I spent two months in Guatemala when I was in graduate school and had an amazing time. One of the most popular restaurants there is Pollo Campero. The people love their fried chicken, and I thought that it was even better than KFC. Well, when we first moved to Atlanta they had a location in Roswell. It closed many years ago. When I was driving through Marietta, I was shocked to see another Pollo Campero location, so I had to stop and try the food. When I was placing my order, I told the cashier that I had eaten at their restaurant in Antigua, Guatemala. She looked surprised, and she told me that she was originally from Guatemala. She also told me that she preferred the food back home. So, if you're looking to try something a little different, stop by the Pollo Campero in Marietta. The chicken is good and different from the competition. They also have some unique side dishes, such as fried plantains. They also offer a cinnamon horchata drink. The employees are friendly and the food is good, but it doesn't taste exactly like the fried chicken in Guatemala. If you ever want to try the real deal, plan a trip to Guatemala someday. You'll discover wonderful people, food, language and culture.

Another delicious chicken spot. Located off of Cobb Parkway, Pollo Campero is now open for dine-in. Don't want to eat in, then do the drive-thru or take it to go. The staff is friendly, the place is clean, and plenty of tables. Stop in and give it a try!

Grilled chicken to the left, fried chicken on the right. Both are great.

The fried chicken is excellent and so are the sides. However I will say that the prices are a little ridiculous. They are even higher than the picture posted of the menu. Apparently they have increased the prices since that photo. Drinks are not included with the meal. I have to deduct stars for the price.

As a first generation Cuban-American born and raised in Miami and married to a Cuban man, I am happy to report that Cuban Diner is the real deal. This is authentic Cuban food that is as good as the Cuban food easily found all over Miami. We started with croquetas and mariquitas. I ordered the bistec empanizado, hubby ordered the vaca frita, my son ordered the ropa vieja, my MIL orders the palomilla, and my FIL ordered a papa rellena and tamal along with a natural guava juice. We all shared bites of our plates with each other and everyone agreed that everything was absolutely delicious. My favorite was the vaca frita, so I stole a good bit from hubby and I also loved my FIL's guava juice. Service was good, but we got there shortly after opening so we had the place to ourselves. We noticed as it got busier, service definitely slowed considerably, but there was only one server for the whole place and one more handling to go orders. The one server did a fantastic job despite being the only one for multiple tables, but I did notice one couple left in frustration when they were not attended in a timely manner. I loved that they offer a total of 3 sides with the entrees, so you don't have to compromise on sides. I really enjoyed our meal and will be back to try more things on their menu soon. I definitely recommend Cuban Diner, but urge you to pack your patience if you go when there is a crowd. The good news is that the food will be well worth the wait!

We didn't really need it since the restaurant was pretty empty, but we were a bigger group and didn't want to risk it. The hostess didn't confirm our reservation until about 10 mins prior, which was quite concerning, but everything worked out at the end anyway. Our server was wonderful! It was our first time here and he explained their background and what his favorites were on the menu. We for sure wanted to try the paella, so went ahead and ordered that first, with the carretillero ceviche, mixed empanadas (chicken and beef) and patatas bravos to start. The ceviche was delicious and fresh. Loved the fried calamari and all the toppings it was served with. The empanadas were also delicious and was served with a very spicy sauce! The patatas braves had a nice, smoky flavor. Now for entree, I ordered the veggie chaufa. Our server may have been a little biased as he preferred the Peruvian side of the menu, more so than the Cuban side. My dish was easily good for 2-3 people. It had tons of veggies and scrambled egg, plus served with a side of fried plantains. Our group ordered a bunch of other dishes and tried some of them. The churrasco steak was a little chewy but loved the chimichurri it was served with. The parrillada de mariscos was so good too, and my personal fave was the grilled octopus! Personally, I would opt for this instead of the valenciana paella. You essentially get the same types of seafood. I love that we got to dine at this hidden gem! We truly enjoyed our experience and will be back for sure.

The speed was super quick from sitting down to leaving so if that's what you're after then this could be a great option for you, for us however, we just felt rushed. From sitting down to signing the check it was 40 minutes and that's with an appetizer included. Unfortunately the food just wasn't what we were looking for. While I did provide a unique taste, neither of us really enjoyed our food and left wanting something different. We both had different versions of the saltado and shared the plantains. The saltado was ok and the plantains seemed a little undercooked. All in all, I think if you're after Peruvian flavors and have a dish in mind then the Freakin Incan could be a great stop for you, but it just seemed to miss the mark for us.
