Google maps directed us to the parking lot for Polo Beach. We weren't sure we were in the right location as you can't easily see the beach from the L shaped lot. There were plenty of spaces when we arrived on a Monday in February around noon. It had rained earlier but we found a table that was dry to eat our lunch. The restroom had toilet paper. We didn't go down onto the beach. Instead we headed north on the beach walk to Wailea Beach. Along the way there were signs about some of the plants. We also passed some magnificent condos which must have had spectacular views. We ended up only walking less that half of the beach walk because the sun came out and we forgot our sun block. If we ever return to Maui, I'd like to do the rest of the beach walk. read more

I went straight to this beach after arriving in Maui as I was waiting go check into my place at 4. They do have free parking that was plenty available, a bathroom and an outside shower to rinse off which is great. There are a ton of roosters running around all over the place too. The beach was just ok for us. I mean, it is Maui..There are so many beautiful places to enjoy and nothing particularly awful, but just wasn't someplace I would go out of my way. I was with my 9 year old and my mother and the beach had large boulders at the wave line. It was making me very nervous. We walked down further from the parking lot and the waves eased up a bit, but the water is not clear at all due to the sand getting mixed with the waves. And then you have the big rocks. The water was not enticing me to go in, and I love the water. read more

There are lots of great beaches in Kihei, but Polo Beach is one of my favorites. Here's why... There is a large parking lot that is FREE to use. It is safer because Wailea security patrols it a lot. It's a great starting point for a walk on the coastal beach path. It has a rest room, showers and picnic tables. It's located at the Fairmont Kea Lani. And, there is shade at the south end, in case you've gotten enough sun. read more

This piece of turf has a fantastic beach for sunning the body, watching sunsets with your special person and whale watching like I am today. We like this beach because there is a lot of parking, the bathrooms are always clean and there are a couple of picnic tables near the bathroom above the beach. We also like it because the Wailea beach path begins/ends here and it's right next to the Fairmont which is probably one of my favorite hotels here on Maui. This beach is a good beach for boogie boarding, body surfing, snorkeling etc and you can usually find a nice open spot for your towel and things. A few important tips: -Bring an umbrella because there aren't many shady spots -Don't forget to use sunscreen. If you are visiting from a cooler region and are not used to being out in the sun that much, this is a must. Use 30+ SPF or you will get sunburnt and sunburns are not fun at all. -If you want get a picnic table, it is best to come early because I think there are only a couple of picnic tables -Lock up your things. Don't leave valuables out like anywhere you go. -There are no lifeguards at this beach so watch your children and those who are not good swimmers. The waves can get really big there. There is one yellow rescue tube at this beach below the bathrooms. They are used to assist swimmers who are in trouble. The tubes have basic rescue instructions and each pole is numbered so emergency callers can report their exact location. Polo is my kids' favorite beach out of the 8 or so we went to on Maui. The waves are fun... Nice long Boogie boarding waves and fun to jump in as well. The north side is busy with all the Fairmont visitors, and the watersport rental outfits on this end also get frustrated with people setting up too close to their stuff. So I'd recommend scrambling over to the south side if you feel able to get around the rocks or down the steep slope. Be careful. But if you can get there it's worth it. read more

Beautiful beach with stunning views! Lots of parking and easily accessed, Polo beach is an a great choice for a beach to relax, swim or spend time with friends and family. There are complimentary BBQ for you to use along next to benches and tables. They are limited so do come early if you plan to use them! Some are shaded and some are tight under be sun and lots of grassy areas. After all the benches, there are stairs that lead you to the beach. If you walk further to the right there will be more flat sand where you can lounge and enjoy the sunshine. Sadly, this beach is located right in front of the Fairmont which makes this beach over crowded especially the weekends. read more

While this beach is a bit busy with mostly tourist (it is located in front of the Fairmont Hotel) I have to say I love coming to this beach. The beach is fairly clean, the sand is sooo soft between your toes, and the water is crystal clear. I suggest bringing an umbrella of your own and a mat or towel to sit on. There is hardly any shade and it tends to get very hot, especially the sand. This beach is very family friendly and a great place to bring the keikis. Just be careful because there is no lifeguard on duty and the waves do get big throughout the day. read more

Polo Beach is the Fairmont/Four Seasons hotel beach. When my wife & I stayed at the Fairmont on Maui a couple of times, I'd start off each morning at this beach and run all the way as far as I could go. The beach is clean and safe. Beach running is one of my all time favorite activities, so anytime we go anywhere tropical, when my wife is still sleeping in the hotel room, I get up early and go running for 1-2 hours. It's a great experience running along any beach in Hawaii with the great views and perfect weather. Note: There are no public restrooms here. You have to use the hotel resort restrooms. read more

My opinion on this beach is the same as Emily's. Wasn't worth a trip and left. Snorkeling wasn't very good and the beach is forgettable.

It was ok. But pretty crowded because of the resorts. If the crowds weren't there, it'd be much better. I preferred Po'olenalena Beach (see my review) which is just down the road: bigger and less crowded. read more

The beach is great but the resort has some rules that are extreme in my opinion. Our family played the game "Bags" quietly on the grass and we were informed that we could not play that game on the grass. After going to the office and pleading my case, they did relent and allowed us to resume our play. The whole experience was quite upsetting! Certainly was not the relaxing time that I and my family were looking for! read more
