When we were bringing our pet here it was fine but ever since a few people last year have left it has gone downhill. I've even been here when the owner was here and the facility was still being neglected. Not only that but after speaking with employees and seeing some of the reviews online it seems that the owner will try to get peoples claims basically denied as if they're untrue. there is one post here that says a persons dog was denied because of their breed the owner straight up lied I've seen you guys take boxers without any problem. Ian and staff are very thoughtful and have the best interest of the dogs in their care at heart. Great communication through the app and over email. The staff always sent one update through the app each time my dog stayed with them. This is a great daycare for dogs who love to play with other dogs. It's a pretty stimulating environment for dogs, and Ian acknowledged that. My dog did daycare there and boarded with them for a few nights. I would describe my lil dude as pretty human oriented, has separation anxiety, and fancies himself to be an escape artist. The staff always made sure to give him some special attention and managed him in a way that prevented him from jumping barriers during pick up. Honestly, he can sometimes be a PITA and wants all the human attention. I think that can be pretty disruptive at a dog day care (sorry Ian and staff!) Regardless, I was most impressed with Diamond (I think that's her name) is super professional and compassionate. She warmly greeted my dog (and I!) every time we came in when she was working and seemed to figure out the quirks of my pup. TL;DR- BDW is a thoughtful, safe dog daycare. Keep in mind not all dogs might love a dog day care environment. However, give Big Dog Walkin' a try, especially if your dog loves playing with other pups. Despite the name, they have absolutely NO idea how to care or handle Big Dogs. My senior Great Dane had a horrific time while in their care, so much so he had to be picked up early. They would not let him out when he needed to and took no responsibility when he had an accident due to anxiety produced by their mishandling and lack of knowledge of my dogs breed and age. They were sure to iterate that the issue was with my dog and not their lack of understanding and undertrained staff. They also do not permit "walk throughs" of the facility to see how or where the dogs are kept. I left my dog to board recently and when I returned a week later he was not the same, rather he had lost nearly 4lbs, did not receive all of his medicine and was withdrawn. He had feces all over his tail area and did not recognize when I picked him up. Every night when I was away I received the same generic email that he was eating and doing fine. I spent $600 at the vet on Sunday and got 4 new prescriptions. My dog has been going to daycare here since January, so it is not like the establishment was new to him. All our neighbors commented how he is just not the same. I just want people to know our story when making any decision about whom to entrust their dogs. I hope in time that my boy will regain his strength and confidence and that sparkle on his eye. read more

If I could rate this no stars, I would. I feel bad for the employees who will be impacted by negative reviews. They were all great. Terrible experience with the owner, our dog was nipped at three times upon pickup/drop off. The manager saw this happen, multiple dogs got out from behind the gate separating them where the desk is. The last time this happened was when our dog was nipped on his hind leg and it resulted in a 3" laceration, he was sent home without it being noticed. He required a trip to the ER and stitches. It was (after all) captured on video and shared with us. He did nothing wrong, was jumping and bit from behind. Given all of this, we asked to be refunded for the days we had prepaid for, the three days he was nipped at and the cost of the ER. We were told we would not be reimbursed for the days he had been nipped at and not the day of the laceration because it happened too late in the day to refund.... The mere dismissal of what happened and the passive aggressive responses received from management was just beyond belief. read more

We've seen photos of her playing and of her napping during the fun filled day here! She's about 1 year and 3 months old now & she's been going here since she was about 6 months, 2x per week. I used big dog walking for day care services from January 2019 to December 2019. I don't usually like to leave bad reviews, but after multiple issues with their customer service I would strongly suggest you choose another day care. My dog has caught kennel cough, papillomas, and has been sent home throwing up (something that has never happened while I watched her). My dog socializes with only one or two others outside of BDW, so these issues all very likely came from day care. After a rate increase midway through the year I took to purchasing packages for a discount. When my dog became sick I was not allowed to bring her to day care and the package expired before I finally got clear from my vet. I brought this fact up to multiple people behind the desk and was told that I would likely be able to be re-imbursed. Fast forward through many conversations that didn't go anywhere, I reached out to a manager directly and was rejected. That was about ~80 dollars in daycare down the drain. The final incident that broke me was the complete lack of empathy I experienced during the first time I was late to pick up my dog. In hopes of using the last of my package I treated my dog to a Saturday of daycare. Turns out they close two hours early on the weekends, and when I showed up to pick up my puppy the place was closed. I had no phone calls from their office, no emails, or messages from the usual message portal they normally use to communicate. I had zero information about where my dog was and spent the entire night worried that someone else had somehow taken her home. It was one of the most horrible feelings I've had in dog ownership. In the morning I went to pick up my dog and it was explained to me that they had tried to call me once from a foreign area code (I had tried to reach out to this number, they had no voice mail set up and did not pick up their phone). The manager on duty said that no matter if they had reached me at 6:00 pm I would have been too late to get my dog, which contradicts their policy online stating that there will be a fee & they will try and contact the owner for up to 30 minutes. After a year of bringing my dog there nearly twice a week and a night of complete torment, the exchange was over with essentially an "Oops, well heres your dog now so we're good right?" I think 1 out of 5 stars is fitting, the front desk people were always friendly and the hours are nice. Their customer service however is hands down the worst I've ever experienced. Save yourself the heartache I went through and try one of the other options in the area. read more

