Wasn't too sure about this place when we pulled in but SO glad we stayed for dinner. The food was amazing and cooked perfectly.

We were on vacation and decided to check it out! Make reservations as this is a very small place :) At the beginning we were a little off put with our waiter, Mike. He was very curt and his first words to us were "can I get you a bottle of wine" no hello, intro, nothing....being our first time here....a little strange? We then decided to "kill him with kindness" and it worked.....by the time the apps came he was engaged and helpful....but one should never have to work for good attention! ~ CHARCUTERIE BOARD....It was an app special and very good....unfortunately we asked for a loaf of bread to go with it and it did not come out until we were eating our dinners...and with that it was 4 small pieces....it was the end of the night and were told they "could" make us more but it would take a little bit....seeing as though we already had our dinners it did not seem necessary....but would have been nice to have the fresh bread available at the beginning like everyone around us and on top the bread was AMAZING so more would have been welcoming :) ~ ESCARGOT....Escargot, sauteed in a brandy cream sauce, with leeks & capers (it was VERY different than any other Escargot we have ever eaten....but in a very good way....Delicious!!) ~ SHRIMP & GRITS.....Our spicy blackened shrimp, served over white cheddar grits with a drizzle of red eye gravy (probably one of the best shrimp and grits I have ever ordered!) We saw the chef walking around a bit but did not get a chance to talk to him. His food will definitely bring us back but the "finishing touches" need to be worked on with the price point of the food. In town for the week, stopped in without a reservation. Hostess was very accommodating and found us (my wife and I, plus 11 yr old) a table quickly. We ordered two small plates of scallops, pasta carbonara, a side Caesar salad and bread, plus two soft drinks and a water. The scallops, 3 per plate, were cooked well with a nice summer garnish and a drizzle of flavorful sauce. It was good, but was more like a small appetizer priced like an entree. The carbonara was decent but was also a small portion. The bread was warm and appropriate for the table, but was added to the bill at $5 per small loaf. Bill came to $90+ and we all three left hungry. The atmosphere is shabby chic, but the dining room is small and was very loud which prevented any real conversation. My fiancé and I were visiting from Chicago, home of amazing food and tend to have high expectations for food. We were looking for great atmosphere with even better food and that what we found. From the outside it's not much too see, but there is still cute seating while you wait. The inside is super super cute, has an upscale vibe with nice table settings. We ordered the coconut shrimp as an appetizer, it was good, wasn't amazing but that's because I tend to like a dipping sauce and they served theirs with an apple sauce. They do offer bread service upon request but we didn't want to fill up, however those who got it- it did look good! I ordered the shrimp scampi and my fiancé got the Cobia with vegetables and starch of the day. The scampi was good, I was hoping for a little more complex flavors but was very lemony & oily, still good. My fiancé's Cobia was amazing-- he ordered it blackened - super moist and fresh! The vegetables served on the side were the absolute star-- SOO GOOD! hey were sautéed and grilled- great flavor! All the presentation was adorable, pasta came in a shell bowl while the other dishes were artistically presented. We were full for dessert but I'm sure they would have had some great options! This is a small, out of the way restaurant which is fairly high on the TripAdvisor list. I also heard a good recommendation from a local resident. So, we decided to try it on a Tuesday night. It is quite small, with a total of 50 seats. Having just eaten at Big Kahuna a few nights before, we had a good comparison. My wife had the muscles appetizer and I had blackened red fish, one of the fresh fish specials. Both were excellent. My wife has had muscles all over the world and these were some of the best. The appetizer portion, with some bread on the side, was more than enough for a very complete dinner. The blackened red fish was lightly blackened (not so heavy as sometimes with blackened fish) soft and flakey inside and served very hot. Green beans and a very good Chinese brown rice came with the fish. A great balance of tastes. Compared to Big Kahuna, the presentation was not nearly as over the top. Very simple in fact. But in our mind, Pompano grill had the top rated taste of the two. And a bonus, you do not need to make a reservation days in advance. Highly recommended. read more

