Catfish dinner. Not seasoned.
Terry J.

I've heard of this place on Facebook and my people on the east side tell me about this place, so I figured I'd give it a chance. To be fair, I ate four separate dinners across four different times to check for consistency, in both food quality and customer service. So I'll list the good points: 1. The portions on some of the dinners are good. (The wings dinner, the rib dinner, the whole catfish dinner were slightly under whelming portion wise). The Catfish filet dinner was a good size as well as 3 piece fried chicken dinner and the jambalaya dinner were nice portion size. 2. The cookies are the best dessert they have hands down. If they have snickerdoodle or chocolate chip cookies, get those. 3. They have a huge variety of things to chose from. Now for the bad points: 1. Don't get anything fried. It's not seasoned, it sits under heat lamps (they fry a lot up in advance) and what you get is often cold and greasy by the time u get home. I've had the fried lobster tail (tough and cold), the fried chicken (greasy, no seasoning), the catfish filets ( not seasoned, but ok), and the whole catfish ( no meat, mostly skin and all grease). Fry up smaller batches at a time, change the grease when needed (DAILY) and fry seafood to order as it dries out faster than pork or chicken. 2. The cakes would be better if they were kept refrigerated and not on top of the heat lamps. Every cake slice I had, while ok, were dry due to being on the top of the heat lamps. 3. If a customer asks for a sauce or gravy on the side it should not be rocket science or a political drama. You have cups you serve kool aid in, put the gravy in that. That's common sense. Acting like you have no clue to get a cup and down and put gravy in it is ridiculous, and poor customer service. I wish them the best, but for the prices of the meals ($17 to $22 each), you're better off spending the money elsewhere.

Oxtail, collard greens, cabbage and mac&cheese

I truly enjoyed this little gem. My cousin and I had a taste for a little soul food after a visit to OKC for a fashion show and Polks House didn't disappoint. I got the oxtail dinner with collard greens, macaroni and cheese & cabbage. The flavors danced on my tongue and gave me a feeling of sheer pleasurable joy‼ I will definitely make them part of my OKC trip routine going forward.

This really a hole in the wall kinda place. No fine dining and only enough room for 2 people to enter at time. With that being said the food is phenomenal!!! I wasn't sure about this place. I arrived at 5pm and was told they didn't open until 6pm on Saturday. I came back at 6:55pm and the door was still locked. He said we open in 5 min. So, I decided to wait. I'm so glad I did. As soon as I entered I recognized the place was very small and no sitting inside. Even in spite of Covid I can only imagine 2 people at a time in the space. The server greeted me promptly and was very friendly! She described menu and prices and was very patient in the process. The food looked and smelled delicious and the strawberry swirl cake my new favorite. I couldn't wait to eat so I ate in car. I was a happy camper. This place is a hidden gem located on the east side right on the corner of lottie and 23rd. I'm a fan!! I will be back!!!

Salmon croquettes, mashed potatoes and green beans.

This place was really good. If you enjoy soul/comfort food then give it a try. The wings and cabbage were my favorite things I tried!

The food is amazing, you get more than your money's worth. It's like having Sunday dinner without the cleanup. Everything is always fresh.

All secondary roads are still snow packed so at 11:30 there was only one other couple in the restrauant. The Press is in an old (1920's ?) repourposed building. The interior is comfortable, charming and a bit whimsical. We started with an order of cheese sticks. They were very good and large. I liked that the cheese sticks did not have Italian seasoning in the breading. Jan ordered the chicken fried ribeye with mashed potatoes, cream gravey and green beans. Jan loved it. I took a bite of the chicken fried steak and it was excellent. The green beans were very good. They were loaded with garlic, which I love, but if you're not a garlic fan, I would suggest another side. I ordered the grilled chicked sandwich with waffle fries. The sandwich was good and the waffle fries were excellent. The portions are large and the food quality excellent. The prices reasonable. The menu has variety. You can't go wrong by dining at The Press.

I've been here twice and each time leaves me looking forward to my next visit. Adriana was our server last time and did an amazing job. My friends chose the Press Cobb and Breakfast Bomb. They were both very pleased and stated there was many options on the menu they would be interested in trying.

The patio space in the front was very secluded and lush, we had it entirely to ourselves. Our waitress was absolutely amazing. They even brought out a water bowl with ice for our pups. We loved our drinks. My espresso martini was boozy and not too sweet with a love whipped topping on top. Her Road to Hana was very refreshing and the pineapple tajin garnish hit the spot. Quick shout out to the dinner rolls and butter. I was starving so this held me over while our shareables came out. The Spicy Caesar was nice, loved the hit of heat that came with it. The Chicken Pepperjack Strudel, a signature dish, was really really good. Just wish it was warmer in the center but yea definitely order this. Juan's queso is not a typical queso dish. First, it's real cheese and it comes with a black bean puree, salsa verde, and avocado thinly sliced on top. We loved it, especially my wife. If you're in search of a higher end dining experience in OKC, Cheever's is a must.

I came here with a large group of about 8 of us with a reservation made early on. We were seated in a nice, private room and had an overall very lovely experience! First of all, our server Trey was just spot on with all of his recommendations. He recommended the crab cakes, the halibut, and anything that came with the spicy shrimp risotto. Our table got crab cakes to start, and this was probably my favorite dish of the evening! The crab cake was large, fluffy, and full of lump crab topped with a spicy and delicious salsa verde and pico. For the entree I ordered the halibut which was cooked well, but the side of spicy shrimp risotto definitely stole the show (as Trey accurately predicted). Most of our party ordered this and everyone was pretty happy with it! For dessert, our table shared chocolate cake and the coconut creme pie. The chocolate cake was very rich and was probably one of the best chocolate cakes I've had, and I'm not a big chocolate cake person. I still definitely preferred the coconut creme pie, which I would order again next time! Our service was fantastic for the evening, and when Trey tells you to order something, trust him and do it!

It's small inside and a bit crowded. We were sat down quickly in the corner of the restaurant and it was a little hard to get to the booth side (couple of us are plus size so we sat on the chair side and let the smaller ones sit on the booth side). Our server was nice but a little discombobulated. I think she may have been overwhelmed by all the people and was very forgetful. We got our food rather quickly. Our server kept forgetting items in our order and had to make multiple trips to get them. The dinner rolls were big and good according to my table who enjoyed all of them. I got a 1/2 lb mushroom Swiss burger without the bun and a side salad. My burger was dry and unremarkable for the price. One of my people got the catfish and said that it was delicious. He really enjoyed it with the green beans. Another got the chicken fried steak and had a similar reaction as my burger. It was dry and the gravy didn't really help save it. The last person in our group got the pancakes and really enjoyed them. Overall, it was alright but probably won't go back for anything except the rolls. I think I expected more for my over $80 experience.
