They mark everything as homemade, but whose home since there's no oven on the premises and nothing is baked there? I wanted a really authentic experience for a pastry calorie bomb, but instead, got mediocre supermarket grade snacks at a premium. I was appalled when the cabinet I was sitting next to popped open and I saw Eccles cake--the same as what was plated in a Saran-wrapped plate right on the sideboard above the cabinet--individually wrapped in manufactured plastic packaging, and TESCO SUPERMARKET BRAND chocolate chip cookies also neatly stacked in mass production packaging. But on the other hand, I guess it's pretty authentic since locals eat it? Further souring the experience was when I asked where the scones were actually from and I found out the bakery the server said did not even exist, which felt very dishonest. Also, the scone was microwaved and had a spongy, mass-produced American biscuit taste to it (think KFC with raisins). They had no idea what type of cheese was even in the sandwiches, either. The cakes are supposedly locally sourced, but at this point, I find it difficult to believe anything said. The jams they sell up front are not what they use in the food, either. The food wasn't really awful, but save your money and get the real deal elsewhere. You're paying for the ambiance, but not much more, but Broadway is a bit of a Cotswold tourist trap, it seems. So sad I went out of my way to come here. Biggest disappointment during my whole trip.

Fortunately there were some empty tables for us to enjoy morning coffee. It was very lovey, inside and I was not disappointed. I had a genuine British tea experience with creamed tea and clotted cream & jam with scones (photo). Service was given cheerfully and promptly. It's not a very big space inside, but I think the patio seating area made up for it on a nice weather day. It was really too bad we couldn't get in there (you can probably tell I'm still sort of sore about that). It was overall a great British tea experience for all of us. If I lived around here, I'd come back for some more. Highly recommended.

The charming and quaint honey colored limestone building with a small outdoor patio makes for a relaxing afternoon tea experience. The clotted cream, cakes, dainty cucumber sandwiches, soups, and scones were glorious. The lemon cake was superb. It was quite possibly the best lemon cake I've ever tasted. Had some chocolate flavor and tasted good with milk. Hubby ordered Mac and cheese and it was served piping hot with a slice of garlic bread. Pretty good too! Kiddo ordered hot chocolate with marshmallows and a chocolate cake. The cake itself was soft and moist and not overly sweet. Went well with the tea and hot chocolate. The hot chocolate seemed standard and she seemed to like it. The place is not overly pricey for a touristy place. Service was also good and friendly.

We settled on Martha's as it looked liked it had the best homemade pastry. Mind your head as like a lot of the older establishments (like centuries old), the ceiling is low. Love their inside dining room as well as their outside patio. It was starting to sprinkle, so we decided to eat inside by the window. I had the Hot Chocolate with Marshmallow and Cream and my friend had tea with milk. We also ordered 2 different kinds of their house made scones, and those came with raspberry jam and clotted cream. The scones were great. They weren't sweet, so the went perfectly on it. When in England, you have to have the clotted cream with your scone. The scone has enough butter in it. They are really friendly here too! Hope we can come back again during our short stay here in the Cotswolds.