Went here for date night Saturday night and everything was fantastic! The wine selection was very nice and the server was extremely knowledgeable to help us with a selection! We started with the deep fried brie, then shared the shrimp and grits and one of the fish specials. All the food was the bomb! This place was amazing!! We took a day trip to cocoa beach and was disappointed by the beach but luckily this restaurant made our whole trip. The ambiance of the small restaurant is excellent, it is homey yet fine dining. The service was excellent as well. I love that the family runs the restaurant. At one point they got really busy but our service never suffered. And the food was superb! Everything we had was outstanding. They were also very considerate with changes to any dishes. This part of Cocoa Beach is great for walking and eating/drinking. So many different varieties to choose from. Pompano Grill is a fantastic stop on our walk. We ordered appetizers and salad. I upgraded my salad to a mushroom bisque which was to die for! Our escargot & calamari apps were light, fresh and flavorful! Many entrees could be had as apps. Reservations are recommended for groups 4 or more since it is a small place! They were able to take us in since we were only having apps - but the room filled up quickly. The servers are knowledgeable and friendly. It is definitely a spot that the locals call home - many guests were local and frequent customers! Too bad they don't have a full bar. Beer & wine only. Good choices for both though. We will be back in the Spring. read more

This was very very good but VERY EXPENSIVE. They have a kids menu which is nice. Yes, it is small, but a very nice atmosphere. Yelp has it moderately priced, even on the affordable side, but be prepared to spend a lot. For example, the steak was $45. Also, they no longer offer the mid-week pre fixe. Really cannot recommend this place. Our party of four left very unsatisfied. The shrimp and grits was too salty to finish. The tomahawk was poorly cooked and $110. The filet was ok, but overpowered by the sweet sauce...and $70. The halibut was returned to the kitchen. They forgot our Caesar salads. The waitress misunderstood my friend when she ordered a Malbec and refused to adjust the price afterwards. We spent $500 for a party of 4 and the waitress refused to adjust the price $8 for her mistake. They also have a lot of items marked as MP/Market Price, so we had no idea that the Tomahawk was $110 or we would have sent it back immediately. A completely random person that wasn't our server brought a mask that we left out to the car and commented "thanks for the tip" sarcastically. We did a split bill, and my friend didn't tip on her 25% of the bill (because of the wine issue) but the rest of us tipped 15-18%, so to try to shame us at the last minute really sealed the deal on the WORST dining experience that we've had in a while. read more

Omg, I have had some great dinners but this one was superb. Our appetizers were pan seared yellowfin tuna with a wasabi crust and scallops in saffron sauce. They were exquisite. My husband had the lump crab meat chowder that was also delicious. I thought I would not be able to eat another bite until our entrees came and I dove into my shrimp and grits. They were hands down the best shrimp and grits I've ever had! My husband had jerk chicken mac and cheese which was fantastic. Of course I found some room for dessert as well. Terrible! The staff was not attentive and did not care about our experience or even ask us how everything was. The drink was not good and way over priced. The food was way over priced and not enough food for how much we paid. We got some of the cheapest food on the menu and for two people paid almost $100. Personally I think for the quality and quantity of the food we paid too much. I understand that they use fresh and good ingredients but still way too overpriced. The room we ate in was too small and all the tables were too close together. I felt like I could hear every bodies conversations. Also it was very stuffy. It was smoky the whole time and we could barely hear each other talk it was so loud. They shouldn't name their business a grill if you don't see any grill food. We thought we were going to a nice seafood restaurant but they barely had any seafood options. Personally did not enjoy our time. Everything was overpriced and if you are vacationing on a budget don't go there! read more

