The decor is nice in the front section there are several comfy sofas and chairs if you just want to come for a drink. Then there are lots of country tables and chairs very casual and homey. Some nice large and small ones. There's also a nice long bar to hang at. I had a strawberry rhubarb vodka cocktail and my husband had an elderberry gin cocktail. Both were delicious. Then we had breaded mushrooms with Aioli which was good. For dinner I had stalk, salad, and sweet potato fries. It was yummy everything was cooked very well. My husband had q Brazilian chicken dish with rice that was brat as well. For dessert we shared the chocolate mousse and Chardonnay. Both were very good and nice sized. The service was great - very attentive and top notch. Everything cost £50 which was very reasonable or the quantity and quality of everything. This is an ideal place to pop into any time of the day from breakfast to lunch to afternoon tea. Good old fashioned basic food served freshly cooked at a reasonable cost in a very friendly atmosphere. Give it a try if you haven't already. Not posh but clean and friendly.

After walking around Hereford for half an hour on a Saturday morning (it's a small place), we'd given up on finding somewhere decent to get breakfast. It was only by chance that we decided to take a shortcut back to the car that we ventured up one of the small alley ways off the square towards the cathedral that we found La Madeleine. The main room is small and is overlooked by the small kitchen at the back. Filled with a mix match of wooden chairs and tables, the dining room is comfortable and would be great place to meet up for breakfast or take a breather from shopping. The real draw is the small garden at the back. Secluded and lush, it's a brilliant hidden oasis in the middle of the town, and a perfect place to sit out. We both ordered eggs Benedict which was very good. Served with bacon as opposed to ham, and a slightly unusual, buttery hollandaise, it really hit the spot. Two eggs Benedict and two strong coffees came in under twenty quid. La Madeleine is open Monday through Saturday for breakfast and lunch, and is licensed. It loses a star only for not being open on Sunday when we wanted to come back with the rest of the family.
