Came here this morning for my breakfast on my way to Olympia. Quite a few people in here at 6 AM. I ordered an omelette and coffee. My waitress kept an eye on my table and made sure that both my water and my coffee were kept filled at all times. The omelette was delicious and very filling. Very clean inside and out. The management is 100% sexist. Let me share the good, the bad, and the ugly I experienced: The good: - I went in for breakfast on a Sunday with a friend and enjoyed the food, the ambiance, and our server. So, when I noticed a job posting for a "server/bartender" on indeed, I thought about applying for a part-time position. From what I can gather from the employees I talked to, management does have their back and does a lot to support their restaurant, which is fantastic to hear, but of course there's always another side to the coin.... The bad: - One of the first things out of the manager's mouth in my initial interview was "Men aren't good servers and typically you need to work twice as hard to impress me..." and went on about how I was going to be extra scrutinized, which is 100% absolutely illegal and discrimination based on sex/gender. It was appalling to hear, especially when some of my greatest mentors in hospitality have been men. I get that this place is a diner, and many of their clientele are older and might be used to that, but that's no excuse to be sexist and break the law. The ugly: - Well, I came in for a final interview and was clearly setup to fail as the interviewee told me they had no questions for me. It seems they wanted her to "feel" out people, but all that serves to do is make people nervous, as people aren't sure what to say and it's natural to fill in the empty space, which doesn't set up anyone to be laid back and relaxed. On my way out, I looked around and noticed that every single server was a women. Yes, as soon as I got back home, I got a message saying they picked another candidate. All I can say is that I hope "her" and Poodle Dog the best. Lastly, if you're a man and looking for a "server" position, don't even waste your time with this place because they are blatantly biased and have no problem saying so, despite that being completely against the law. That said, don't worry about it if that's also you, because you likely wouldn't want to work for people like this anyways (as it would only be a matter of time before they unfairly judged you, etc.) read more

Food: the biscuits and gravy and hashbrowns were the stars of the show. My husband said the coffee was good. Food was served room temperature, which was disappointing. Service: friendly and a bit slow, thanks to our server's tendency to chat with another server rather than do her job. Perhaps that's why our food was on the cool side. Ambiance: booths were comfortable and the creations were cleaned. The music was way too loud. Someone was out on the roof pounding in it in order to fix a leak. Greeted and seated immediately upon coming in the front door. Server came right over and received my coffee quickly. Creamer on the table already. Restaurant was clean and busy with people but my server returned quickly to take my order after I was given my coffee. Decided on the veggie skillet, ordered side of avacado. Before my food arrived the server checked on me and my coffee situation like 3 times. I appreciate this because when you spend $4-5 for coffee you want more than one cup. Food came quickly for how busy they were. It was so delicious and loved how full of yummy fresh vegetables, onion, peppers, mushrooms, zucchini, chopped green onion, spinach. I loved the sliced avacado. Very fair priced as a side $2.00. I was hungry and ate almost all of my food. I had whole wheat bread they gave me freezer jam for my toast. After driving past Poodle Dog a gazillion times over the decades (open since 1933!), then didn't allow enough time on 4/27/26, finally third time's the charm on 6/11/26 as a detour before heading down south to Ridgefield, WA! Easy access to/from I-5, plentiful parking, and seated immediately at a booth by an upbeat wait person. Music from the 1970s & 1980s playing, so this GenXer was pleased. Given pint glasses of ice water, declined coffee service, and gave a quick look of the menu, great selection for breakfast/brunch/lunch crowd. The Homie and I decided to split the Corned Beef Hash, which also came with 3 overeasy eggs, hash browns, and a buttermilk biscuit smothered with sausage gravy. Happy to receive an extra plate with no upcharge. This was perfect to whet the appetite, but not bog us down and go into a food coma while back on the road. Food came out relatively fast, fresh and piping hot! Generous serving and tasty food all around. We also able to receive and pay our check in good time, despite all the tables our waitperson was covering. We paused before heading out to stare at their merch and the baked goods. Always good food but today's (1/2/26) lunch service was not great. I can't count on both hands how many times the server walked by our table and said nothing. We actually had to not only close the menu but put them at the end of the table and still it took her 4-5 more walk by's to ask what we wanted. Not great service and other times we have had good service. Once the food came (delivered by another