The inside is clean and inviting, and the staff are friendly, so the service is good. The food is just okay at best though. I got the fried nuggets which were juicy, but the crunch was meh. The grilled chicken was also pretty juicy, but seasoning wasn't that impressive and the skin didn't have much crisp, felt a little stale. Terrible time at this location .We recently returned from Guatemala and I was excited to see a Pollo Campero here in the DFW area. Our chicken sandwich and Camperitos were cold and tasted old. The flavor was nothing like the restaurant in Guatemala that I was expecting. My bun in my sandwich was burnt. How they burnt the bun but the chicken was cold I didn't understand. Service was fast but they just kept telling us they were out of everything we tried to order. So that's why we settled for the sandwich and some nuggets. I did ask when they would have the items back and was informed "Oh we have them now but we don't want to cook any." It was about 5:15 pm so dinner time. I don't recommend going here. read more

I hate there have been a lot of negative reviews here! This is one of the most consistent fast food spots in the area. I'm back on my health kick and the fact they have a decent selection to keep this waist right is a huge plus in my book! My usual order: Grilled chicken- side salad and corn salad. Beans or rice when I can bulk up on the calories. The corn salad can be a hit or miss. Salad is fresh EACH and every time which is very rare for fast food spots. I've had causal restaurants who didn't deliver with salad freshness. Major kudos to this location. The beans are flavorful and the rice is your typical rice. Now onto the citrus grilled chicken! The birds are seasoned quite well and if you're looking for the juicier picks....select the dark meat (duh!) I love how it has an authentic on the grill taste. Being lazy yesterday I ventured to this fine establishment for grilled chicken. Here's what happened... Hit the drive thru peeped out the menu... Nothing fancy a few sapphire menu items that peaked my interest. I ordered the half chicken grilled with Plantains and Campero rice, tortillas and a horchata. $13 bucks later... Ummm well I received fried instead of grilled... no sour cream with my Plantains ( as advertised and I requested salsa for the chicken I received ketchup. I always like to try new fast food places out that we don't have in Austin, and I happened upon this place near out hotel. Pollo Campero serves up some tasty fried chicken (that's their specialty not grilled). I have no idea what they use to marinate the bird, but it sure is good stuff, maybe citrus? It's extra crispy style, chicken was moist, high quality. Street corn side was excellent. Overall, if you're in the mood for fried, I recommend checking this place out, at least this location. read more

You can choose between a dinner roll and tortillas, and a variety of sides uncommon to it's competitors ie., plantains; yucca fries...neither of which I tried, since I did not notice in a timely manner. I also failed to realize that they served horchata(!!) here too before I placed my order of chicken strips, fries, and corn tortillas. Service was good for a fast food place; someone checked on us a couple times. Costs about the same as Chicken E, but this place has tacos 'n burritos 'n sh**. I liked the flavor of the chicken, but it was a scrawny chicken with little meat to be had. This combo came with a drink. I don't do high fructose corn syrup so my only option was the machine dispensed "Gold Peak" unsweetened tea. It was gross- I dumped the whole thing in the trash. Small salsa bar but good salsa. In summation, they need to seriously up their game. Pollo Reggio has much larger chicken pieces- as does about anyone else. Get some real brewed iced tea in there. This is were I go for my Latin Caribbean quick foodie fix. The Black Beans and Campero Rice combined have become a comforting homefood dish for me. You can't find either in Belize (red beans and white rice), but they still taste like home. My daughter (the carnivore :-) very much likes the chicken; both fried (light, crisp coating) and grilled. The cole slaw has too much mayo for her and me, but the fried ripe plantains are great. The fried yucca is excellent, always piping hot; perfect from crunchy outside to soft center! I'm a carnivore, and as such I devour all meat. ALL MEAT--be it red, white or gray (don't laugh, we've all had the gray). But, I do usually prefer the reds. I always pass by the Pollo Campero billboards on my way to school and end up swerving a bit on I-30 because I'm squinting my eyes to see the tasty ad. I couldn't take anymore teasing yesterday and decided to fulfill my needs so instead of heading towards class I exited and pulled up to their drive thru. The chicken on their menu looks REALLY good but I didn't want to roll up to class full and fall asleep (not to mention late) so I opted for one chicken crisp (they looked like little egg rolls for $.99), a grilled chicken wrap ($1.99), and a regular sized horchata ($1.69). I had to wait for a good 5 minutes for my food but I didn't mind because I was hoping everything was prepared fresh. Everything came out correctly and wow did this end up being a lot of food! My wrap was huge (about 2x the size of McDonald's' wraps) and stuffed with rice, pico di gallo and marinated grilled chicken with a hint of extra lime sprinkled over. It was yummy in my tummy kind of goodness. My chicken crisper was FREAKIN huge, I wanted to take a picture of me holding it against my face so you guys can see the comparison but I had to drive (boo). It had semi-spicy marinated chicken and different types of melted cheese in this fried tortilla and came with a side of cilantro ranch. This was definitely lacking some chicken but for only 99 cents I wasn't going to complain! I washed everything down with my cold and sweet horchata. I may have been late to class but my tummy and I were as happy as can be (I did end up falling asleep in my second class though!). First tasted the chicken here at the Yelp Holiday Affair event and it was so delicious. Came around 2 pm which appeared to be prime lunch time. We waited around 15 min for our food. I got two pieces of breast and a side of rice. My friend got 4 pieces, beans and rice. He rated his meal a 3.5/5. Food is pretty decent. My only complaint is make sure they hear you clearly on specifications regarding your order. For example, I asked for no cheese and corn tortillas on my chicken tacos. I get flour tortillas with cheese on my chicken tacos. After checking my food while in the drive thru, I told the cashier to correct it and she told me to pull around front. It took about 12 minutes to get through drive through and wait for my corrected food. I would have enjoyed the chicken tacos more if they had got it right. Even after they corrected my tacos, I got chicken tacos, no cheese in flour tortillas but I was in a rush and too tired for the back and forth/waiting game with the cashier lady who brought my food out to me. Plus, she had rushed off by the time I popped open the container to see if they got my order right. The empanadas were interesting, not in a good way. They didn't taste terrible but I wasn't ready for the "mushy/creamy" texture of the chicken empanada. Taste-wise it was good but first bite, the creaminess threw me off. I used the check-in offer which is 1 free chicken thigh. It was good until I got past the skin. The chicken by itself was rather bland but tasted better with the sweet chipotle dipping sauce. I literally used the sweet chipotle dipping sauce on everything I ordered: the chicken tacos, the Campero rice side, the empanada and my chicken. The sprite tasted more like a flat 7-Up. If I am ever in the Cockrell Hill Road/IH-30 area, I will stick to KFC right across the street. Most of their menu is centered around fried chicken which is lightly breaded and seasoned. It actually left me wanting more flavor.
