Maine Street Restaurant - Chorizo hash was very good!

I've been coming to this spot since around 2006, and it used to be one of my absolute favorites…read more It's still fairly good, but over time I've noticed a shift in the overall experience as longtime staff has aged out and newer, younger staff has come in. They recently renovated the interior, and I do really like the update--using lighter colors has brightened the space and made it feel more modern. Unfortunately, a recent experience seriously impacted my opinion. I called to place a takeout order for about five people from my workplace, and the young man who answered the phone--Adrian--was extremely rude. He seemed impatient from the start, and by the time I was giving the third order, he began huffing and puffing, talking over me, and rushing me. Before I could even finish, he hung up on me. His coworkers were saying his name in the background, which is how I learned who he was. Adrian's behavior showed a complete lack of basic customer service and professionalism, and it did not represent Maine Street well at all. If answering phones and taking orders is part of the job, then patience and respect should be a given. Adrian needs serious improvement in customer service, because that interaction alone was enough to make me reconsider ordering again. On a lighter note, this place has long been part of the fabric of Hamtramck, and that's why this experience was so disappointing. Hamtramck has always taken pride in its local spots, community, and hospitality, and I hope Maine Street gets back to reflecting the warmth and care that made so many of us loyal customers for years.

I brought my niece and my son we were immediately seated and the table menus cups were all dirty. The silverware given to the table dirty. I ordered a coffee dirty cup came out with food and hair on it. So gross I let the lady know she took it ask if I wanted another I didn't . I just felt like they would just pour the coffee from one cup to another . I ordered the kids pancakes and I ordered eggs hash and lamb chops and ask they be medium they brought them out over well done so I let the lady know . She took them and brought back some cooked on outside and literally completely raw on inside so I told her never mind paid bill and left. Will never return EVER.

We have been wanting to come here for some time and we finally got the chance. For starters you…read moreneed reservations of you want a full tasting. I do believe you can come in and eat off the menu otherwise though. I really wanted the full experience, so I reserved two grand tastings. This consisted of a 9 course tasting. You can also add a wine pairing for $125/person. I will say that this was very expensive. Plan to spend at least $500 for two people to eat and drink. Was it worth it? ABSOLUTELY! We both remarked that this has a NYC feel to it. IYKYK. I struggle to fully convey what a magical night this was. We were treated like absolute royalty. The service was absolutely phenomenal! They had the ability to make you feel like you were the only couple in the whole place! It was interesting because the staff was dressed super casually. Jeans in fact. But they gave 5 star service. If you got up to use the restroom they were suddenly at your side to help you with your chair. While you were gone your napkin was refolded. You received new silverware with every course. I can't even explain how impeccable the service was. The food... Was incredible. Everything paired so nicely. I wish I had the words ro describe how delicious everything tasted. And we left absolutely stuffed. I ABSOLUTELY think everyone needs to have this experience at least once!

This has been my favorite restaurant in Detroit for years now The food is always outstanding and…read morethe service is perfection. It is still certainly in my top 10, and the service remains perfect, but we had a few dishes that missed the mark, the wine pairing just wasn't worth it and this was even more true for my husband who went for the upgraded wine pairing (mine beat his every time, but for 1 glass). That and the slightly smaller portion sizes and that they no longer do an amuse bouche or salad with the bread as they used to, brought them down to a 4. Note that they do add a 22% service charge to the bill, which usually pushes my buttons... But the service is so perfect, and they very directly call it out, so it didn't bother me that much. All that said this is still a fabulous place to go, even more so, if you are with a vegetarian or a pescatarian, because all can enjoy!
