I have only dealt with Polkadot Bakery online as I live in a remote location. My chiweenie and my two granddogs who live next door (a pittie mix and a very large hound) all love the rolled dried cod skins. I order the 2lb package every 2-3 months and it is always delivered extraordinarily quickly. I recently re-ordered, but when I received the credit card authorization, I realized I had accidentally ordered about 8 extra items. I immediately texted to ask to have the merchandise removed. I had barely finished closing my laptop when I received credit for what I had accidentally ordered. That is customer support at a level rarely seen! I had a negative experience in the Chestnut Hill store with a very unprofessional sales person. When I called the Jamaica Plain store to notify them of this person's behavior, the manager was quite apologetic and offered to send me something for my troubles. I did not ask for it, but it was offered. That conversation happened on November 13, and I've received nothing in the mail. I find that very unprofessional, and I would not recommend shopping here. read more

The store has so much to choose from! It is a dog's heaven! If your dog is one to grab things fast, keep your eyes on him or a VERY short leash because there are lots of treats at their level! They had so many things to choose from for both dogs and cats. Lots of toys, treats, food, leashes and collars. They were reasonably priced and in a great area. We will definitely be back! read more

I've been coming here for years, and while the merchandise is good, the people who work here are useless. The whole point of a brick and mortar pet store is that it's a place to bring your dog, and I am more than willing to pay a premium for that experience. Today. I walked in with my Lhasa Apso puppy, and we were virtually ignored by the two young ladies working in the store. No treats... no interest in the pup. I could have walked in with a brick on a leash. We struggled to find a harness that fit the pup, and we received absolutely no input from them whatsoever. It should be a place the pet wants to visit. Reluctantly, I did make a purchase, but it was essentially self-service. Today, we were totally ignored, and if that's the case, I'll take my business to Boston Barkery, where I've found the employees much more welcoming. read more

This was usually my go to spot to grab food and treats for my dog, but I will be rethinking that after my past experience. While checking out Saturday afternoon, I was having a conversation with the two young employees at the register when a older lady bursts in midsentence, pushes past me and starts complaining about whatever. Instead of employees finishing my transaction since I was MY turn, they ignore me and both start tending to the rude/entitled Karen. After a minute I realize I'm not being served anymore so I walk out. As a women of color it felt like a slap in the face and your employees need to do better going forward. read more

Absolutely a must if you have pets! I go to the Chestnut Hill store & the staff is unfailingly helpful, friendly & knowledgeable! They carry out my huge bag of Origen ( best dog food ever!) to my car every time! I have two dogs & buy the biggest sz even though they are tiny dogs( BICHON FRISÉE & SHORKY) . I am being treated at Dana Farber Institute ( best hospital anywhere) plus fell on top of it so can't lift! Each time they say "I WILL CARRY THUS OUT TO THE CAR FOR YOU & DO!!" May I add that they have carried my many pkgs out in torrential rain without blinking an eye! I was parked way down by Legal Seafoods but they happily declared "NO PROBLEM!" I was astounded at their "can do attitudes, their knowledge on all their products ( smart move for I have gone into other pet food stores, asked a question about a product they are carrying, "even in their department to add insult to injury ) and been met with a blank stare or "I don't know!" Smart to have staff research or be knowledgeable about anything in their store, as this company seems to be! Their fresh homemade snacks for dogs are amazing( my dogs love the sweet potatoes & chicken teriyaki while the duck flavored snacks that I buy for my next door neighbor's dog Bella, is their favorite! They have everything here though as well as cute dog toys in different sizes( bought their stuffed lobster & crab for our "LORENZO"( Shorky),"GRACIE"( BICHON) & BELLA( Cavalier Spaniel) " BELLA", my neighbor's dog! This amazing place has it all and I wouldn't think of going anywhere else for my "fur babies needs!" This is a solid pet shop (focused on dogs and cats), but the staff is really nice, and they've got a good selection of toys, treats, and pet care items. Polka Dog offers their own treats and the location is perfect for those of us who can't do a bit of shopping without feeling like we'd be doing our best buds a disservice if we didn't bring something home for them, too. With prices that are fair for a boutique shop and such nice staff, there's no reason to think we won't be here often (or at least as often as we make it to this part of town!). read more

