If you ever get the opportunity to tour this location totally jump on it, they are of the highest quality when recognizing your loved ones level of care needed and the layout of each home is so perfect. It is exactly the "home environment" I have been looking for in an elderly care location. Let me rave about the activities a little more!!! Scenic drives, art programs, bingo, discussion groups, and PARTIES, PARTIES, PARTIES!! They celebrate EVERYTHING and I never have to worry about my loved one feeling left out of the fun because everyone is included here!!

We feel we're working together with the staff and administrators here to optimize the situation--one person is having trouble adjusting to being away from home; the other calls the Gardens home. Several hospice nurses and two garden volunteers from the community, as well as a few visitors we've met, have assured us that this is generally an excellent place, especially when compared with the range of what's "out there." My own observations are that the staff work cheerfully and are very helpful. They know the residents well, are kind, and have been communicative with us. The activities staff are terrific. Administrators are responsive and staff really engages our loved ones, encouraging them to participate in activities in their building and at the lovely organic produce gardens that supply vegetables and flowers for the care and local communities. The therapeutic gardening program brings in community volunteers and students. One of our seniors with dementia feels that the menu is somewhat repetitive. Admin arranged a meeting with the director of food services, who personally came twice to chat with our relative about it. This person doesn't like vegetables and there are healthy amounts of those given at meals--hence we have a problem for our veggie-hater. We appreciate the admin taking it seriously.

We arrived a few mins before our appointment which was at 10am, no one was there. We waited for over 30 mins, called all the numbers on the business cards with no luck getting through to anyone, even the main business card number was disconnected! In addition we saw business cards for Pacifica, thinking maybe they were affiliated which they are not, the individual I spoke with had no idea what Legacy Hills at Poway was. I can't begin to express my disappointment. We even asked a few residents and they said no one is ever at the front desk. Not to mention the tools left parking lot including a table saw!! Over the last 2 years, things have completely changed. There is never anyone at the front desk. If you do find someone, they are unable or unwilling to help any residents. The lobby is filthy, and the property is run down. The worst part of all- they make you believe that if a resident pulls their emergency cord- something will be done. Ha! The alarms are constantly beeping at the front desk and no one cares. Don't rely on anyone checking on you or your loved ones. Resident's packages are left at the front door or on the ground and no one will notify you. The washers don't work and the cards that you have to use don't work. The front desk's answer to this is to call the card company - who never answers the phone! I haven't been able to do my laundry here in a year. There are smokers who sit outside of our windows, and no one will do anything about it. You are welcome to come see the decrepit thread bare flags on the flag posts welcoming you in!

This is a copy of a letter to Remington Clubs Business / Corporate office sent February 25, 2025…read more My Father moved out of Remington on February 20, 2025: I am writing you to express my complete disappointment as to the services he received at Remington since his move in date of September 2023. First, I want to start off with the issue of someone entering my father's locked apartment (with a security key) on December 31, 2024, at approx. 9:45pm. When I spoke to you about this incident the following day (January 1, 2025) you assured me that a few things would happen immediately; first his locks would be changed ASAP (that never happened) and I would receive a call from the "Executive Director" of Remington the following day, of course, that never happened either. I never got a follow up call from your office as to what happened with these promises. I understand after a conversation with a resident from the fourth floor that someone came into his apartment (uninvited) with a security key on or about 3:45pm January 28 or 29th. It appears the security of the residents is somewhat lacking. Also, the housekeeping staff that "cleaned" my father's apartment on a weekly basis did a very poor job. Quite frankly given the amount of money he spent on rent we would have expected a higher level of service. Speaking of rent, the issue of him being overcharged for two months after my mother went to Memory Care in November was completely unacceptable, especially when we were given written assurances that it would be taken care of immediately after the first month (reference my letter dated December 23, 2024). FYI, we notified your office a few days after she entered memory care that she no longer would be a resident of Remington yet it took over two months for it to be resolved. Regarding the elevator issue in my father's building that was inoperable from November through the first part of January; it is hard to believe how Remington allowed residents of that age group (and health) to be inconvenienced in that way. In addition, there were several times his AC was not operable during a heat wave and staff was unresponsive - not to mention he had to spray his unit for bugs. Also, we were assured that his carpet would be cleaned once a year - of course that never happened. This certainly does not reflect the "Five Star Living" your company advertises. The one area where Remington did excel was the food service, which for a Senior Facility, was exceptional. Also, the serving staff was very patient and attentive to the residents, however, literally everything else there, all aspects of the service and the age / condition of the apartments considering it's 2025 now, was very sub-par given the price point. Finally, I read a review on Yelp from a Tawny Lysak (dated November 2024) that reflects her unease over the treatment her mother received at Remington's Club II in October 2024. I understand there are two sides to a story but given the staff's inaction on several fronts I believe every word of that review. Rest assured I will post this letter word for word on as many review portals for Remington Club as possible. Thank you. Robert Fusco

