We worked with Hannelore to help our 3-year-old rescue chiweenie, Luffy, who had some aggression and reactivity issues. She showed us how to handle him on walks and crate train him. Luffy picked up crate training super fast, and we even enjoyed a group class! Hannelore is awesome, and we can't recommend her enough for anyone looking for a skilled and friendly dog trainer!

I have a one and half year old Shiba - he has typical Shiba traits! We had a welcome call with the owner and she GOT us immediately!!! She understood what we needed and what can benefit our dog. We had a 1:1 training with Corey and he was AMAZING! he taught us so much we weren't seeing. He had his first day at day school - he did the full day. i was nervous but he LOVED it!! They sent me pictures and a report card at the end of his day. The place is very clean and they truly care about each dog in their care! Nicole - the shiba whisperer! She understands the Shiba quirks and truly enjoys helping shibas be the best they can be! highly recommend BFTD!!!!!

M'Barku enjoying life and feeling confident.

I got my adopted dog, M'Barku, Feb 2019. I made an appointment with BFTD and was immediately blown away by the service. I thought I was getting a dog walker but instead I got a community/family that has been so invested in the success of my dog and myself. Since joining the BFTD family, they have expanded their services to include training and dog school! Their services are so comprehensive, I get recommendations on anything from best food to how best manage separation anxiety. Also a HUGE plus is that this company is Woman owned and founded (Go Hannalore) and she strives for an inclusive culture being mindful of personal pronouns and inequities. Like I said, I thought I was getting a dog walker but instead I found a community that is genuinely invested in my success as a dog owner and as a whole person. Thank you BFTD for your exceptional service and your investment in me and M'Barku.

Our pup went to BFTD for structured day school for a couple months in summer 2020 and just started again in spring 2021 with hikes and day school. Going to BFTD makes a HUGE difference in our dogs happiness level and behavior. She's always been anxious in general, and didn't engage much with other dogs. The isolation of pandemic was compounding that, but when she goes to day school or hikes she approaches dogs and humans totally different. She LOVES the trainers and staff there, and we love how responsive they are - and how much information they give us about our own dog that we never knew. We're so glad we found BFTD and only hope we can take advantage of more and more of what they offer.

Play time at day school

I continue to learn and grow with my pups on our training journey. Amazing group of knowledgeable trainers- welcoming and inclusive, my dogs love them & their day school, training and fun classes have been life saving.

Harmony excited for class at BFTD!

They are amazing! Would highly recommend the puppy class. Gave us such good information and training/structure to use as new puppy owners.

The puppy day care only runs to 5 months, so my extremely well socialized 7 month old went into the normal play group. My dog frequents dog parks and has playdates often- all of which have gone swimmingly. She is also in her second training class, and is very smart. When we had our "temperament test" at UH, I expected this to go smoothly as well. I got a call shortly before the day was over that my dog was not allowed to come back until she was closer to 10 months, as she has "too much puppy energy"....I mean, maybe because she's a puppy? When asked what this meant, they told me that she was high energy, and not picking up on social cues. Yes, my 7 month old mix is high energy, I'm not sure whose puppy isn't! However, she has never missed social cues from other dogs she's played with. I have a hard time believing in this one setting she couldn't catch a hint. I respect that maybe my puppy is too energetic for the typical play group at UH, but perhaps extend the puppy age range, especially if you're making judgments related. Safe to say we will not be returning once she's 10 months. We will find a daycare that recognizes a puppy has energy like a puppy!

Do not go here or choose this program! Period. While colonial may be good for dogs who already have issues, it absolutely was NOT the right fit for a puppy. Our puppy came to us at 8 weeks old and we wanted to start his training and routines off from the start and be able to have a professional to ask questions to and look to for guidance. What we got instead was a woman who was super judge mental, used a prong collar to SHANK our dog extremely HARSHLY and told us to tie our dog to his bed for hours, have him in the crate for hours, or leashed to our side. She would shank him for things he didn't even understand he was doing wrong and she did it so hard he'd whimper and tuck his tail and be terrified. This CAUSED a TON of ANXIETY and then aggression as self-defense in our puppy which he has now struggled with his whole life. We had to hire a $4K dog trainer, go to a SPCA Dog behavioralist to put him on anxiety medication and completely re-train him to not be fearful or anxious or aggressive. He still isn't completely confident or able to be fully relaxed or happy. Going through Colonial Dog Training's program is one of my biggest regrets, HARMED my puppy/dog and caused problems that we will be trying to fix for years to come. Sure he learned sit, lay down, and stay, and one-on-one training is good, but he developed severed deeper issues that are even harder and more expensive to address. I understand how difficult it is looking for help and how many options are out there so it can get overwhelming, but I would absolutely tell anyone to not choose this program and instead, take your time interviewing trainers and find one who does not use such harsh negative reinforcements.

After the expected rounds of training with them, our dog was less anxious with people as well as other dogs and our relationship with him was better. After moving two years later, our dog had accidents in the house. We reached out to Jenna who guided us through how to help him healthily adjust to the new space. Within a month, we were back on track. Most recently, a few years later, our dog started having aggression when it came to crating. We reached out to Jenna who helped us to safely address behavior until she could come out and work with us in person. Two weeks after she came and taught us how to work through this behavior, our little dog puts himself in his crate and we are confident in his behavior again. If you are willing to put the work in, you get a lifetime of support and a happy, healthy pup! Thank you Jenna and Colonial Dog Training!

There is no better way to describe Lance and his two other trainers as miracle workers. I have a…read more1.5-year-old cattle dog/husky mix who is extremely fear reactive. It was impossible to walk by other dogs without a huge scene or even people without him growling. Baths and nail cutting were out of the question as the local groomer told me to never bring him back, and when I attempted, he would become aggressive towards me. I have always believed in Kevin and thus have been to A LOT of trainers in search of helping him reach his full potential of being a great dog. Away from his fears, Kevin is the sweetest dog. The number of people who told me he was "incurable" and that I would have to simply manage with what I have the rest of my life left me deflated and hopeless. Then I stopped to chat with a woman who was walking her German Shepherd one day and she told me I had to go see Lance. A week later I was sold. Lance has been a blessing. He has achieved more with Kevin in a matter of months than others said Kevin could accomplish in his entire life. While Kevin still has some work to be done, he now can walk by dogs without a scene, LOVES pets from people and even just this week had his first bath and nail cutting without any issues. Kevin's sister is another shining example of Lance's work. She was returned to the rescue by a family who said she was heavily resource-guarding and acting aggressively. My mom adopted her but was worried she was too much to handle. Since working with Lance, Luna is a new dog and easily the best dog my mom has ever owned. It is not just Lance's abilities to train dogs that are so incredible, he is also there for the owners. He understands and allows us to speak our minds and even vent with frustration about the different obstacles we have faced during the training process. He is ALWAYS available to the owners and truly loves what he does and the dogs he works with. I really cannot say enough great things about Lance and his team. If you are struggling with your dog, Lance is the answer. I rarely write reviews but this one was necessary because I empathize with the difficulty of finding great trainers--Lance is beyond great.

Wisdom, experience, care and intuition! We highly recommend training at Compatible Canine!read more