Owners of the Lost Dog The morning of April 26th my girlfriend Olivia and I dropped off our year and a half old dog Maya at Big Dog Walkin. I went to pick her up at 1pm and was greeted with "Hi. Uhhh, we have a bit of a situation, Maya has gotten loose. But don't worry we have people out there right now looking for her!". This was the first time I was being notified of the incident as I was not contacted when it occurred. I can only assume this is because the staff hoped to find and return her to daycare before I arrived so they could act as if nothing even happened. Upon hearing the news about our missing girl, Olivia and I immediately took to every social media platform, contacted every local authority, animal control, printed and hung fliers over a 5-mile radius, and coordinated a search party of family and friends. What did Big Dog Walkin do? Absolutely nothing. They claimed to have filed a report with the police, but when we called to see if there had been any updates or sightings of Maya no such report had even been filed. The staff said they had been hanging fliers and organizing search parties of their own, but we never saw a single flier or met a single staff member during our search for Maya. Maya was missing for a full 24 hours. She spent the night wandering the streets alone, in the rain, and scared. Olivia and I searched all night for her. Big Dog Walkin stopped "looking" as soon as their last staff member left at 7:15 PM. The only reason we were eventually able to recover her was due to the tremendous support of the Brookline and Brighton communities, our families and friends, and the local police departments. After finally returning home with Maya, we received an "apology" from the owner of the daycare. He blamed Maya for the incident, failed to take any accountability for the sheer uselessness of his staff, and even had the audacity to ask us to come back as customers. Our account with Big Dog Walkin was then deactivated without our knowledge. I have archived my correspondence with the owner and am happy to share it with anyone who is interested. Please feel free to reach out to me directly. Olivia and I had to take Maya to the emergency clinic to treat the injuries she sustained while being lost. Her paws were raw and blistered, and her nails had been ground down to the quick from running for 24 hours straight on the hard concrete sidewalks of Brookline. Did Big Dog Walkin offer to pay the vet bill? No. They did however offer us a free bath and nail trimming. What's even worse is that this isn't the first dog they have lost! I beg you, please do not send your dog here. The staff are incompetent, and the owner could not care less about your pet. This is the worst daycare I have ever encountered and the best thing they could do is close their doors to remove any possibility of something like this happening to another dog owner. read more

TLDR: Pressure from owner to remove critical reviews before bringing our dog back. We had been taking our dog to Big Dog Walkin' for a while both for some daycare and overnight stays. Everything was fine until I received a call while our dog was at daycare that she was acting a little more "aggressively towards other dogs" than usual. Instead of maybe separating her from the other dogs and letting us know about the issue, they told us the only option was for us to come pick her up during the middle of the day. We got conflicting reports from staff about what happened and we ended up leaving a critical review because we were forced to come pick her up in the middle of a work day. She hadn't displayed any aggressive tendencies towards dogs in other situations, so we asked for video footage of the day she was sent home. The owner (Ian) told us that he would only send us the footage if we took down the critical review first and that this was "non-negotiable". It really makes you wonder how many other critical reviews were taken down because of pressure from the owner. read more

I was charged $240 for a boarding visit I canceled at least a week in advance. My cancellation was confirmed but I was still charged. It took three days, messages, and multiple phone calls with the staff (who are extremely helpful, kind, and great at their jobs) until the owner said he refunded the money. I stressed the urgency of this matter but the owner (who is apparently in California) has made no attempt to make things right or explain why i was charged in the first place. It's a bummer, my dog really likes it here and it was convenient. But the owner is the problem. read more

