Went here with some coworkers. The restaurant is very good and seemed pretty busy, service was a little slow but I did realize they were busy. Our server was very nice and helpful. I thought the booths were a little small and tight fit. I got a strawberry margarita blended and it was really tasty. I then ordered the Mexican street corn bowl which was fantastic!!! It was so much food. It tasted fresh and the chicken was perfect. You get free chips and salsa. The salsa was really good but I wasn't a fan of the chips. My coworkers loved the chips however. We all had a good time and enjoyed our meals. A lot of food! read more

Cozy atmosphere. Eclectic playlist, mostly classic rock. About what i expect from what i call "Yankee Mexican food" places. (As a native Texan, i cut my teeth on Mexican and Tex-Mex food and am therefore a bit picky.) Friendly, attentive servers, clean bathrooms every time I've been there. As for the food, some of the dishes are better than others. That said, i highly recommend the barbacoa, it's absolutely delicious! Whatever you order, if it has a barbacoa option, definitely give it a try. You won't be sorry! read more

We were First Timers at this place having typically had Mexican at El Tequila. Our server was Kari who was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. The food was another story and I'd call it "non-traditional" (see photo). Their version was HUGE but it lacked the flavors and mix of warm veggies/meat that makes up a Fajita Salad. Too bad as we were hopeful. For us, we'll likely not return and consider other options in the region. There must be better options. read more

A very nice and polite server, a real positive. Meal came out in a normal amount of time. Food was not good. Even for Tex Mex. Even for rural MN Tex Mex. The rice is super weird in taste and texture. Got the fajitas burrito. Came with a sauce that was terrible. I think it was the "sour cream sauce" but it was a sickening color of pink and was curdled. It was weirdly sweet with the sour of sour cream. Tasted like it was off. Chicken had a mushy texture. It's cheaper than the other Mexican place but probably don't go for anything beyond beer and nachos. read more

This could be very successful if only opened and lightened up. It def needs updating. That aside I found the mild salsa too bland and even reminded me of spaghetti sauce. They have a "hot" salsa which I liked better. The queso was okay and bland. I had the barbacoa burrito. It was very meaty. I should have asked for beans and rice inside. The frozen strawberry margarita was very good. Grandson had kids cheese enchilada which he really liked. Burrito was too salty for me. read more

The food here is decent, but service can be iffy. That about sums up this review. We arrived for a late dinner, and while waiting to be seated we could not help but overhear the two customers paying their bills on the way out. They received an apology from the staff for the quality of the meal, and a reminder that they should have said something about it sooner. We almost walked out. But the pangs of hunger had hit us pretty bad, so we decided to try out the place. The complimentary chips and salsa were very good. The salsa was awesome and the texture and consistency was great. We settled on splitting an order of sizzling carnitas fajitas and a side of the black beans. The fajitas arrived rather quickly and the carnitas were delicious. Cooked to perfection with the right amount of flavor and spice. We were almost done with the meal when we realized we did not receive our beans... The waitress apologized for this error. One star for the service (which was great). Took my folks here for lunch and just as every other reviewer said, "The food had no taste". Everything was smothered in shredded cheese and under that pile of cheese was food with zero flavor. Salsa - dull, chips - from a bag (not fresh), beans - straight from the Walmart great value shelf, rice - from the same brand can and mushy. We have been coming here for years and the quality has just been going down hill. Tonight our food was overcooked and dry with no flavor. One of the orders wasn't done the the way we asked and when we sent it back it came out wrong again, the server did the best she could but the kitchen needs to do better. When we got our bill we were charged for an item we didn't order then were charged extra for the meal that they still didn't get right the second time they tried. Nothing was taken off our bill nor a manager checking on us after the server was told rhe meal was wrong for the second time. I think this may just be the last time we try this place. read more

Walked in and got seated within 15 seconds air was cool and fresh. Sat down and ordered a raspberry lemonade it was kinda sweet but you could get a lot of different choices. The chips and salsa was just your everyday starter. Ordered a beef and been burrito for $10.99, and my God I got a 2lb burrito with beans and rice. All the food was hot and fully cooked. Great service with everyday Mexican restaurant interior and pretty clean. Overall a very good restaurant would eat here again. read more