Went to Pompano Grill last night. Another tremendous evening. Food was amazing. I had Snapper, my wife had Grouper, our friends had Salmon and the Black Pasta. The three fish meals were great. My friend was not enthusiastically eating the pasta dish. When we asked he stated it was "good but not what I expected. I expected larger pieces of the shell fish in shell". A short time later, Erika came by to make sure everyone was happy with their meal. My friend said his was "good, but....". She immediately insisted that she be allowed to replace it wanting ALL of her customers to enjoy their meal. He said no because the problem was that he chose incorrectly and should have questioned how it was prepared before he ordered. Erika insisted and assured him she could speedily replace his meal with one of the fish selections so he would not be way behind us eating his dinner. We all supplied him with a small portion of our meals to nibble on while he waited. When he got his meal he reciprocated and we all got to taste his. Everything turned out wonderfully thanks to Erika and a great chef. She did absolutely the right thing, was gracious about it and made a good dining experience into a fantastic evening with friends, in a fine restaurant. This has been a difficult review. Why? Because the food is phenomenal but the service leaves much to be desired. I waited tables for almost twenty years and managed a restaurant for about four years, after much thought I think the issue is not enough wait staff for the type of dining experience they are trying to give. There were only two waitresses and two runners/bus boys for thirteen tables. Four people were host/hostess, offering wine tasting, taking orders, answering phones, refilling water, running food (which took 55 minutes to get), moving tables for parties, etc, etc. you get the idea. There were long periods of time when no one checked on us, my husband never received his refill, I was beginning to think our dinner order had been lost. I will give the place another try because the food was fantastic, hopefully the service will be better. read more

This little restaurant didn't look like much from the outside but let me tell you - this little gem packs a punch! We are in town for a cruise and were looking for a fine dining restaurant to splurge on. Our hotel gave us several recommendations which we looked up menus on. The menu had steak and seafood, so we thought "sure, safe bet all around" so we went here. From the outside, it looks to be a cafe, quaint and simple and not fine dining however indoors, the decor is modern and trendy (breath of fresh air!) They sat us quickly and gave a rundown of the specials. Everything sounded delicious but we ended up ordering off the menu. We started with the fried Brie (w/ nuts, fruit compote, bacon chips, and bread) which was FANTASTIC! One of the top 2 appetizers I've ever had. I got the 8 oz filet (medium) with carbonara and a side salad. The filet had the best/even char and was cooked to perfection. They provided a steak knife but I literally used a butter knife on it. The carbonara was just as good! My wife also got the filet (medium well) with the house special risotto. It was divine. After dinner, our waitress stopped by to chat and realized this was the owner. It was so nice to see such pride of ownership. We topped the night off with Key Lime Pie and Affogato. There is nothing I would have changed and cannot wait to visit again when we are back. Way overpriced. We spent 175.00 and felt the dinner was good but not great for the price. We had the chicken cordon BLEU which was a bit dry but the sauce made up for it. The shrimp scampi again good but not great The deserts were all 9 or 10.00. Potions looked small for the price. Salads were just ok. A lot of folks don't like blue cheese. The food was decent. Big, big, big problems with the fact that we came here with a 4 month old and no place to change her. With no help from any of the staff, we had to place her on the dirty floor and change her. The waitress chased us down after we left and berated us because we didn't leave a "big enough" tip for her even though she was not the one to bring us our food or appetizers. Afterwards, I called and the manager stated that it was our fault that we didn't make sure that we had a proper place to change our child and the "ONUS" was on us. This is not a family friendly place and if you do not meet their expectations as a customer they will chase you down in the parking lot and berate you!! read more

This was our first time here. A special Birthday occasion for my wife. We dined with another couple. We heard all good reviews for this restaurant, I was warned that it is a little pricey, but price is never a deterrent when we want good food, combined with a special occasion with friends. The good: The food is amazing, I had yellow fin tuna, two others had Cobia, and one had NY Strip steak. One had Pasta with Carbonara sauce, and a week later he is still talking about how good it was. The salads were amazing, ample size, and full of flavor. For appetizers we had coconut shrimp and Calamari both were excellent We had a house Chianti that was very disappointing so we switched to their Ring Bolt Cabernet which was excellent. The Moscato was Bosc dla Rei was also excellent. One minor take away was having to ask for bread with meal or salad. They willingly brought it but had we not asked?? Big negative and the only reason for only four stars, our Server "Erica" while efficient, was extremely abrupt, too quick, gave a near Stu Cato delivery of everything. I wouldn't say brash, but very close to it. The server needs to keep in mind, that the patron is not as well versed with the menu as Erica is. She wasn't rude, only barely pleasant but clearly annoyed when one of our diners was struggling on choice of steak. It was like the lightning round on Family Feud...like a stop watch was running, "cmon madam make up your mind" is how we were made to feel. We all felt the same. The restaurant was barely 50% capacity, two servers and two runners, so Erica was NOT that busy. I was watching the other server, a young black male, very pleasant, and he was the one who greeted us on our arrival and he went out of his way to say good night and thank you as we were leaving. Erica was no where to be found when we declined desert. If we had him as our server I would have given six stars. Is the restaurant that good? Yes. But sadly Erica made us all feel like we were at a Fast Food chain bordering on counter service type restaurant. read more