We've been using Big Dog Walkin' for doggy day care 2-3 times per week since we adopted our *very playful* lab mix puppy (now over a 2.5 years ago). Day care has been amazing to help socialize her as well as get out some of her crazy play energy. The staff are all super friendly and clearly love dogs. The hours are also great, 7a-8p. Originally, it allowed us to drop her off in the morning before we need to leave for work, as well as run a few errands after work before we need to pick her up. Then, we moved a bit further away and started having them pick her up and drop her off. They typically pick her up between 9-10a, and drop her off between 4:30-5:30p. We're moving out of town and we know our pup is going to miss seeing her four and two legged friends! Thanks for all that you do! read more

I was worried about finding a doggie daycare that would accept a 13 week old pup, but these guys came through and we have been absolutely thrilled with their services. It is immediately apparent that you are dealing with a group people who truly adore and understand dogs. They get to know each dog in their care and work hard to make the dogs comfortable and to promote social engagement. They are organized and stay on top of logistics - reservations, billing, etc. The best dog trainer in town, Amy Koel, consults to BDW. They pick up and drop off, which makes it possible for us to use their services, even though we live in a different town. My absolute favorite feature is the ability to home board your dog with the same people who hang out with the pups all day. While we were away for a week Sonya the pup continued to attend her beloved daycare and at night she got to go home with someone she already knew and liked. We recommend BDW highly! read more

If I could vote zero stars, I would! As a dog owner I could not possibly be more underwhelmed or under impressed with a dog walking/daycare service than Big Dog Walkin'. Our dogs are members of our family, they are our children. Not only is this place of business ignorant and subpar with their care, but when a mistake or "accident" happens they do NOT notify the dogs owners. The reviews I've read and the personal experience I have witnessed is enough to see this operation should not be in business. I would rather leave my dog on a boat in the middle of the ocean alone than in the care of this place. And while that is of course something I would never do that is how extreme I feel about not ever leaving a pet in their care. PLEASE PLEASE do NOT bring your dog here for care. You will be one in a long line of dog parents that have experienced tragedy at their hands. Thank goodness for the local police that helped to find my friends dog that was in the care of this facility. My very good friend's dog somehow got away from their care and they did not even report it to the parents! My friends didn't even know what happened until they arrived to pick their sweet pup up from daycare! Can you imagine?! It is utterly disgusting and irresponsible. My dogs used to do their dog walk with them. I paid for 30 mins walk 3-4x a week. My Concierge informed me that the dog walker would only walk my dogs for less than 10 mins and sometimes even less than 5 mins. per day I mentioned this concern to the owner and instead of checking with his dog walkers, he said he wanted evidence and my accusation is . I then checked the FOB log with my property management company as well as the videos and I confirmed and sent to the dog owner the FOB log to show to him that there were multiple days when the dog walker came in for less than 10 mins. He said he would call me and this was back in February 2019. I replied to his email that i was in a meeting so we were not able to talk. Nevertheless, that was back in February 2019 and i havent heard from them since. I have given them several months to reach out to me and explain but never got any replies or calls. I think he is expecting me to call him and "give them a chance" but since i am the customer, shouldnt he be the one who should reach out to me? I even went to their office to collect my keys but they didnt even say anything. In another review, they said they fired the dog walker, but how would i know that since they didnt reach out to me? My fiancé and I have a Dalmatian that is currently 6 months old, which equates to an extremely high-energy dog, and we bring him to Big Dog Walkin whenever one of us cannot work from home and watch him. And OH MY GOODNESS, on days when our little ball of energy goes to Big Dog Walkin, he comes home a model citizen - so calm and relaxed, happy and tired out from his day of play. I know he loves it there because he practically pulls my arm off in the morning when I drop him off because he is so eager to play with his furry friends. It's clear that the staff here really care about the dogs. They have a professional attitude and will you little a little "update" when you pick up your dog (when he last went to the bathroom, whether he played with other dogs, went for a walk that day, etc). They absolutely love all of the dogs, and my dog loves them! He can be very shy with people but he gets excited to see the girls at BDW and jumps all over them when he gets there (sorry guys!). They even post photos on Instagram - what a nice surprise it is to be at work, and sneaking a quick peak at Instagram, and seeing a cute little photo of your dog at daycare! I've seen some other reviews for BDW that mention unexpected fees, but this has never been our experience here. There are clear policies about pricing and late pick up fees, etc., that are printed and given to new clients, so you always know what is due. I highly, highly recommend that you bring your dog here! The staff has always been very courteous and takes care of my golden retriever puppy very well. That said, one of the owners is completely rude and disrespectful. Within my first two weeks as a newcomer at BDW, I was charged close to $100 in bogus, deceptive fees. if you happen to miss the inconvenient 6pm deadline (when most people are traveling home from work), their shoddy website charges you a bogus 33% late fee. It gets worse, their "policy" is to charge you for a full day of boarding if you are forced to cancel that day due to a sick puppy. My golden retriever puppy became sick with constant vomiting, and needed to be taken in for emergency care. I called and cancelled the second they opened that morning, at 7AM. Yet was still charged a boarding charge for the full day. When I explained the extenuating circumstances and provided proof of the emergency visit, the owner was rude, disrespectful and refused. I can not emphasize enough how rude the owner was. Another example was when they tried to charge us a late fee.. ON THE LATE FEE that wasn't paid that week. I had accidentally forgot to pay a late fee when we paid in the middle of the week (in advance, mind you). That Friday, the guy had the nerve to ask for a late fee, on a late fee, with a grin on his face. I've never felt so creeped out while trying to pick up my puppy. It's a sham, simply put. Dealing with the owners of BDW is like dealing with Comcast, or dealing with your bank's customer service.. back when overdraft fees were a thing. All of this said, we are still relatively new to BDW and dishing out close to $400 a month just on boarding costs. I found Big Dog Walkin' on Yelp when researching doggie daycare facilities. I was impressed by all the five star reviews, but honestly wondered if this was too good to be true. Now, I've had several months of weekly service and I am happy to report that BDW is truly fantastic! I feel so grateful that I found this place. And... based on how excited my dog gets when we pull into the parking lot, I'm certain he is too! I noticed that their only negative review is from someone who has never been a customer. That feels confusing haha. Yes, the dogs are taken out back for bathroom breaks. This is located on Chestnut Hill Ave. It's an urban location. What that person doesn't know, is that the dogs are also taken for walks around the neighborhood and/or romps at a Newton dog park. These dogs are never crated and spend all day lounging on couches or playing with their doggie peers. They are well staffed and each person I've met has been so kind and professional. They make a real effort to know each dog in their care and cater to their needs. I couldn't ask for more and easily give them another five star review! read more

