still can't use it - and they haven't been out to fix or service. We have called repeatedly to no avail. GO ELSEWHERE. read more

DO NOT USE THIS HACK COMPANY!!! They will treat you differently after you pay them. Their customer service SUCKS!!! 1. They will ignore the timeline they agreed with you. You will be constantly on the phone and emailing them to start or complete the project. 2. Their quality of work is horrible. You will be left with MAJOR issues. 3. They will ignore your complaints. Not returning calls and/or emails. 4. They do not honor the contract. 5. If you lucky enough that they do return to address your issues, expect a quick cheap patch job that NEVER resolved the issue. 6. Do not fall for the "we take on full responsibility for leaks if we close your pool" their pool closing cost almost double then others. During closing their guy broke a deck jet and they refuse to fix it. 7. Too many broken promises, just to get rid of you for a couple more months or the following year. 8. TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWHERE!!!! read more

They build a nice pool but the customer service is horrible, they never call you back

Pools by Murphy is the worst run company I have ever worked with. Lie after lie. Horrendous finished product. No attention to detail. Most importantly, they do not back their warranty. Our pool has serious cracking and the gunite was not applied correctly, so that after one year, we already have significant cracking. We filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau that was ignored by the company. The owners were rude and tried to turn the issue around on us. He said that our complaints were "inconveniencing him". Please save yourself heartache and choose any other company. read more

RUN from this company! Horrible customer service, very difficult to work with and will cost you money with every interaction. They do not stand by their products or installations. Extremely short staffed, highly emotional employees that are not solutions oriented (just complainers) and will make your pool experience a nighmare. There are so many reputable pool companies out there so do yourself a favor and find another company. Many times we had asked for a call from one of the owner's, but it just fell on deaf ears as they will take your money, but don't have the decency to address your concerns. Plain and simple - they suck! read more

The staff at Pools by Murphy has been fantastic. Our pool needed significant amount of help to reopen in 2020 and their crew did an amazing job to help us enjoy while quarantined. Great company and great people- highly recommended. read more

Worst company ever! They said it would take 6 to 8 weeks to build a pool. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I should have asked if the 6 to 8 weeks would be consecutive. 13 months (yes.....that's 56 weeks) later I am still waiting on a finished product. read more

The best part of summer is enjoying our Murphy pool with our family. The Murphy crew that opened our pool this summer was the best! We were able to swim in our pool the next day! They took pictures of all our equipment, in case we had an unexpected problem during the season. If we did, they would be able to easily identify the manufacturer and order replacement parts. read more

Within one year, the concrete at the bottom of my pool discolored badly. Reported this on three occasions and no returned calls despite saying they would call me. The service department is even WORSE then lie infest sales area. What a terrible company! Took 9 months to put in my pool in and it was a comedy of errors. I would never recommend this company to anyone. read more

Pools by Murphy resurfaced our 20+yr old gunite pool last season and not only does it look fantastic it's never run better. Their service department has also been nothing but reliable and a total pleasure with which to work. Highly recommended! read more

WORST!!! I signed up over 3 years ago!!! Still NO Use of Pool - pool is out of compliancel!! 1st year to build pool! 2nd year, the gas company would NOT hook-up gas lines - as Murphy created a fire hazard with heater! 3rd Year, the Town Zoning banished the Pool - as it was 8 inched too close to neighbors - another 6 months to fix. Over 1 year and NO Pool Cover (claim problems with suppliers). Murphy Pools IS A Disaster!!! read more

we just had your pool finished by Pools by Murphy. We are very please . As you know we had a rough Spring. Our due was pushed a little ahead. Overall the quality and post construction crew were excellent. Support staff and customer service very responsive to our call. I would recommend this company to anyone who is looking for a cost effective quality pool. They build a fine pool. One recommnedaton is that if you are looking to get the pool in by Memorial Day weekend, start your construction in the fall. Mike and Olga C Trumbull CT read more

4 years ago when Pools By Murphy installed the pool I did have some delays but I was really happy with the finished product. I recently used them to install a salt system and a few other things. They have been extremely responsive and reasonably priced. I'm really happy we stuck with them. It seems whatever issues they had in the past have been resolved. At the end of the day we got a beautiful pool for a great price and great service! Thanks, The Lalla's read more

Love our pool!! This is our 10th year and our pool is in great shape. We get tons of compliments, and it's definitely the best part of our house! We use them every year to open and close the pool. I wouldn't trust anyone else with the service calls. read more

Wasn't sure if I could give no stars, because if I could, I would. My experience with this company has been nothing short of a nightmare. When they installed the pool, they put the equipment in the wrong place, then wanted to charge more to move it. They used the wrong color on the decking. They have ruined my materials when closing and opening the pool. NOW the $47,000 pool that has a lifetime warranty, has a crack and the tiles are cracking and they want to blame it on Mother Nature and CHARGE me to fix it. Not only that, they are extremely rude and never return calls. read more

