We showed up earlier in the evening and they were not busy. As we got our appetizers and first courses everything was fine. We ordered the tuna (rare) and the tomahawk (medium rare) for the main course. The restaurant began to fill up. As we waited for our main course. Not a issue. As time passed my wife began to worry about our food as we had requested rare and mid-rare meals. As predicted by my lovely bride, the tuna was over cooked as well as the $105 tomahawk (borderline well-done). The tuna was tolerable, but the steak was well over cooked. Such a waste in a great piece of beef. We walked out less $250 in pocket for a less then memorizable meal. Service was good but I expected much better form a James Beard acclimated chef. Pompano Grill has become our favorite go-to restaurant for fresh seafood and house made pasta. We always support family owned and operated businesses and Pompano does not disappoint. The dishes are consistently well composed, and flavor packed. We shared the fresh Cobia, Carbonara, and several appetizers. The service is top notch and never rushed which appeals to social diners like us. The wine selection is one of the best in the area. It's truly a gem. We love their renovations and addition of outdoor seating. Covid safety is practiced with staff wearing masks. read more

My first time eating at Pompano grill was back in 2015. I went solo and enjoyed a very fine meal. My girlfriend and I were visiting Cocoa Beach at the end of June this year and I wanted to take her to the best restaurant that I knew of in the area. The only choice for me was Pompano grill. It was as expected. Amazing! One thing that I happened to do is forget an irreplaceable hat that I had bought on a trip to Mexico. After a few days passed I called and informed one of the staff members of my loss. We were on a road trip out of the area with no possible way of getting back there anytime within the next 4-5 months. However, the owner agreed to mail the hat to me for me covering the postage. Reservation was for 7:30 tonight, and upon arrival at 7:20 was told we could wait outside. At 7:45 no one from the restaurant had stepped outside to update us on the delay. However 4 people went in after we arrived and were immediately seated. We left. I called the restaurant to cancel my reservation and spoke to Jackie. I told her why I canceled and that upon my arrival there were multiple empty tables. Jackie told me that they were for other reservations. I asked why the 4 people after us were seated and was told they had a reservation for 4, and we were a party of 2. Hmm. Jackie, my advice is to you is read the book "Waymish". You can then ask yourself, "why did I make it so hard for this person to spend money at my restaurant". Tonight was my birthday, and I can promise you that I was ready to splurge on spirits and food. Unfortunately for you (Jack and this restaurant, we went to Heidelberg's in Cocoa and had a great meal and wonderful service. Think about that next time you take a reservation and tell someone you cannot seat them for another 20+ minutes after their reservation time. Heidelberg's will have my business in the future. Highly recommend especially if you like fresh fish! Everything is spectacular here.... they are known for their fresh fish but we had meat eaters, seafood lovers and vegans at our table and everything was delicious. Fantastic wine menu! We notified the chef in advance asking for vegan option and they did not disappoint! First thing to know is I don't take to writing bad reviews very lightly, and this may be a one off night for this family restaurant, by my experience was not at all good. To start with I had made a reservation for 7:30 PM. We arrived for our reservation about 10 minutes early. When we arrived we stated we had a reservation and were told we were early so to quote, " I would ask you to please wait outside." This was probably understandable because the place is very small, and it was very crowded. As this was our first, and as it turns out last experience with this place, we didn't know what to expect. So it was a bit cold out on this particular night, but we waited. During our 20 minute wait one couple after another went into this place and immediately sat down at empty tables. So I thought maybe they had forgotten about us, and as I went to check, they were coming to get us. We were seated at a table at the very back. They promptly filled our water glass, took our wine order, and that is the last we saw of them for awhile. We noticed that they seemed to be concentrating on the larger parties and after about 20 minutes they came and took our order, and delivered our wine. I noticed around the room several tables were getting bread. When I mentioned this to my wife, she said she noticed it said on the menu that you have to ask for it. So I tried to catch our waitresses attention to order some, to no avail. Fortunately they came to refill our water, so I ordered some. When the bread came my wife said it was too sickly sweet for her, so I tried some, and it tasted like someone had dipped it in a sugar bowl. We finally figured out the sweetness was in the butter, so we were so hungry by this time we just ate the bread without the butter. After that our meal finally showed up an hour and twenty minutes later. Did I mention we felt like we were being ignored. I had ordered the Swordfish and my wife had ordered the Cobia. My swordfish was so dry, it tasted like cardboard, however the cobia was delicious. The prices were good here, the atmosphere, just ok, and it was very loud here, to the point where you almost had to yell, just to be heard. Again I'm telling you it could just have been an off night, as it was the weekend before Valentines, and several of the people were already celebrating it, however, it was a bad enough experience for us who are locals in the area, to never return. For my money, there our much better places in the area to dine at. read more