Our dog Callie has been with BDW for over a year. She goes 3-4 days per week and loves her time there. Not only does she come home tired but she also gets the chance to be around all kinds of other dogs. We've seen dramatic improvements in her behavior since signing her up for daycare. Having a consistent schedule, consistent exercise and socialization have been huge for her health and happiness. About a year ago, when Callie had been going to daycare for about a month, she was spooked and slipped out of her collar. The BDW staff rallied behind us, posted on their social media and the office manager, Alana, helped us search and post fliers to help find her. I don't know many places that would help us they way that they did. They talked with us over the phone (even on a Saturday when they had an event going on) to make suggestions on what could help us find her. We will be forever grateful to them for their help. Earlier this summer, we decided to foster a dogs from a rescue. They were happy to help us coordinate care for the dog we were fostering. This dog has special needs: she is deaf and an escape artist (who could jump the gate at daycare) and they were happy to work with her to make sure she was safe while in their care. Emily, Ian and their team are always accessible and easy to communicate with. The system for requesting services is very easy to use. If I ever have an issue with anything, I know they will call me back the same day. There have been many times they have gone above and beyond for us with scheduling or drop off/pick up. At the end of the day, the staff always tell me how Callie's day was and if there were any issues. I can't say enough good things about their communication and genuine concern for every dog in their care. Another perk that I've grown fond of is their social media presence - they post photos/videos everyday so you can see what your dog is up to. We especially loved that while we were on vacation! We have absolutely loved every minute of being part of the BDW family! We are moving to Jersey City soon and even though I have lived in Boston for 13 years and only known BDW for about 13 weeks, they are part of what I will miss most about this place. They took excellent care of our precious lil puppy Reggie at daycare and puppy playgroup - he would lose his mind with excitement whenever the puppy pickup van pulled up. He absolutely loves it there, and it is clear how much the staff, especially Ami, loves him and knows all his personality quirks and individual needs. Communication for the most part is exceptional. They offer pickup and drop off services which are cheaper than Uber if you don't have a car and live a few miles away like we did. They even throw an annual pool party for you and the dogs. One of the few places that says they are a "family" but really feels like it. We are leaving our 3-month old puppy there for an overnight before we move and I have absolute confidence that they will make him feel comfy his first night away from home. At this point, I would probably leave my children there, if I had any. We love BDW!! read more