server) our server never showed back up, she walked by the table multiple times and stopped by other tables and chatted with them quite often but ours, nope. Like pulled out of a time capsule from the 1950's, the poodle dog has been an institution in Fife for almost a century. I grew up in Tacoma and I'm surprised I haven't eaten here more since we moved here in the late 80's. The prices have gone up but what restaurant hasn't had to raise prices in this current economy with current administration. Yeah it sucks but we need to support our local businesses or they will all disappear. We stopped in around 1130 and it was super busy. We got seated quickly and our server took our order right away. She was friendly and attentive. Food was your standard diner fare, we had the chicken fried steak and landmark platter. Large portions. The gravy was just okay and eggs were on the harder side than what I prefer. Bill came out to around $50 with drinks. Loved the nostalgic vibe and hope to be back soon. read more

This is a good restaurant. The HORDES of people showing up on a Sunday could NOT be wrong. It really IS a good restaurant with delicious food. Unfortunately, our particular waitress was not feeling the vibe. It's a cool diner that's been open forever, with a giant menu, and to me, it should have that (and mostly does) cozy, homey, folksy, route 66 vibe. TBH, it didn't have it as much as I had expected, which is FINE, but the waitress DEF was not feeling much of anything. She was slow, she never asked us if we liked the food, if we needed anything (besides coffee which actually she just poured w/o asking until I moved the cup out of arm's reach), never asked if we wanted anything else (we did - we had to ask for the dessert menu ourselves), and so on. She wasn't mean or anything. She was just kind of phoning it in. The folks at the door were very cheerful and could give some lessons to the person that served us. As for the food, everything we got was delicious. We tried some unusual lunch items, a milkshake, and dessert, and all were top notch. The restaurant is fairly large, and even with the constant arrival of patrons they got everyone seated quickly. There is also a semi-separate lounge section on the other end. Didn't take long to have our orders taken nor get our food. The strawberry French toast looked like a breakfast lovers masterpiece. I have had my wish granted! I finally had a breakfast at the Poodle Dog! It was a late anniversary gift from my husband. This breakfast was fit for a princess. The Pancakes were dinner plate sizes. I had to share my breakfast. I did split it into breakfast and lunch. I was still able to share it with my husband and son. The fruit and whip was plenty for all pancakes. The eggs were so good! And everything was packaged so nice. It felt like room service. Poodle Dog: I thank you for your service! You will be getting a visit from me in person soon! I love breakfast at different times of day and it is a place that I will keep in mind when I crave breakfast for dinner! As I am writing this review, I am finishing up the pancakes for lunch. On the weekends it can get noticeably busy after 9am, so I highly suggest coming early if you have a ground larger than 4, since most of their seating is 4 person booth style! I used to work nearby the Poodle Dog and regularly had lunch there. After retirement, those visits ended. But I missed the Dog and being in the area on an early Sunday meant a stop. Loaded, crunchy bacon, fresh everything, and stacked high. We also grabbed the French toast--thick-cut and buttery with just the right amount of syrup soak. Was greeted warmly and seated quickly. Settled on the Landmark Breakfast as it gave a decent variety. Was served quickly and it looked picture perfect. Lots of food. Thick bacon was flavorful. Golden hash browns. Fluffy eggs. All was cooked well. I brought the ham and half of the rest home. I thought the pup room might be for kids but it is an AM & PM happy hour bar. Happy and friendly and fast Delivery of our food and perfect every time. Had their special chorizo Benedict for the second time and it's just as good as the first. We have been here several times after taking our vehicle to a local car dealer for service. With the exception of one time the service here has always been great! The food is what you'd expect, reasonable prices and very reasonable portions. They have a bar, good strong drinks and beer on tap. This is now our go to stop when we take our vehicle for service. Wow, this place has jacked up prices and not improved much of anything. For context, we've been coming here once or twice a month for breakfast and have generally enjoyed our experience and food for the past year or so. And I went there as a kid. Fast forward to a few minutes ago. Not only was each entree that we ordered for breakfast just shy of $20, but they now tack on a 3%+ service charge for credit cards. Then, the coup de grace, they have the audacity to charge SIX DOLLARS for a biscuit that is no bigger than 2" high and 3" in diameter. Our server claimed "tariffs" as the cause, but the tariff implications aren't here yet, this is straight up money gouging like they got bought by a VC. Legit never going back, which sucks because the food is good. Screw them.
