For a while this place was working out for me and my pet. I would brush my dog and then get that I wasn't doing it well enough, still my dog wasn't matted. This worked for about a year. Last time, Jay said he would do a bath and brush and for me to bring my dog. I called for two weeks straight without a response. He just never replied. I'll find a new place but it sucks cause now I have to find her a new groomer! read more

Poodle Nook - Before the haircut - Pet Groomers Near Me - Citrus Heights, California

Warning to Pet Owners: Our Dogs Were Harmed at This Grooming Salon This is only the second review I've ever written, but after what happened to our dogs, I feel morally obligated to speak out. If you love your pets, please take this seriously. About 8-9 months ago, my husband and I moved to Citrus Heights and brought home a toy poodle named Casper. Later, we welcomed our black lab, Luke. Casper is the heart of our home -- playful, affectionate, and full of life. Because toy poodles need regular grooming due to their curly, sensitive coats, we found Poodle Nook, which appeared reputable and specialized in poodles. Jay, the groomer, seemed professional at first. We brought both dogs in about four times each, always providing clear instructions and photos of how we wanted them groomed. Three days ago, we dropped them off for their usual appointments. What we got back was heartbreaking and disturbing. Casper came home with: A large gash on his nose Cuts between his thighs A cut on his penis His testicles were severely red, swollen, and inflamed His underbelly was extremely red and irritated He began refusing to walk on his back legs, would not urinate or defecate, and cried constantly Luke, our lab, had: A large chunk of hair missing from his tail A visible wound on the side of his neck, exposing raw skin These injuries were horrifying and completely unprecedented. We called our vet the next day and explained what happened. Over the phone, they advised us to go to PetSmart and purchase a medicated cream to apply to Casper's affected areas and to get a cone to prevent him from licking his wounds. We've followed all of their instructions closely while monitoring him round the clock, but unfortunately, his condition has only worsened. When we contacted Jay at the salon, he casually blamed a "new razor" and dismissed the injuries as razor burn. He showed no sympathy, offered no refund, and made a sarcastic remark: "It's not like Casper's legs are broken." When my husband followed up, Jay lied and claimed Luke was "going bald," which is completely false. We take before-and-after photos of our dogs with every visit, and Luke had no such issue before entering the salon. This was clearly an attempt to deflect responsibility. Jay also tried to blame Casper for licking his wounds, even though we had already been using a cone, applying the vet-recommended cream, and watching him closely. He took no responsibility, told us to deal with his insurance, and has repeatedly refused to provide any contact information for that insurance. This morning -- three days after the grooming -- I discovered cuts near Casper's anus, which likely explain why he still refuses to use the restroom. His condition has worsened daily. We have an emergency vet appointment at 4:30 PM today. When I reached out again today to ask for a refund, explaining that we were completely unprepared for a vet bill and the emotional toll this has taken, the salon refused, stating that they would not issue any refund because "they did perform the haircut" -- despite the injuries and the fact that the grooming did not match the style we requested. In that same message, they also told us that they no longer want any further communication from us and that we should deal with their insurance directly -- again, without giving us any actual insurance contact information, despite multiple requests. We paid over $225 expecting professional grooming, safety, and care. Instead, we were met with dishonesty, negligence, and trauma. Even when past appointments didn't match the haircut we asked for, we kept returning because we believed, above all, that our dogs were safe. That trust has now been completely shattered. Our dogs can't speak for themselves -- so we must. Please take this review seriously. I will be sharing photos and our full communication with the salon to document everything. What happened to Casper and Luke is inexcusable. No pet -- and no family -- should ever go through this. read more

I've been going to this place for over 20 years and I've been very very happy. I was sad to see that they sold it kept the name but new owner and new workers although they're very kind and very nice and my dog did not turn out so well it looks like a hacked job, I have a poodle not happy with this place at all and on top of that he has been treated for respiratory infection so I would be careful taking your animals in here. Not sure there is experienced as they say they are. I'm really disappointed and sad. I have been so happy here for so long. Now I'm gonna have to find a new place. read more

Under its previous ownership, I was a satisfied customer of the Poodle Nook. I've been taking my dog here for the past 14 years. Today was my last day. Since the new owner took over in 2023, the quality of service and customer care has significantly declined. Despite paying $65 in 2023, I was told that the price would increase to $75 today. The new owner's focus on profit over customer satisfaction is evident, and I advise pet owners to seek alternative options, such as PetSmart, which offers comparable grooming services for $55. read more

Haley is the best! I have taken my mini schnauzer and pitbull to her and they both love her!