My dog loves coming here! We tried another place nearby back in January because my dog walker's schedule changed, but they called me an hour into his very first day saying it wasn't a fit (he was understandably nervous as he is a rescue who'd never been to daycare before). So we checked out Big Dog Walkin' and have never looked back since. We can walk from home or drive in bad weather, but my dog goes nuts as soon as he realizes where he's going. Once we're inside, it's like I don't even exist because he's so excited to run to the back and see his dog and human friends. He comes home exhausted, which is great! Their prices are reasonable and their hours are great. I've hardly brought him since March because I'm home all the time now, but he's gone a few times for socializing and to give us a short break from each other and all the staff remember his name and he seems to feel right at home there. The current 8am opening time is a bit tough with my schedule and I look forward to them getting back to their regular hours, hopefully soon. I love that they do sleepovers (vs. kennel boarding) and we may take advantage of that if I ever travel again! read more

Alana was very helpful to coordinate a meet n greet with us. Our puppy is always happy and tired after his daycare. BDW posts updates on Instagram almost daily, which I love the most! You can see that all the dogs are happy and comfortable in the office and at the park. You can also tell that people who work there really care about dogs. My neighbors told me that the owners (Emily and Ian) are very nice as well. Unfortunately I haven't had the chance to meet them due to work schedule. My French Bulldog Rosie has been going to daycare at BDW for a month now, and I can honestly say it was the best decision I could've ever made. She goes 3-4 times a week, and every morning at drop off she runs to the staff and gets lots of love from them (and they all seem genuinely excited to see her come in the building) and then she runs immediately back to the door to get back to the other dogs without even glancing back at me. When I pick her up at night, I have a very happy and sleepy dog. In reading some of the other posts, I have not had the same experience regarding fees. Before I began using BDW, I met with Ian and he went over all of their policies and fees. The only time I was charged a fee was 100% my fault (I wrote a check out to BDW and forgot to leave it for them and wasn't able to get it to them until the following week). I do not like this company because they decide on which dogs to take in based on what they look like! They didn't even meet my pup before they denied her which is just unjust and unfair. I as a black women in this society I deal with discrimination on a daily basis and its sad that even my puppy has to go through it as well. Shame on BDW for not even allowing a meet and greet first. My pup is a 5 month old pitbull mix and is in training to become a therapy dog. I take her to work with me 3 days of 5 at a specialized school for the mentally ill and at risk youth. She has never been an issue and to simply have her be turned down because of "how she looks" is quite sad. She's never had an issue with the doggy day care she currently is attending and BDW doesn't even bother to ask you how they are with other dogs/people. Its solely based off "what your dog looks like" which I think is absolutely ridiculous in all aspects. read more

Excellent company with loving and compassionate owners who really care about the doggies. I found Emily and Ian on a whim and am so glad I contacted them. I have 2 twelve week old puppies and use the "let out service" twice daily during the week. Booking service is easy and done on-line. Communication is great and I get emails confirming every interaction. When I get home from work I feel confident that the puppies had a good day and that our potty training is continuing. There is always a little note letting me know how they were and what they did. Very happy. I wish them lots of success! read more

I took my dog here about 6 months ago, but I have yet to write a review. My dog is a sweet, playful, energetic and friendly girl, but after going here she has become more aggressive with dogs. The play is mayhem, they just let the dogs roam about with little supervision and discipline. I found out my dog had been bitten by another dog and they refused to do something about it, i know dogs can randomly get aggressive so i didn't even request to get the other dog kicked out but they wouldn't even separate them when i asked. The owners are young and incredibly rude when I refused to pay for the last day they complained that they needed the money because they're a small business, so I paid and never took my pup there again. read more

By far the greatest daycare around! They treat each dog as if it were their own. The owners are great with communication and the staff are friendly and amazing with the dogs! Such a great deal for all the services they offer too. The dogs are never crated and they go on walks and to the park as well. They definitely make sure they get plenty of exercise! They also offer overnight boarding with the staff in their own homes. Your dog gets to go home with someone they know and are comfortable with. How much greater could it get?! read more
