I don't know how this place got 5 star reviews unless from friends and family. We went there on a Friday night and ordered pot stickers, beef with ginger and green onion, sweet and sour pork, and orange chicken. The waitress forgot the pot stickers and remembered after she checked our order when everything else was out. Ok that happens sometimes. But she forgot our tea two times and we never got it. Of the dishes, the orange chicken and sweet and sour pork were good. The beef was really bad. That was a shame since the sauce and onions were good. The pot stickers were not fresh either. They must have been sitting in a cooler to get that taste. The service was spotty, with our waitress disappearing for the other end of the restaurant and the only other waitress portering to-go orders from the kitchen to the pickup area. I could see that this was a family restaurant and it did look like some of the other orders might be good. read more

The food at Poly Feng Yuan is very generic and not particularly good. Honestly, I've made better Chinese food at home. My boyfriend also overheard the owners talking about how they got all their friends and the people that work there to go on yelp and give them good reviews. How do I know they microwaved our food? We were sitting close to the kitchen and could see right into it. We herd the microwave turn on !!! our food came out to us in literally 5 min after we ordered , that tells you it wasn't fresh. i've had better leftovers. one of our dishes was honey walnut shrimp , do not , i repeat do not order that!!!! to begin , it seemed like the shrimp was boiled placed on top of some kind of artificial fried noodle that tasted like plastic drenched in watered down oyster sauce , then thickened with cornstarch. it was gross!!! we asked if it could be replaced because it was not good tasting at all , they said sorry we can't do anything because we already made it. they are not accommodating. we were the only 2 people dining in!!!!! now to go back to my plate my steam pork was cold , even after they microwaved it. spare ribs was semi cold too. we did not have a great experience ... we will never ever go back there ever again!!!! very disappointed in the food and in customer service. i cant believe we wasted our hard earn money on that. when we could could have spent that on a much better meal. i am calling the department of health tomorrow. this cant be a legal operation, i do not think that this is following health codes. We enjoyed the food here the couple times we went but recently we brought in a beautiful 2.5lb moana kali and had them fry and sweet n sour sauce. Fish came out beautiful HOWEVER they fried it in BAD OIL and ruined the WHOLE fish, not to mention odd to put peas and carrots instead traditional onion, pineapple , bell pepper. We stopped in for a late lunch while touring Hilo to order smoked jellyfish, seafood bird's nest and steamed snapper with ginger & green onions which are traditional Chinese cuisine. They ran out of fried oysters which was disappointing. Everything was cooked fresh and took 20 minutes. I am of Chinese ancestry and can say their food was delicious and not overly salty which is my pet peeve. Service was excellent. Credit cards accepted. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you want solid Chinese food. read more

I live two blocks away so I have tried their food a few times and it is always disappointing. Even though I ordered a chicken dish, I was given some sort of pork on the side "complimentary". I don't eat pork. Everything tastes like it was microwaved in dishwater. Tacky decor with horrible fluorescent lights. But they do have a great floor show - it was entertaining to watch the owner yell at the cooks in the kitchen in Mandarin for getting an order wrong. read more

I can't believe I never found this place until today. Best Chinese food in Hilo, easily. The family style portions are large and the food fresh and tasty. My favorite was the General Tso's chicken and beef with broccoli. The only thing I didn't prefer was the appetizers--fried wontons and potstickers were a bit greasy. One thing about this place that I liked was the size of the tables. So great for my large family. It seemed clean. The food was not overly greasy which is big for us. Our waitress was very pleasant. I appreciate the amount of vegan/ vegetarian options and look forward to trying some other of their vegan options next time. We ate the tofu chop suey and it was a good amount of tofu and veggies were fresh. Could have used a little more flavor profile to it but was easily solved with a little soy sauce. The steamed fish with the ginger scallion sauce was a nice dish. Definitely a great option for takeout to avoid having to eat fast food on busy nights. Looking forward to trying other dishes. I got food to be delivered through Express Waiters and everything went smooth. I asked for soy sauce in the instructions and wasn't provided any. The food was pleasant. Better than I expected. I got the combination platters. It comes with fried rice, steam pork, and spare ribs for $14. I do not eat pork so I got these in a separate container. I was disappointed to find out that the fried rice actually has pork in it. It ruined my food since I was unable to eat it but my partner loved his food. We were hungry after visiting the macadamia nut company. So we went on yelp and found this place. The food that we ordered were good. The staff was friendly and service was excellent. The best food! Just got home. This was our first time going to this restaurant. I looked it up on Yelp and thought I would give it a try. So glad we did. All four of us had such a great experience. Not very many people there (which could be good or very bad, Sunday @ 6 pm). The servers and staff were so friendly, kind, and talented. The restaurant is clean! No air conditioning, but we were right by a window. Then the food came out. Wow! I ordered from the first page. Shrimp and vegetables which for $10 came with rice (about $1 more for fried which my family said was amazing) and a small portion of two different flavors of pork. My family ordered the wanton soup, orange chicken, pot stickers, and spring rolls. Everything, I mean everything, was cooked to perfection. My new favorite restaurant! Will go again.