Single biggest turn around of a dining experience in history. What started as an embarrassing, miserable and infuriating evening ended up being a very pleasurable dinner. I had invited several friends to join me because of my wonderful dining experiences of the past. When we arrived on time per reservations, the table was not ready and one server was working the dining room. twenty minutes passed and no drink order. 45 minutes and no food order, I was so embarrassed because all I had raved about, was starting to look made up ( I have a reputation for picking great restaurants). FINALLY, the manager (i assume) entered the restaurant (she had tried to take the night off to be with family) and took complete control. She had several complimentary appetizers brought out quickly to soothe the irritation. Next she got the food orders in and out in a hurry,( and the quality was as I had promoted) all the while drink glasses never got shallow. I know I have thus far focused on service, but I ordered the scallops in cream sauce, which came cooked to perfection. Usually I order the catch of the day almondine style, which is always perfect.. The highlight of every trip to Pompano Grill for me, is the desert. I rarely eat desert when I go out but I made the exception once for their carrot cake, and now it is a traditional indulgence of every trip to PG. It is so moist, it is like carrot cake pudding. I do not know who the manager is at Pompano Grill, but I will find out next time I am in town. She is one of the most effective people I have ever been around, and would vote for her for president. read more

After reading the glowing reviews, we decided to stop in and give Pompano Grill a try. We were in line behind two couples who were seating almost immediately. As soon as we came up to be seated the hostess dissappered into the back for almost 20 minutes. My wife and I were standing there and another couple arrived and waited 10 minutes before they left in disgust. About 5 minutes after the other couple departed, the hostess returned and asked us if we had reservations. When we replied that we didn't, her reply was "sorry, we can't help you". I don't care how good the food is, I can get better service at McDonald's. read more

Can't go wrong here. Came here last night after reading other reviews. Great variety of menu items. Both my girlfriend and I choose pasta dishes which we are very picky about. She ordered the capellini with alfredo sauce and assorted veggies. I ordered the capellini with pesto and added shrimp. Both were very yummy and very filling. Service was great and so was the bread which as assorted and very warm. Definitely a go back to when we return to Cocoa Beach. read more

My husband and I went for dinner on my birthday last night after having dined here for more than a few times in the last year - all I can say is it will be at least a year before we return. I am a big fan of fresh grouper and usually order it chargrilled, this rock hard dry chunk of fish presented was anything but appetizing, frozen fish for sure because it was like rubber, and the single offering of green beans as the ONLY vegetable was equally unacceptable, so I elected the curry rice and there too this dish was dry and had no taste. The only good food that we enjoyed was the Caesar salad. Please get someone who knows how to cook and maybe an owner who can deliver something more than just lip service when it comes to diners satisfaction. read more

I would have never come to this restaurant because from the outside it looks like a hole in the wall. But my wife and I came for our anniversary when a good friend recommended it. It is fantastic! High quality, delicious food and great wait staff. One of the owners even came out tonchat with us. We had the wasabi encrusted seared tuna for an appetizer, fillet with crab topping and lobster tails for enter, and coconut cake and creme brûlée for dessert. Five stars! read more

We went to Pompano Grill on the recommendation of a couple of people. We were enthusiastically greeted by Erika with a "K"! Erika was most informative, energetic and most importantly knowledgeable about fish. She told us what fish was what, where they're caught and how they taste. I have a severe allergy to Salmon and she was quick to ensure me that she'd speak with the chef and make sure my meal was prepared in a very safe way. My husband and I had the Golden tile fish which was excellent. The serving size was a bit skimpy for the price as it could have easily been a couple of ounces larger. My mom ordered the Red Snapper which was unfortunately dry. She told Erika's mom and the meal was quickly replaced with an ample portion of Golden tile done Almondine style which my Mom loved. We ordered the Coconut lime curd with cream cheese frosting cake.....OH MY!!! It was exceptional and we all loved it.