We saw Jay today and he was friendly, professional and very personable with my dog. He did a fantastic job trimming her overgrown nails and offered her cheeze whiz as a reward for good behavior. Delilah loved him and so do I! The shop has been remodeled and looks so fresh and clean. Very happy with our visit today. Thank you Jay! See you in four weeks:) read more

After going here for nearly 6 months - I can tell you that the new owner has done his best to get the right groomers and re-establish Poodle Nook with his own flair. I have been experiencing the improvements. The waiting room is now updated and new groomers are there to tailor to special requests. Our puppies have grown and so has their grooming needs and Poodle Nook has been very patient with our requests and our puppies. In addition, wait times have decreased a lot as they have adjusted their schedules. Give this place a try before you read the reviews of folks unhappy with change. read more

I brought my dog (Rachel) in for a good grooming and nail trim. She's an older border collie with old hip, they took wonderful care of her!!! Absolutely do not bring your pet here. They do not care about the well being of animals. They will keep your pet all day without a bathroom or food break and they lie about their price quotes. Businesses like this should be shut down. read more

DO NOT BRING YOUR DOG HERE. I brought my dog into Poodle Nook at 11 am. The owner told me that it would take about 3-4 hours to complete my dogs haircut. After several hours I called to request an expedited haircut because I was concerned about my dog being there for so long. I believe the owner told me the expedited price would be an additional $15 dollars. They finished my dogs haircut 30 mins before closing hours. When I picked her up I was mortified. Not only was her haircut TERRIBLE (choppy, uneven, not blended) but when she was given to me she immediately peed while I was holding her because the owner Jay did not take her to the restroom the ENTIRE day. The owner then proceeded to charge me $50 dollars for the "expedited" haircut plus the cost of the services, which I paid for even though I believe the price was not accurately reflected to me. Not only was I lied to about the price, but they finished the services at the end of the day which is obviously not expedited. There was also another customer who dropped off their dog at 9:30am and was not given their dog until the end of the day. The other dog was visibly uncomfortable and crying and the other dog owner was upset by this. When I confronted the owner about the extra charge, the terrible haircut, and the fact that my dog had been there all day without using the restroom he stated "we're short staffed" and then proceeded to blame me for the other dog being there all day because I requested the expedited service in front of the owners of the other dog who were also concerned about the well-being of their dog. It's absolutely unacceptable for this business not to care about the well being of the animals that are under their care. I will be reporting this business to the Better Business Bureau. I hope the owner sees this message and knows that it is unacceptable to treat animals like this and to lack responsibility as an owner and blame being "short staffed" as an excuse for his mismanagement to the detriment of the animals. PS I called at 3pm on the dot asking if my dog was done, and they had told me she only had her nails and ears cleaned. As a pet owner, my anxiety went through the roof because I realized she was in a cage all day. read more

Wow, what happened? Janice and Rachel must have sold the business. Had an appointment this morning and walked into a disaster of a partially remodeled practically empty room with an overwhelming odor of paint. A mess of cardboard and a plastic drop cloth in the corner. Two young people looking confused handing out clipboards for you to fill out your pets information. There were 4 or 6 cages in the back corner and a sink, that's it! When I scheduled the appointment 2 weeks ago, the girl should have informed me that it was under new ownership. I have had horrible experiences with other close by groomers injuring my dog's eye and costing a small fortune with vet bills. The original owners were awesome and did a great job. I felt comfortable leaving my pet with them. Not here! I walked out with my pet and will now have to find another groomer. It just really had that temporary set up and very sketchy look to the place. read more

Bailey (our 11 year old Yorkie) has been going to the Poodle Nook for years. Janice & Rachael are the best. They are true dog lovers. They are very professional yet are relaxed and extremely friendly. Bailey always comes out looking like a little doll. I get compliments on his grooming all the time. People stop us and ask, "Who's your groomer?". Bailey is one of those Yorkies that hates to have his face touched! But wait, you're a Yorkie, you need your face groomed. He always comes out with his face cut the way I want it, and I'm asked, "how is it, do I need to touch it up more?". Besides grooming, both of these ladies rescue & re-home dogs all the time. They even will board for you if needed. Like I said they are true dog lovers. They really care, and don't hold back the love. Many in our neighborhood use the Poodle Nook as their only groomers. I would highly recommend using them. read more

This is easily the worst grooming experience I've ever had. I paid 65 dollars for my dog to come home unbathed, cut unevenly, with a new rash on her tummy and in her ears, and a chunk of her skin missing on her left rear leg. So why was my dog there from 12:30 til 4:30? She hasn't stopped itching or whining from the pain since we got home. I call to explain why I'm unhappy and I get greeted with a terrible attitude and no refund options so then I had to take my poor baby back for them to try to "rectify" it, and hope to god they didnt make it worse. I get in there, and Janice is already hostile upon arrival and claims I don't take care of my dog, and that's why she looks this way, which is completely ignorant. At this point I didnt want her to touch my dog again, so i asked again, for a refund. She yelled at me, cursed, and asked me "if I go to all the grooming shops around here and do this" which is funny to me, because out of the 10 years I've had my dog, I've never had a bad experience til now. She then claimed she would only give me have of my refund because she still did me a service. After arguing for 20 minutes, I finally got my refund (She decided to keep the 10$ tip) I highly recommend turning around and running for the hills if you're thinking on coming here to these ladies. Uneducated, terrible attitudes, terrible service, and now I will have to take my dog to the vet for these serious rashes and what could be an ear hematoma. Someone needs to shut this hole in the wall down, because this is just not acceptable. Bad service is one thing, but for my dog to physically suffer? That's a no no. read more
