    Twist- chocolate and vanilla!

Happy to see that a locally owned ice cream stand is still open. Great soft serve ice cream!

First time coming here and I wasn't a fan. Neighborhood ice cream place in North Riverside that serves ice cream, sundaes, float and food items. There is a small parking lot in the back for you to park. The prices are a bit over the top. I ordered a small swirl ice cream cone with chocolate and vanilla. I never tasted ice cream that didn't have any taste to it. When you place your order you have to speak inside this tape down microphone. I won't be screaming for ice cream here at Polar Bear. I recommend you try other places for some real good and tasty homemade ice cream.

Solid local spot! This is the perfect place to go to get affordable soft serve ice cream. I came here for the first time since I was a teen recently on a particularly hot day after returning from the Brookfield Zoo. This would also be a great stop if you're nearby shopping at the North Riverside Mall. There were three or four picnic tables against a wall in a completely shaded area. If you've never been there, you should know that Polar Bear is a tiny stand, so there's no indoor seating. There is a menu on the outside, as well as on the inside. I didn't remember that Polar Bear also serves savory standard American fare, such as burgers, hotdogs, and fries. We skipped that, however, in favor of the soft serve. You can get your soft serve in three cake cone sizes: small, medium, and large. I opted for a small chocolate-vanilla twist, which was a TON of ice cream for only $2.89. My husband decided to get a peanut butter dip on his cone, which was absolutely delicious. The dip flavor options are peanut butter, chocolate, and cherry. I also tried a sip of the cappuccino freeze, which was excellent. I definitely recommend stopping by, especially in the summer!

Delicious funnel cake and ice cream swirl. Drove 45 minutes to check this place out and it did not disappoint. Beware they do not sell bottled water but they do offer complimentary tap water. They are only open seasonal but definitely worth a try if you are in the neighborhood and in the mood for some delicious funnel cake fun!

Suuuuuuper cute little shop. I got the funnel cake sundae and some vanilla milk shakes. Everything was up quick and tasted amazing. They serve definitely an array of foods and desserts. Definitely worth a visit!

Definitely a locals place. I'm giving it a star up from what I think it deserves because I feel every neighborhood deserves a place like this and this is as community-oriented as it gets. People are faithful to joints like this, and I dig it. Got a chili dog and it was the standard skinny, cheap dog, with can chili. The bun was soft. The chicken tenders my wife got were fairly good. The soft-served ice cream is where it's at though!

It's one of these old-time ice cream shops that's been around for ages. After a trip to Brookfield Zoo, I said we'd stop by for a treat. Despite not passing through the area for nearly 10 years, I was happy to see the little hut with the fading sign of a relaxed polar bear licking a cone. It's a pretty small interior with just an order & pickup counter and no place to sit inside. There's some wooden picnic tables for eating outside, both by the street and next to the parking lot. While ice cream is their main draw, they also have burgers, hot dogs, and brats, along with fries and funnel cakes too. How's this for old school? Their carbonated drink fountain selection consists of Diet Rite, Green River, Splice, and root beer. They have soft-serve chocolate, vanilla, or twist, served in cones or in waffle dishes if you order a sundae. I went for a smoothie - the "Bear Special" which is strawberry-banana. My wife and both kids had choc-vanilla twist ice cream. Total order was under $8. Beat that, DQ or Baskin-Robbins! It's only about a 5-minute drive from the zoo, so it's a great place to stop on the way back. If you come with kids, I recommend sitting on the tables on the side closer to the residential street and not in the parking lot, since cars come racing in from Cermak.

