Got the Nashville hot chicken basket. Honestly wasn't sure what to expect, but it hit the spot. The coating was crispy and the chicken itself wasn't dry, which is usually my concern with fried chicken places. The heat was there, real kick, but it didn't linger in an uncomfortable way. I got the Nashville chicken basket (asked for lower heat) and my husband got the honey bee. The Nashville was so delicious and the sauce bled on to the fries and it was wonderful. I had it with bleu cheese and ranch. The only thing I would change is to have more sauce or extra hot sauce on the side. The honey bee was good too, my husband really liked it. I definitely preferred the Nashville chicken. We got a sample of their seasonal ginger pumpkin Banana pudding and it was great as well! Chef Ray's Street Eats (CRSE) had been in my bookmarks for years, but something always prevented me from trying the food. I'd kinda resigned to the fact that it wasn't going to happen, but then they showed up at my work, and at that point, it felt like I had an obligation to give it a go, you know? Now when you hear that a $10 "basket" includes three chicken tenders, fries, and a piece of bread, you're likely to think that it doesn't sound like much. I know I thought that. But these aren't some piddling, mingy, rat tails à la Raising Cane's. These tenders are plump, juicy, and possibly full of growth hormones with how wonderfully large they are (I don't curr, gimme my fat chicken tenders). They're not overly breaded either; there's a nice balance of crunchy breading and tender white meat. And then you get the sauce on top and it's... ::pantomimes head esplode:: The chicken tenders are the meaty vessels, but the different sauce options do most of the flavor-work. Even the small aspects about CRSE's food is impressive. The fries have this... slight bit of sweetness (something is sprinkled on them maybe?) where I'm fairly certain I'm imagining it, but I'm appreciative that if I'm going crazy, that my craziness is making the food taste better. And the little pickle slices as a sweet garnish makes me wish that they'd give more. The homemade ranch is also quite delicious. Really lookin' forward to trying the Bang Bang sauce next time. I can't think of a single thing to complain about it. Which is weird, because I do like to complain. Oh right, so their Instagram will sometimes show sandwiches, but I guess they're specials? I was at Parlor with my family and decided to try this place because I was interested in the Nashville hot chicken. The employee who helped me said that I could order a spice level of 3, 5, 7, or 10. I chose 5, and that was right for me. It was hot enough to keep my mouth warm but not anything that made run around in a panic looking for milk. The piece of Texas toast served with the jumbo tenders was just the right thing to keep the spice off my hands - very important when you're eating Nashville hot chicken. The fries served with my Nashville hot chicken tenders were cooked the way I like them - crunchy but not greasy with a little bit of skin on them. The only two things I did not like about this place are the lack of smaller portions and the way that they added the Nashville spice. First, I don't mind taking home leftover tenders, but if I were here just by myself on a business lunch, I would rather have the option to order one or two jumbo tenders with a smaller portion of fries for a lower price. My meal came with three jumbo tenders and enough fries for two people. I also didn't like how they applied the Nashville hot seasoning. They sprinkled it on one side of the tenders but not the other. If I return, I will ask them to sprinkle it generously on both sides. That will add some more seasoning to the fries as an added bonus. read more

Rays chicken kitchen is located in the "Parlor" just east of Broadway on 6th street. Their bistro is on the upper level. We ordered the Nashville hot chicken and were treated to the best chicken tenders we've ever had. Unbelievably good, super tender, with just the right amount of heat. You can choose from several heat levels, being wimps we chose the mildest. There were a lot of other chicken dishes we wanted to try from the menu so Rays will be a definite return trip. Chef Ray's was at the Norman Music Festival and always had a line. Though they cook everything fresh, the line moved very fast. Not only are they fast, the family running the truck are very friendly. Chicken strips were big and cooked wonderfully crispy on the outside, had just enough breading, inside tender..Not as juicy as some but still very good. Plate it was priced fairly at $10, came with fries and a slice of white bread. Fries were fresh cut with skin on, very oily but not enough to pool, and limp which I usually abhor..but, they were surprisingly tasty cooked in the peanut oil, addictive even. There was no bottle of ketchup provided and the two cups of sauces were only half full, barely enough for the chicken. Plus they used to include cole slaw and pickle slices which was a nice touch. I didn't try their famous Nashville hot chicken this time around, nor their chicken and waffles which has been on TV I believe. But their basic fried chicken basket is very good. We were a little skeptical about this being a non-traditional type of catering for a wedding, but we wanted to give our daughter the experience she chose for her wedding. She chose well.