I have continued to use Pools By Murphy since they installed my pool. Very happy and pleased with their caring service

I would give 0 if I could. The project was supposed to take 5 days. It took 5 weeks. They did not remove the light like they were told. There was no communication about when they were going to work. They just showed up whenever. They rutted up my lawn and got plaster all over my new fence. Said they were coming back to take care of it but never did. Never came to do start up or show me how to maintain the new pool. I had to call another pool service to take care of that. They left a 2 inch gap between my coping and concrete decking and said it would be another $1200 to fill it. I'm very dissatisfied with pools by Murphy. I will NEVER recommend them to anyone read more

10th of July still no pool, numerous safety issues, created a disaster, and now have to pursue resolution with attorney. If you have $200,000 to spend they MAY make you happy....if you simply want the package they advertise on their website with a few minor upgrades like salt water or heater, you can be assured you will not be a priority, their work at my residence even to the novice eye is unsafe and poorly executed. read more

Our finished product is an absolute 5 stars. Our weather, property issue and other unforeseen issues extended our timeline and we had to make adjustments along the way however after reading past reviews most people are blaming those circumstances on the Pools by Murphy. COMPLETELY UNJUST and IMMATURE to be blunt, construction is dirty, sweaty, and painstaking work; you make messes and stuff goes wrong... but its part of the journey to the final product. I cant speak to all, but my yard is certainly not a factory conditioned area to limit production breaks due to a perfect environment. These guys came in and worked in the rain to try to keep my timeline as close to as promised. They may not be miracle workers (which sounds like more than a few expect) but they do a damn good job and I couldn't be happier with what we got in return for our hard earned money. The price we payed was more than fair for the gorgeous outcome. Maybe I see things different but hopefully like minded people can use an actual review that will actually help them pick a great company to work with instead of reading someones poor writing of a whiny attempt TV drama pitch. Please grow up people, and please keep building these amazing pools for others to enjoy Pools by Murphy! Thank you for everything read more

The absolutely worst customer service ever. Once the pool is in, forget about getting any type of response to any question or concern. The cement around the edges of my pool is falling off in chunks and I can't even get them to return a call! Awful!!! I would not recommend hiring them to install a pool at all. They simply don't care what customers think or how they respond. read more

I have nothing but good experiences with Pools by Murphy. I met with the sales person and the owner of this company after having a dreadful experience the previous 19 years with another pool contractor from the Thomaston area. The sales team helped to design and create a fabulous pool. It was built exactly as we agreed. Pools by Murphy missed the deadline for water by only one week, but who could blame them. We had dreadful weather. It rained almost everyday for 2 weeks. Now 6 years later, the magic still hasn't worn off. The service has been great and the opening and closings have gone without a hitch. We swim the day after we open. They met or exceeded our expectations!!! JS read more

This company has repeatedly disappointed. Their 'Lifetime" warranty means nothing. My pool is stained, the pavers are sinking and the rebar that was protruding from the spa is still leaving rust stains around the wall of the spa. They closed the pool without scale and when it was reopened, the scale was rampant. The kids toes bleed from it. Pools by Murphy has sent Frank, an owner, who promised to fix the pavers and re-plaster the pool, but Frank has done nothing since coming here in April. Please do not use this company. I would give them a minus star if possible. I CAN'T BELIEVE JEFFREY S. HAD A GOOD EXPERIENCE. HE MAY BE THE ONLY ONE. read more

The customer service at this company is by far the WORST I have ever experienced in my life.Three general contractors have been assigned to our job since September 2014. Two of them were fired and the third doesn't care about his job or his customers. It is impossible to get a straight answer or return phone call from anyone and they never show up to complete the job on the days they say they will. They hauled away loads of dirt that we needed to level the ground surrounding the pool area, retaining walls and patio. Now we have to pay an outside contractor to come and complete this part of the job because they won't come back. We were told by Joanne, an owner of the company, that she had more important jobs then ours and that we needed to stop complaining. Our retaining walls are washing away with every rain storm that comes through, our pool light is not flush with the side of the pool, the list goes on and on. They left our yard a total disaster, including dumping the left over plaster in the woods surrounding our house. It is now a huge bug collector as it fills with water after every rain storm. We would not recommend this company to anyone. read more

i have never seen a company that was only interested in getting a contract signed and a down payment. these people can't get their information strait, you can't get them to finish a job, you have to run after them to complete the work. the owner, don't even waist your time talking with them. they don't care taking well over a year to complete the job and never call back when you leave a message. you order items for the pool and them tell you weeks later that it is not available after telling you it will be installed next week. regret using them for the pool. dont waist your time and if you make a contract add in a fee for every week they are late with the job. read more
