My husband took me here as part of my birthday treat a few months ago and I will be forever grateful that he did. It is really quite difficult to put in to words just how good the cocktails are. The premise of this place is that they make 'molecular cocktails' - essentially cocktails that they have scientifically concocted so that all of the ingredients complement each other molecularly. For just £50 per person, you are treated to a 7-course cocktail menu. With each delicious cocktail you are brought a unique side dish that has been chosen specifically for that drink. We were given such unusual dishes (including slices of cured meats and filled pasta!) that oddly did enhance the taste of the cocktails. As well as the delicious cocktails, what this place also has going for it is the decor. It is very sleek, elegant and gothic. The service is also incredibly good as well. I would absolutely recommend going to this cocktail bar if you can. You would be stupid not to go here. It is absolutely worth visiting. I cannot wait to return.

She plied us with alcohol and helped recommend tasty menu choices, food which arrived very quickly I might add. We had a feast. The food was very good, with standout dishes like the homemade nachos, (the best I've ever had) and a Xim Xim - Brazilian football legend, Pele's favourite meal (apparently). The meatballs were good, the empanadas were good, everything was good. Until we got the bill. Our whole reason for choosing Bodega was because one of our party is a student and a nurse, and Bodega advertise "20% off your bill for students" and "20% off your bill for NHS", so we figured we stood a pretty good chance of getting 20% off our bill. When the bill turned up we were told several stories as to why we can't use the discount: "Sorry student discount is not available Saturday nights" "NHS discount only covers your meal, everyone else has to pay full price" We checked on the website, we looked at the sign outside, nowhere did it mention these restrictions. "It's in our terms and conditions..." So we asked to see these terms and conditions, surprisingly the manager couldn't show us. Shocker. We finally settled on: "OK, well on this occasion I'll allow the discount on all of the food, but the drinks are going to be full price. That's the best I can do". The bill fiasco meant a meagre tip for our fantastic waitress, a real shame because up until that stage, she'd been superb.

They have an incredible beer selection, but for me, this place is all about the cocktails - and boy do they do good cocktails! Amoeba is small. It is set over 3 levels; ground level with a few tables, the bar is upstairs and then downstairs you'll find a few more tables and nice terrace area. The decor is dark red and it's nice and dimly lit. They have a large blackboard on the wall with a list of all of their beers and an amazing selection of spirits behind the bar. I've felt instantly comfortable and every time Ive been to Amoeba. It always has a great atmosphere and it isn't what you'd expect from a cocktail bar in Clifton. It's nowhere near as pretentious or uninviting as Hausbar up the road. There's no door knocking here! They had a decent DJ (although he was sat down, ha) and the staff were great. Food is gorgeous - tapas style, so brilliant for if you are only peckish or after a bit more They also serve the pub classics such as burgers, chips etc. They are tasty - far tastier than any chain pub I have eaten in before. Serve the usual drinks - wines, beers, fantastic cocktails (the bar men will create to your own taste if it is not on the menu and they have the ingredients - you just have to ask) This place has the benefit of table service. Something that other pubs in town are lacking. Music is played but not too loud - meaning you can have a conversation without shouting. There is an outside area with heating lamps, which is good in the summer months and evenings. Highly recommend this pub to people of all ages.

The desserts are a mixture of freshly made on site, ready prepared shipped in from the larger company and bought to sell. The range and choice is fantastically huge with lots of options, just what you want in a dessert shop. My only gripe is that on the soda floats menu they don't offer the one and only original with root beer (not alcoholic), when they do it will be dessert shop perfection for me outside of London. On our last visit my son was able to take home, that which he couldn't consume from over indulgence.