This is the BEST pet store around, by far! I have to bribe my dog with a piece of chicken jerky to get him to leave the store. He absolutely loves this place! He loves the treats, and the staff. Roger and Sarah are his favorites, and mine as well. They both are EXTREMELY knowledgeable on the products the store carries, and wont just try to sell you the most expensive food in the store. They've always listened to my concerns with my dogs eating habits, flavor preference, and activity level and recommended a GREAT product! My senior dog has always been a finicky eater and he would just pick at his food all day long. With the new food that was recommended to me from Polka Dog, he eats his ENTIRE bowl IMMEDIATELY. Polka Dog has a WIDE & unique variety of food and treats. Roger & Sarah are also very friendly, professional, polite & personable. I am a frequent shopper, and they always remember our names. (Mine and my dog) which is a nice personal touch. (which you don't get much anymore....at least in the Greater Boston area) Occasionally when my dogs food is out of stock, they always tell me when it is expected back in store, offer to call another location to see if it is in stock (and will have it sent to the Chestnut Hill store, if so) and will save a bag in the back once it is available again. Plus, they spoil my dog when he comes in! (But always ask first if it is O.K. to give him a few treats, which I appreciate!) They have done countless other favors for me as well! Great place to spoil your pup! Keep in mind: the stuff isn't cheap. If you're like me and you spend about 5X more money on your dog than on yourself, then you will likely get very carried away in this store. That being said, the treat selection is exceptional! Exotic jerkies and bones and basically anything your dog could ever desire. Very cute toys, good quality leashes and collars. The staff was very kind and generous. They gave my dog about 1/3 of a cod skin when he walked in, and they gave him a few pieces of chicken jerky as we were cashing out. I will definitely return for future "special occasions" like birthdays and anniversaries. Another bonus - readily available parking. The Street shopping center has a good amount of parking in the back. We went on a rainy Saturday evening and didn't have any issues finding a spot. read more

I am a sucker for most things pup related, so when we stumbled upon this location while we were at The Container Store, I had to go in (my little one is always in need of more treats). What a cute little store! They have items for dogs and cats, and a great selection of foods, bones, treats, accessories, harnesses, etc... They truly had most things that a pet owner would need. The staff was super helpful and nice, and it created an experience that would keep me coming back for my pup-related needs. It's a great spot to pick up gifts for friends with furry ones as well. Short version: My BFF's Frenchie has brain cancer, we spent 2 hours trying to get him to eat his meds with different foods, nothing was working until she thought to give him a treat with one of the pills - it was the 1st thing in 2 hrs that he wanted & ate the pill with, then the other pill & wanted more. She remembered she got them from you over an hour away over 14 months ago !!! She called you & explained, asked if you could fedex them asap as she was almost out & wouldn't have them for tomorrow - YOU DROVE THEM TO HER THAT NIGHT !!!! Love Polkadog! The staff are super friendly and always give my dog a treat. They're very knowledgeable and the selection is great-everything from unique toys and handmade treats to the basics of pet supplies like paw protector balm and leashes. This location is also perfect for summer because we can bring the dog to get some goodies then sit outside and eat at Shake Shack next door. The treats aren't inexpensive, but you're paying for actual ingredients and they last a long time. Our dog goes crazy for them. Worth it for the quality and to support a local business. read more

I'm at Polka Dog waaaaay too often. I live more or less across the street from "The Street" shopping center where Polka Dog is, and every time I put the leashes on my french bulldogs they try to pull me there. I give in about three times a week, even though I have enough Polka Dog treats stocked up at my house that if they ran low on inventory they could call me up to restock. My boys go absolutely nuts for their treats. For one of them (Yoda) that doesn't mean much, as he'll eat wood chips, but Wilbur can be a tough customer and he would sell me down the river for their yogurt drops. I also do rescue and usually have one or two foster frenchies during the course of the year. A lot of these dogs have food allergies--really serious food allergies. I never have to worry at Polka Dog because their treats come in many different kinds of protein sources and/or are grain free. So, I always know I can find a weird ingredient special treat for my more sensitive foster dogs. Plus, all their treats are of the highest quality, so I'm not feeding them "fake" food. Polka Dog also carries a wide range of the highest quality dog foods (both regular and raw) for dogs that might have any kind of food sensitivity. But the best part, hands down, is the staff. Roger and Corey: you know I love you guys to the moon and back. I met Indigo a few weeks ago (she used to work at the JP location) and she is so personable and nice. We had the best chat the other week while the store was slow; plus she knows her stuff. Besides the fact that these are some of the friendliest, kindliest, dog loving people you could ever hope to meet, they also know what's what when it comes to everything and anything they sell at the store, and about dogs in general. Also, they make it rain cookies--probably why I'm dragged there all the time by Yoda and Wilbur. But I love going, too. Everyone who works there is A+. I have a good time, my boys have a good time, I don't even care how much money I spend there because it's that great of a place. And when Roger calls me "Darlin'" (he calls everyone darlin', I know I'm not that special...) I have a good day the rest of the day. Thanks for being the best, guys. Probably see y'all tomorrow. This place has wonderful natural dog treats and food and I go there once a month to purchase some unique tasty snacks for my dog in the bulk section.