I've been coming here since I was 5 years old. Ah the memories. I think that's why I love it so much... Yes the soft serve is the bomb dot com but we all know memories attached to outings make a place even better. The second I got picked up from the airport I asked my dad if the Polar Bear was still open and he said "we can go tomorrow" yes! I felt like a kid again just with that answer!! I love the soft serve cone dipped in chocolate- the crunchy shell over the velvety ice cream is perfect. I set aside the fact that I'm lactose intolerant for this place. I took one for the team, being me, ha ha. My parents even ordered something! They never get dessert let alone ice cream. My mom upgraded from the small to medium sundae; the small is very small. 1 hygiene issue: the employee who made our desserts also handled the cash - he did not put on new gloves for our order & he didn't trash them after we paid. Yuck. For this I deducted a star.

The interest in visiting has always been there because I work nearby and ever since I tried their fries which were ordered by my coworker, I wanted to visit. Poor Boy sits along Roosevelt Rd in a high traffic area in Maywood. The parking lot itself is private with an acceptable number of parking spaces available. While pulling my vehicle into a parking space, I could not ignore the smell of the food looming in the air which built anticipation to enter. Once I entered, I stood in a line which gave me time to browse the menu as the customer ahead of me ordered. After the customer ordered, the employee took my order, giving off an enthusiastic vibe in the process. Here I was thinking that I would visit and order just fries, but nope! That changed once I saw the fish sandwich on the menu as an option. I was asked by the employee if I wanted the combo instead and I accepted! Now best believe I was not going to visit Poor Boy and not order those delicious fries that my coworker knows that I love. My order was completed in no more than 8 minutes, and I was well on my way. I opted out of dine-in, choosing to take my order to go because I did not want to be in the area long. We all know how terrible the traffic is in the area, and I had no interest in being out in it. Moreover, the restaurant appeared decently clean, and the atmosphere gave off a fast-food restaurant vibe. And inside, there were an acceptable number of tables with seats inside of the dining area. Upon getting inside of my vehicle I could not resist eating those fresh tasting fries before even driving out of the parking space, tehehe. It was a good thing that I had them in my lap eating them because they helped calm my nerves while being amongst impatient drivers along Roosevelt Rd. I swear! The elastic on my panties is wearing out from having to pull them up, just to deal with impatient drivers on the road. I must admit that food cures anything, but I do wish that the employees did not chunk extra un-bagged loose fries inside of the bag, burying my fish sandwich underneath in the process. I mean come on, sheesh! The first bite of the fish sandwich left me with a mouth full of fish, lettuce, tomato, and tartar sauce! However, the first words out of my mouth after swallowing that first bite was, "Mmm, that is good!". I have to say that the fish sandwich swayed the rating I had intended on giving Poor Boy because of those loose fries. I am glad that I finally considered visiting because it would have prolonged the chance of tasting their fish sandwich. I could very well re-visit and order from Poor Boy again because it sits in an area that I frequent. Whenever that visit depends on the craving of my tastebuds at the time. So it was all about the beef and sausage sandwich for me and I will say I found the sausage to be spicier than the peppers themselves which was totally awesome as anything that's hot I'm game for, while it wasn't overly bearing hot it just had a good flavor to it with every component especially the beef itself which honestly I kinda wish I would have only gotten the beef as I just enjoyed it's flavor on that yummy bread with the sweet and the hot peppers! They had a tamale here too and it was ok it was 4 small pieces that were easy to share or had a good corn flavor to it while it was yummy It really reminded me of the ones that you can find on the corner of Rampart & Beverly in LA as the flavor was very similar to me. The cheeseburger was okay, but the patty was smaller than expected and could have used a bit more seasoning to really stand out. It wasn't bad, just a little underwhelming compared to other spots. We also had the breaded steak sandwich, which was decent but could have used some jalapeños for extra flavor. Portion-wise, it was very generous and easily enough for two people to share. The chicken fingers were just okay--good size, but again, a bit more seasoning would have helped. The mushrooms were solid, and the onion rings were better than most--big and crispy--but there were quite a few broken pieces. We also tried the famous cannoli shake, which tasted exactly like you'd expect--a cannoli in liquid form. If you like cannolis, you'll probably enjoy it.
