Every bite was like an explosion of cheesy, crispy, comforting goodness. The crust was perfectly soft and airy on the inside with those incredible caramelized cheese edges that gave every bite an amazing crunch. Just a heads-up, this isn't fast food. Since it's a thick pan pizza made fresh, expect to wait a little longer, but it's 100% worth every minute. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the history of the restaurant, which made the experience even better. I also had my first Michigan Mule, and it did not disappoint! From the outside, it wasn't immediately obvious where to enter, but once inside, I was blown away. The walls are packed with decades of memorabilia, articles, awards, murals, and the story of how Detroit-style pizza was born. It felt like eating in a piece of pizza history, not just another restaurant. As someone who has eaten Detroit-style pizza back home, I can already tell every future slice will be measured against Buddy's, and that's a tough standard to beat. So, overall, the pizza is nothing special and I would recommend going for the special toppings before worrying about the extra cheese. They have a big dining area and each person is able to set up their own tab to manage their food and drink purchases. When you arrive, you get a wristband. This allows you to scan into the wall taps and fill up how ever much or little you want. They had a great selection of brews and I was especially impressed by a few local beers that were absolutely delicious! The pizzas are huge, so my only regret is not ordering one to share with a friend. I was able to only finish about a quarter of the small before having to call it quits. Detroit pizza is thick, so come hungry. While the pizzas were a hit, I have to say, the fries were a treat! They were so great! All in all- an excellent spot centrally located in Detroit!

Because I am lactose intolerant, I did a mixed cheese blend - Wisconsin brick cheese and Daiya vegan cheese- and for toppings: chicken, spinach, and mushrooms. Wisconsin Brick cheese, a staple in this pizza, is a semi-soft cheese with very low lactose due to its unique production and aging process. It was the best Detroit-style pizza I ever had.