If you want "authentic" Mexican food, DO NOT COME HERE... this place is far from it. Taco Bell would be a much better choice. Everything tasted fake and if you say you don't like it they only take 20% off your meal unlike other restaurants who would at least offer you another dish or make it free. The rice was not done and seemed from a box, the beef was coated in some powder seasoning from an off brand Walmart product, the tortillas were definitely not homemade, the chips were from a bag, salsa from an off brand jar, just all around terrible. Dont do it! Ate here with my wife on a Saturday late afternoon couple weeks ago. I had a pork dish and she had a shredded chicken dish. For my wife our $35 meal turned into two ER trips, with massive diarrhea. Some sort of food poisoning. Even though her test for salmonella came out negative, Dr said she definitely ate something tainted. You won't find authentic Mexican food here but, most of what I've ordered, I've liked. It has changed over the years and I admit that I miss the old atmosphere. (It had been a different "Mexican" restaurant in the '80s) Most everything on the menu seems to just be a different combination of of the same things with either verde or red sauce. Poncho Lefty's has a nice layout and a very friendly staff. Your meal starts with free chips and bland salsa but the water cups are large which is a plus. I wasn't aware ahead of time it was a tex-mex joint so I was not too excited by the menu but I found something decent, the taco burrito. It was pretty gross and I'm not sure it even constitutes Tex-Mex. The refried beans and rice that my 10$ burrito didn't come with (it was an extra dollar) were fucking gross and seemed at least a day old. I would never come here again and only because the food sucked. The establishment and staff were awesome though so if you like crappy pseudo Mexican come here. read more

Cute building. Looked and smelled good when we came in. Chips and salsa not authentic - kind of generic. Maybe they are Tostitos? Super nice waitress. Prices seem high and you pay extra for stuff you'd normally get included with your meal at a Mexican restaurant. On a quirky side note the water tastes great, which I find unusual at restaurants. Nice one time experience. Not sure I'd come again. read more

This place is great. Sometimes they can mess up their food but literally what restaurant hasn't. Don't believe the Karen's on here who say the food was tasteless or they will never come again. People just need an outlet to complain because they have nothing better to do with their lives. read more

Terrible fajitas, no flavor at all. They used to come with rice and beans but now you have to pay extra for that. Not sure that would even help. No chips and salsa either. Add in the lack of staffing and price increases that have been enforced, I'm sorry to say but the end is nigh for this place. Try the Mexican place down the road instead. read more

Stopped in for lunch, sat in a booth in the bar. Bartender/Waitress (one person) was covering all service and did a great job. Brought us a couple pints of our favorite draught beer (from Gull Dam Brewing), and a basket of chips & salsa. We were starving so the chips got devoured. I ordered a shrimp fajita burrito. We had a great experience from the minute we arrived. The hostess was outgoing and made sure we liked our table. Our waitress was attentive and filled our chips and drinks frequently. In another lifetime this place used to be called Tijuans. On Friday nights at Tijuan's mom would take us and we would eat a "Macho Nacho". Mom would have a marg. Apparently the term "macho nacho" in Spanish means "enormous mountain of chips, cheese, meat, guacamole, and sour cream. It was a great dive restaurant. Poncho's is still pretty dive, and they still have the Macho Nacho but lacks the character of sleazier and older Tijuans. Oh well, life goes on! If you order the Fajitas they will be loudly sizzling when brought out, just make sure you don't get burned! read more

We were looking for Mexican Food and decided to give this place a try (we are new to the area). We arrived at 5:30 on Saturday. The parking lot was already pretty full...thought that was a good sign. Turned out to not be a very good meal. We enjoyed the Chile relleno. The taco meat was greasy and mushy. The cheese/onion enchilada was bland. Salsa, too much tomato, it needs other flavors besides onions. Then there's our server, our booth was very close to the kitchen. I sat there quite a while with an empty tea glass. We were asked two minutes after our food arrived how we liked our meal...and not checked on again. We are very good tippers. If the problem is the kitchen but the service is great, 20% or more is always left. Tonight we left nothing. And we will not return!!! read more

While eating kept looking at the Taco Bell next door, craving their higher quality food. For starters, the salsa tasted like chopped tomatoes with a few onion pieces added, and a few dashes of chilli powder. It was so bad I had to add salt. The chicken fajitas were terrible! There was enough chicken for two tacos only. When I complained the response was the chicken was pre-portioned. Terrible answer if the portions amount to a half of a chicken breast. Oh yeah, it was bubbly with 2/3 green peppers some onion. Tasted more like a green pepper dish. They sat us in the back area where three little kids ran around like it was a Chucky Cheese. I had beef fajitas they were not to bad. Steak was tough. Sides that came with it were not good at all. The lettuce was turning brown the salsa was let's say not very good. Used to be good, now it's terrible. Margaritas are almost all sweet and sour mix, very little tequila (I order an extra shot and added it in to make it even decent). Chips and salsa taste like something purchased at a cheap grocery store and dumped in a bowl. Enchiladas were ok but nothing special. The craft beers are decent from local breweries so I give it one-star for at least that. read more