An excellent dining experience! The menu selections are intriguing, the food quality is excellent and the staff is exceptional. The atmosphere is cozy with about a dozen tables, so make a reservation! The dishes were served with plenty of time between the app, the salad, the entrée and dessert. There was no rush here, just pure relaxed enjoyment of the meal. As we waited outside for our table, the dinners who had just vacated our spot raved to us about the food. There really is nothing that gets the appetite goosed like having a delicious meal described to you by a first time patron as the kitchen smells waft past your nose. They were so impressed with the food and staff that they swore to return on a regular basis. My party of 10 and I wanted to try out Fat Kahuna but were turned away because our party was too large. The server suggested we try this place instead. I was surprised to see it was located in a crappy little strip mall. The smell of the place was very strong - not like a seafood restaurant smell - but just smelly in general. The place was nearly empty and the host acted as though he wasn't sure he could accommodate our large party. It was strange. I have no idea why the server from Fat Kahuna recommended this place. It's not burgers and sea fare - it was overly priced pasta and fish. Expect to pay at least $20 an entree and an $8 up charge if you want to share something. I had the grouper and while it was good, it was certainly nothing spectacular. Why the high price tag? Even for a pasta dish sans protein? I just don't get it. I'm all for supporting a mom and pop joint but not in a place like this where the prices are so high. There are no free refills either. $2 a soda because they get it from a can. I don't recommend this place at all. Find somewhere else. read more

A small restaurant with a big heart! Pompano Grill's location on something of a small strip mall and somewhat dated interior (though I loved the chairs and mismatched plates!) is, well, 'worrying' isn't the right word - it wasn't that bad - but I was starting to wonder if my fellow Yelp-ers had let me down. However, as soon as we were greeted and sat all of that disappeared. Our waitress, Liz, who I believe is also the owner of the place - or maybe co-owner - was immediately accommodating of my peanut allergy (there's a Thai peanut sauce on the menu). While I try not to make a big deal of it ever since I don't want to seem like an ass or a pain, she insisted I was neither. There was a list of fish that were caught fresh just that day and I opted for the wahoo served almondine and I was not disappointed. I'd never had wahoo before and decided to try it on a whim (come on, it's called 'wahoo') - it was delicious. You could taste how fresh the fish was and it was prepared perfectly. My only complaint with the meal was that it was served with grilled vegetables and fettucini alfredo. The fettucini was good, but I like to eat fish because it's filling, but light - fettucini alfredo is really heavy and the opposite of the fish I was eating. As 10 o'clock rolled around we were one of the last two tables in the restaurant and were discussing the Space Shuttle launches (the reason I was down in Florida) with Liz. She mentioned her fear that once they stopped flying them later this year, the business in the area would dry up. According to her, Cocoa Beach was a ghost town after the Challenger tragedy and she's afraid it will be again. It would truly be a shame if Pompano Grill had to close down. Liz, I don't know if you read the reviews on this site, but as I mentioned to you, I truly wish I could come back more often, but sadly Pennsylvania is really far away. We visited Pompano Grill on a Friday night for a birthday celebration with a party of ten. We made reservations in advance (which I would recommend because it is small). We had an assortment of appetizers which were all perfectly prepared and very popular. ALL of them were devoured. The specials were announced by our server Erica (who was excellent) and we proceeded to order...some in our party ordered from the menu..others from the specials. No matter...it was all fantastic. The biggest attraction of this place is the freshness of all the fish on the menu as well as the fact that it is almost 100% locally caught. Everybody in our party was extremely pleased with their meals. We ordered a few bottles of wine before dinner and it was a good match and a good value. Overall it was a great experience and I will definitely return. The prices are reasonable and the portions are generous. Having dined recently at an overpriced, overrated seafood chain (Hint: Chart House), I'd say there is NO COMPARISON. I'd take the Pompano Grill any day of the week even though I live much closer to the Chart House. The biggest surprise about the Pompano Grill is that it has been in Cocoa Beach since 1999 and has managed to stay under the radar. Pompano exceeded our expectations! We arriv early, and without a reservation. We were very lucky to get seated. The twelve tables were mostly full before we finished our salads. The charteuterie board and eggplant with mozzarella appetizers were both wonderful and ample. I enjoyed the seafood crepe with black rice and Brussel sprouts. My wife had the clam pasta. The ingredients were very fresh, flavorful, attractively presented, and the portions were generous. We had no room for dessert, and our leftovers will be enough for lunch tomorrow. We had a large party hand was able to be seated even though they preferred reservations (the place was empty). I had the coconut shrimp and it tasted fresh but couldn't taste the actual coconut. You will need reservations made in advance since this is a small dining room. It is family owned and family run. Don't let the small size fool you, however. The menu has multiple choices of seafood as well as chicken and steaks. All are uniquely and well prepared and flavorful. Seafood items vary daily, based upon what is available and fresh.