She was exhausted and he was uncomfortable. We were referred to Huntington Gate by the hospice social worker. The owner, Phillip, knew all the right things to say and helped us along the way. He made us not feel guilty about or decision by explaining the round-the-clock care and how we could now rest and focus on being his family. Our caregiver, Tess and everyone else were so kind and knowledgeable. It's hard to be around such sadness, but they made us feel good. Food was exceptional, healthy and delicious. I will miss my daily visits there but have promised to come and be a regular visitor. My hubby Lew had a beautiful room with a private bathroom. If there are 6 residents the staff ratio is one to three. This is crucial and pretty much as good as it gets. It's a close as you will find to a home from home. The care given by Melissa and her staff is amazing. The accommodation ranges from shared rooms through single ensuites and a great kitchen, dining room and lounge areas. And the garden is sunny with lots of beautiful plants and a very cool resident tortoise who is very fond of hibiscus flowers. When I initially visited, Melissa sat and talked with me for more than 2 hours. She will listen to what it is your loved one needs and talk through everything and help you with every step of the process, she will tell you exactly what she can and can't do. She has been running Garden Abode for more than 15 years and has a wealth of knowledge about everything you will need to know. She will manage meds, special diets and advise on Hospice when the time comes. She is very flexible on visiting and will accommodate any reasonable requests. The task may seem overwhelming to you but once the initial intake admin is complete Melissa and her staff will be able to provide comprehensive and compassionate care for your loved one. My husband was in their care for seven months. I was unable to keep him home any longer and Melissa and the staff really did provide a home for him. This was not an easy time by any means and Melissa helped our family navigate it with as much grace and dignity as is possible. If you are looking for care for yourself or a loved one in a comfortable and caring environment it may be the best thing you do to just give her a call and talk to her. If you leave a message she will call you back promptly. This part of life is a very difficult one to navigate. The decision to put your loved one into care is, at the very least, heart-wrenching. The facilities available range from massive expensive institutions run by corporations where, if your loved one is on the quiet side and deteriorating they may not receive the care you would hope for (and they are very much institutions regardless of what you may see when you tour) to small Board and Care facilities with a few beds and a dedicated staff, and everything in between. A Board and Care facility may well provide more personalized and superior care than a far more expensive large institution. Some are obviously better than others and you will know the facility that's right when you find it. I looked at many facilities trying to find accommodation for my husband who had dementia and was deteriorating. I came out of every tour of every facility and sat in the car and wept because I felt there was no way I could leave him in any of them.... then I found Garden Abode and Melissa. I can recommend them wholeheartedly. I don't think I could have found better and I thank Melissa, her daughter and the rest of the staff from the bottom of my heart. x

We couldn't recommend Garden Abode more highly.

My father who is in late stage Alzheimer's was in the Pomerado Hospital Geriatric Psych ward for a few weeks and upon his release it was determined that we couldn't bring him back home. He couldn't walk and unfortunately his Alzheimer's had only gotten worse and he had become quite agitated on a regular basis. Upon his release from Pomerado, we began searching for an affordable location in Poway mainly because that's where he's lived for the past 50 years, but also because that's where I live and my mother is close by, but now in Carmel Mountain. Huntington Manor is a very quaint, quiet and peaceful campus. It's surrounded by walkways, gardens and groves which made for a very nice environment and one that we thought my dad would enjoy. I believe it's family owned and all the staff members that I interacted with were all very sweet and patient. My father's residency was very brief as I mentioned because I think he was further into his Alzheimer's than any of us realized and unfortunately his episodes were quite disruptive to the other residents which I understand is not fair for them. We ultimately ended up moving him to Silverado in Escondido who I think is a more appropriate place for him and we'll more suited to tend to his needs, but I appreciate the care that Huntington Manor briefly gave him.
