One of Pooch Hotel's angels in action, hand feeding dinner to our fussy eater.

Like its "people hotel" counterparts, I firmly believe that an establishment of this sort can only be as good as the team it employs to run and deliver its services. And let me say without hesitation, the Norwalk team at Pooch Hotel is out of this world -- teeming with talent, compassion and a palpable sense of true love for the 4-legged friends they serve. From start to finish, we enjoyed top-notch hospitality, friendly and attentive customer service, and better quality care and than we have at most two-legged hotels! Their "puppy cam" monitoring capabilities give nervous pup-parents like us peace of mind through a bit of nosy surveillance. Every time we watched Shea, our 7 year old bichon, either in his room or at play, we witnessed angels at work. Perhaps most touching was watching our admittedly fussy eater at meal time - when a staff member saw Shea having trouble with his dinner, we watched as he proceeded to sit down in his room beside him and hand feed Shea his entire meal. We were so touched by his and everyone's genuine commitment to a true "pup-centered" approach! We are so grateful to have the Pooch Hotel in our backyard. Until now, being a pet owner has admittedly kept us back from traveling, but we won't hesitate to check in again next time we want to get away!

The decor is pretty cool.

Very friendly staff and clean facility. Play time is monitored by staff member in with the dogs who cleans up after them immediately. They separate the dogs for play time according to size and temperament. When I go in the staff knows the dogs by name and they clearly form a bond with each dog. Basically, they are dog people and play with the pets. They check behavior and won't put aggressive dogs into the play area when they are aware of it. I think they observe each new dog first. All the dogs I've seen coming and going are happy so that says something about how comfortable they are in that setting. Best part is it's right at the train station! Drop off and catch the train and pick up after work for doggie daycare. Perfect! They train, groom, daycare and board.

My husband and I both commute into the city and Kate is so on top of the scheduling and responsive to our needs. When we had an emergency and couldn't get home she was over at our house within an hour. When our dog got a cut on her foot while playing Kate took her to the vet, got her medicine and even footed the bill despite my trying to cover it. She also runs the business like a true business and makes invoicing a breeze. Words can't describe the peace of mind it gives me having sound pups in our neighborhood!

With that said, I have absolutely no reservations about using Sound Pups. We have family in Norwalk and we visit frequently; we've needed someone to walk Molly while we're out and about with the fam. As soon as we did a meet and greet with Kate, I knew Sound Pups was the walking company for us. I expressed all of my anxieties and Kate confidently addressed each one. She understood my concerns and I walked away feeling COMPLETELY confident. I also have to admit, that doesn't happen often. When we're in Connecticut, I entrust Sound Pups to take care of Molly so we can enjoy our time with the family. A++, absolutely recommended. Thank you, Kate!!

Ive unfortunately had to change my rating of a Cats Place after being a loyal customer for 7+…read moreyears. I've seen a shift in the way the place is staffed - the new staff seemed to care less and less. I've ignored signs (being that I myself work at an animal hospital - the burnout is real) but the fact that clients pay you to take care of their fur babies is a service you commit to provide. My boarding experience earlier this year- I noted that medication for my sick asthmatic cat was not given by the staff due to the fact that he "looked stressed". It would have been okay since they take your phone number in case of an emergency and promise to call if anything comes up. Instead I took him home, coughing and wheezing after 4-5 days away to look at the inhaler count to see it hadn't moved. I wasn't notified at pickup and had to call them to find out why. The funny thing is all the times we have used them to board, he could come back sick and we always used to think it was a change of environment. When I complained Jessica (management) was really great and compassionate and apologized essentially for the mishap and informed me that they will have protocols in place to tell owners when things like this happen. That's great, right? Except that it shouldn't take a mistake to have that plan in place. That should be the FIRST thing you do. I ended up having him admitted in another facility for 3+ days in Emergency until he was back to normal. All in all, it's a clean facility with only cats which is a major plus. However, I don't think we will be returning anymore. For those of you who board your pets, make sure that meds are being done when they are supposed to be done whether it be marking the bottle or noting the counts.

To add insult to injury, they threatened to call the police on my fiancé after she called 4 times begging for the vet to call us back or put in a prescription before closing time. I would not recommend my worst enemies bring their cats here. All they care about is taking your money, of which they managed to extract thousands from us, but when it comes to the actual care of your animals they could not care less. After being told we were no longer "a fit" at this vet, we made the decision to bring our cat to the local emergency vet for a second opinion. Lo and behold, she was diagnosed with feline leukemia, which she was also likely suffering from the last THREE TIMES we brought her to A Cat's Place since last April for the same symptoms, where the vet insisted on several occasions that our cats diarrhea and low grade fever were due to stress. Unbelievable. Who licensed these people to practice medicine on animals?
