FYI their subs are really small and not worth the price.

Man.. this place fell off. The place use to be really good back in the days but I have no idea why they deciede to be stingy now with their meat portions. I payed 5.30 for a really small boom philly sub.

This was my first time having Detroit-style pizza in Detroit, and Buddy's absolutely lived up to the hype. Without question, it's the best Detroit-style pizza I've ever had. Every bite was like an explosion of cheesy, crispy, comforting goodness. The crust was perfectly soft and airy on the inside with those incredible caramelized cheese edges that gave every bite an amazing crunch. Just a heads-up, this isn't fast food. Since it's a thick pan pizza made fresh, expect to wait a little longer, but it's 100% worth every minute. The staff was friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the history of the restaurant, which made the experience even better. I also had my first Michigan Mule, and it did not disappoint! From the outside, it wasn't immediately obvious where to enter, but once inside, I was blown away. The walls are packed with decades of memorabilia, articles, awards, murals, and the story of how Detroit-style pizza was born. It felt like eating in a piece of pizza history, not just another restaurant. As someone who has eaten Detroit-style pizza back home, I can already tell every future slice will be measured against Buddy's, and that's a tough standard to beat. If you want authentic Detroit-style pizza from the place that started it all, this is a must-visit. Thank you, Buddy's, for an unforgettable meal. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm in Detroit!

Felt homie which we loved. Small parking lot as well. We arrived about 20 mins after opening. This place can get busy /packed fast but is worth the wait! Food: we ordered the Packard pepperoni pizza- it was delicious, with a great balance between sweet (from the hot honey) to savory. The dough, sauce, and toppings were well balanced, fresh, portioned.

We were traveling from Ohio and decided we wanted some Detroit style pizza. We read and watched…read morereviews from a bunch of places and decided to see what the excitement was about Michigan & Trumbull. We researched the menu and decided to order ahead so that we could maximize our travel time. We arrived, and there was a small parking lot which was great since we had my elderly mother with us. I think there may have been additional parking across the street. We noticed there were picnic tables outside where people were eating pizza and upon walking in to pick up our pizza, we saw some limited indoor seating. We went to sit in a booth and were abruptly told that seating is not for "carry out customers," but we were welcome to sit outside. Ok? Their website said nothing about there being any seating, and after traveling four hours, we would have enjoyed some drinks and maybe some side dishes in addition to our pizza if the employees weren't so rude. They didn't even ask if we'd like to order something additional. So, we went outside to eat. The pizza was good, but honestly, nothing special. We ALWAYS order a cheese pizza so we can truly compare it to other pizzas. We ordered extra mozzarella on our cheese, and I'm unsure of how much cheese they normally put on a cheese pizza, but the extra cheese was no more than the other pizzas we ordered. We also ordered a pepperoni which had to the good little pepperonis that curl up. Yum! In addition we ordered a specialty pizza called "The Long Drive Home." It had vodka sauce, sausage and banana peppers. This was a crowd favorite. The sausage has incredible flavor and combines really well with the peppers and vodka sauce. I personally love vodka sauce. This one wasn't creamy like you find on pasta, but was good. Finally we did a white pizza with all cheese, ricotta and black pepper. It was also good. The garlic aioli could have a little more flavor. Not sure if there wasn't enough to taste it or if it just needs more seasoning. So, overall, the pizza is nothing special and I would recommend going for the special toppings before worrying about the extra cheese. The ambiance of the restaurant is that of many city restaurants--small, loud, nothing fancy. The picnic tables were fine. Thankfully it was not too hot and we were able to enjoy our time.

Fluffy bread and a pleasant crust, this pizza parlor introduced me to some of the better pizzas during my stay. I got the Meat Lovers and the Big Mack to try. The Meat Lovers is what you expect, just a good amount of meat to pair with the large amount of dough and cheese. It's a bit oily and heavy, so the Big Mack was actually my favorite due to the lighter nature and the accurate taste compraison to an actual Big Mac. Beer was also great. I've been getting into beer lately and wanted to try some Michigan-brewed beer and the options as well as the taste did not disappoint. Service was good. I let them know that I wasn't from Michigan and it was my first week there and they gave me a good run-down of the menu. Their recommendations were solid and they leave us unattended for too long. I wish there was a bit more table space at the communal tables, but there's only so much you can do with the size of the restaurant.

For a starter, the cashew Caesar salad ($8) was ordered. It came with mixed greens, house-made cashew Caesar dressing, fried shallots, and vegan parmesan. This was very tasty. It was unique with the fried shallot addition. The dressing was just enough. It all appeared very fresh and crisp. The cheese had somewhat of an odd texture, but not a big deal. For a meal, the lobster roll pizza ($45) was ordered. This was so unique that it had to be tried. It came with 6 oz. wild caught lobster, herb crème fraiche, celery and onion brunoise, Cape Cod chips, and chives with drawn butter and lemon. This was very rich, so the addition of the lemon juice and crunchy chips really helped offset that. It was also heavy due to the components incorporated. The lobster appeared fresh and there was plenty of it. The butter was not even needed, but solid for a slight dip. The crème fraiche was solid and different. The crust was crispy and great too. Will I go back? I would, yeah.

Because I am lactose intolerant, I did a mixed cheese blend - Wisconsin brick cheese and Daiya vegan cheese- and for toppings: chicken, spinach, and mushrooms.
