The main strip is very short, just a couple blocks. It has several coffee shops and cafes here, with a few clothing and gift shops. There is a bookstore, children toy store, florist and a bit of everything to create this charming village. It feels a bit touristy because of the gift shops which have very pretty items but thankfully none of the kitschy souvenirs. You can get thoughtful gifts here. Food wise, it is limited. I notice a ramen and sushi place besides the cafes which sell sandwiches and pastries. There is also a thrifty supermarket so maybe one can buy those ready meal to go and have a picnic during warmer days. I will stop here for coffee if I am in the area. BjornBar Bakery is a gem here.

Parking is plentiful (1h or 2h, 7 days) along the main drag, as well as the side streets. There is also a free underground lot (accessible from Ayr Avenue) that offers all day parking on Sunday. The place has a nice walkable feel, with plenty of pedestrians. Coffee shops and other small businesses dot the place. The only chain businesses I saw were the supermarket (Thrifty's), Starbucks, and Subway. Pretty nice area to spend an afternoon strolling.

This is a very busy location so the time from drop off to when the cans are processed can take up to 10 business days. I always take a snapshot of my label to help me keep track of drop offs. There have been a couple of times when a bag has gone missing or seems short - what has likely happened is a bag split at the processing location - however an email to customer service with the bag number typically remedies to at. By the way, customer service contact has always great - even if I was mistaken and in error.

I do count the bottles, just to see how their numbers compare to mine. They usually are within 1 or 2 bottles of each other. However, this last time I counted 140 bottles dropped off - they credited me with only 102, a differences of 38 bottles. When I emailed a complaint about the discrepancy, I was brushed off with a trite response that they were confident their number was correct. No willingness to even entertain the idea they made a mistake. A word of warning - be prepared for the possibility of being ripped off. This is NOT AN HONEST BUSINESS they are running. Will be taking my business elsewhere going forward.

I was also getting over being sick the past few days and had some errands that accumulated, so time was of the essence. When I arrived, there was only 1 cart and no trays. I grabbed the cart and wheeled it into the customer receiving/counting area but there was no one there. I waited a couple of minutes and no one came out even though I saw at least one worker eyeball me from back inside of their work area. I figured no one was coming so I decided to wheel the cart to my vehicle. I then stacked my bottles and cans as neat as I could, 12 per row. By the time I finished I was concerned that if I wheeled it to the customer service area, that the cans and bottles would tumble over into a mess. Earlier I saw that a worker came out to another customer's car and seemed to do the count there, for the same reason since that customer also didn't have any trays. I left the cart at my car and walked into the customer service area. Again, no one was there. I could see a worker or two who looked at me, however no one came out. A few literal minutes later, another customer drove in and came in through the other (north) door. Shortly thereafter a worker came out but instead of asking me if I needed help, the employee immediately asked the other person if he needed assistance. Fine, I thought, I'll wait until he was done. He mentioned something about needing a pallet but I really didn't pay attention. After he left, I expected that the worker would help me, however by this time 2 other customers came in after me, both with carts, and the employee started helping them without saying anything to me or even thinking to herself why this person had been standing in the area for the last several minutes. I realized that by the time the worker finished with the other customers and got to me, a significant amount of time would have passed and quite frankly I still had other errands to run. I calculated things out and determined it would be quicker for me to simply pack up my items and load them back into my car- which is exactly what I did. The whole time I reloaded everything back into my car, no one came out to check on me or even ask if I was stealing these items. Ironically after loading everything, I noticed that there was a scruffy looking person who arrived on a bike, who looked like he was in fact stealing bottles and cans. I was loaded up and ready to go, and given my experience was not motivated to speak up about this. Even if I wanted to, I don't think I could have gotten the attention of any employee even if I fired a flare into the sky. I'm happy to find another place to offload my items and just need to ensure that wherever I do business is not linked to this chain or mother company.

I really had no idea what to do with my old vacuum cleaner and my crockpot from the dinosaur age. Seriously, it's not easy to get rid of this kind of stuff anymore! So I was thrilled to find this place, and the whole process of unloading this kind of stuff was so easy! Finding the place is the most difficult part of the whole process; it's in an industrial area, parallel to Terminal Ave, just a few minutes away from the Science Center. Luckily, there is a sandwich-board sign by the road, marking the entrance to their huge, unpaved parking lot. Once I found the place, I pulled up to a large, opened garage door on the warehouse there, and I saw a guy loading stuff into various bins. I asked him if I could just put my stuff down by the bins and he said sure. I dumped my stuff and left. I mean, how much easier can offloading your junk be? I believe this place is open every day of the year, and the have long hours, too. Can't beat that! (Writing this, I am reminded that I have a broken NutriBullet I should bring there soon. Glad I found this place, as my condo doesn't have the storage to keep broken appliances hanging around).

I always score impressive pendants, findings, and sterling silver bails/findings at a great price. Great, friendly service too, at amazing prices, especially for Granville Island/Kitsilano. I was looking for blue fire/flame labradorite pendants, and I looked everywhere but couldn't find anything remotely suitable under $100. Upon walking into Beadworks, there was a display of crystal pendants, and they had a few Labradorites for $22! I quickly grabbed one, when a staff showed me a nearby dish on a display with more similar pendants. I found a gorgeous square briolette labradorite pendant for $32! There are tons of gorgeous, handmade pieces in their front window, I asked and was surprised at their reasonable prices. I asked the staff about silver bails, requesting sterling silver, and then showed me a square bin of many, for $4 each. I left with 2 stunning pendants and a couple of bails for $50, half the price of 1 single pendant in nearby shops. Service was helpful and friendly, despite being VERY busy on a sunny Sunday Labour Day weekend. I've since bought a raw ruby pendant, more findings, so this is now my go-to for new pendants and supplies from now. I cannot recommend their selection, prices or service levels, highly enough!

I took the bottles to the counter and confessed to the guy in sweet ear muffs that it was my first time, asking how best to sort the bottles. (Hey, I'm a follow-the-rules type of gal.) To make a sweeping generalization, I was expecting a grumpy-middle-age-man reply, but instead got a friendly direction to separate out the types of containers into the red trays and leave the beer bottles in their cases. As requested, I cordoned off the containers and redeemed them for the value of a coffee and muffin. True, the floor was sticky, the air stinky, and I tried desperately not to touch anything, but at least the service was friendly. Let's focus on the positive ; )
