Let's be honest, eating dinner at a garden centre usually sounds like the sort of things your parents or grandparents (depending on your age!) would do, however, this little slice of African themed heaven is a far cry from what you'd normal expect of such a place! I've not made it to Africa, though have traveled widely in Asia, and the outside felt totally authentic, being similar to bars and restaurants I've eaten in abroad. Even outside, you are sheltered from the rain, and inside, where the buffet is served, it's warm and cosy, with live music of an evening, and the most amazing spread of food. I've been a number of times since that first dinner, having returned in the day with my dog, as it's dog friendly if you're happy to sit outside - they even bring a bowl of water for our four legged friends! I've had lunch there, and the most fabulous afternoon cream tea, and cake, whilst the choice is limited, what they offer is very tasty (and I'm a fan of cake!) I loved it that much the first night, that I've refused to go there for a meal again, as I'm going for my 40th, which happens to fall on a Thursday, and looking forward to sharing the experience with close friends. The service is always friendly. It's not always super fast, as it runs on Kenyan time, so this isn't the place to go in a rush. Indeed, why would you? It's such a delightful experience that it deserves to be cherished. Oh, and the shop is pretty fab too! So yes, dog friendly, fab food, great shop and friendly service!

Luckily for us the entrance is well tucked away at the top of the shopping centre, and we only knew it was there after asking the security guard if there was anything else upstairs - sometimes being nosey pays off! There seemed to be people getting turned away near the door as there were no tables free but mum and I just walked straight past to the bar counter at the back - so sometimes not asking permission for stuff pays off too! We perched at the statement golden bar for a while then headed outside to the balcony area. There's lots of white sofas and tables to reserve around. Sipping on bubbles in the evening sunshine and enjoying the view over the Pendigo Lake, we felt like we were in a bar somewhere much more exotic than Brum! Then we had breaded mushrooms with Aioli which was good. For dinner I had stalk, salad, and sweet potato fries. It was yummy everything was cooked very well. Our whole reason for choosing Bodega was because one of our party is a student and a nurse, and Bodega advertise "20% off your bill for students" and "20% off your bill for NHS", so we figured we stood a pretty good chance of getting 20% off our bill. When the bill turned up we were told several stories as to why we can't use the discount: "Sorry student discount is not available Saturday nights" "NHS discount only covers your meal, everyone else has to pay full price" We checked on the website, we looked at the sign outside, nowhere did it mention these restrictions. "It's in our terms and conditions..." So we asked to see these terms and conditions, surprisingly the manager couldn't show us. Shocker. We finally settled on: "OK, well on this occasion I'll allow the discount on all of the food, but the drinks are going to be full price. That's the best I can do". The bill fiasco meant a meagre tip for our fantastic waitress, a real shame because up until that stage, she'd been superb.
