Usually going out in Waikiki is for a sit down or special dinner; it's rare I find myself in need of a casual lunch. On a lazy weekend day I was craving poke and figured it was worth a revisit. You choose your starch and fish cuts, then sauces and additions. Some items are included, others are extra. They have a selection of bottled and canned drinks too. The inside is plain but clean, with indoor and outdoor tables. The staff were super fast to greet and make the food. Prices are a bit high, but that's to be expected in a touristy area. There are many better places to get poke in the city, but you won't be disappointed with the freshness and flavor here in a pinch.

Currently on vacation with my best friend. We needed a quick poké fix since we just landed. It was decent the staff were nice. I think it was a bit over priced though. I've definitely had way better for cheaper.

I was in Hawaii and was on the hunt for poke. I prefer poke with a base of salad, and not all places offer that, so I loved that Poke Bar did. The service was good, and the restaurant is right across the street from the beach. The food itself was very flavorful.

I was desperate for poke and this was one of the few open/close by on a Monday afternoon. Cute little spot, service was fine, but the price paid for the amount of poke given was not great - it definitely was topping heavy. The tuna was lovely but the salmon was definitely fishy and not fresh. All in all, I'm not sure that this is worth the price of almost $20.00.

Fresh Hawaiian poke! Not drowned in sauce, good side options. Poke here just hits. This was our first day on the island and we started here. It was a nice way to start off a week of poke. Nice kids behind the counter.

To my amazement, I once again had astonishing accuracy in my initial assessment of my Jan 2023 meal here. Poké Bar 3 fish bowls is just terrific here in Waikiki. Maguro Bros is fresher, and since I'm fresh I prefer. But of course for the rest of the crowd, I totally understand why they'd prefer Poke Bar. More customization, more options. Why stock your stockings into one company when you can diversify the portfolio? Finance bro, whatever. Why marry your first kiss when you got other tongues to tango with? Oh boy. Let me leave on top. I'm iffy on the spicy tuna here but the Ahi Tuna is great, really like the octopus and shrimp, and the salmon is a good combo too. Get the crab over the seaweed. Don't over sauce don't under sauce. Don't nap when you can sleep. Don't poop when you only need to pee. Don't jump when you should roll. Don't love when you are an unlovable wolf boy whose only asset is a pet mule that might be starved and dead when I return home. I need to return to society, but I don't want to. A conundrum. Poke here was amazing. Service was fast and ambiance was nice and casual. Recommend the Tuna and salmon. Did not enjoy the baby scallops - but otherwise good.

This is the Poke Bar that's in the same complex as Yard House and Ruth Chris. We were at the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center and decided to walk across the street to try them out. I got the three item bowl (fresh ahi, salmon, baby scallops) on sushi rice and greens $19.90 plus avocado $1.75. It comes with a side. I got the miso imitation crab. For my mix ins I selected cucumber and edamame. For my three sauces I got house, spicy mayo and wasabi mayo. I loaded my bowl with toppings (crispy garlic, crispy onion, furikaki). The hubby got the two item bowl. My bowl was delicious. I could tell that the ingredients were very fresh. What was a little weird to me was that they gathered all the protein and mixed it with all three sauces. At other places they mix one protein with one sauce. I guess it all ends up in the stomach anyway.

After a long day of flying, we came to Poké Bar for dinner since it was just a short walk from our hotel and we were looking for something fast and healthy. Normally, when it comes to poke shops, I like to get one of their specialty combinations since I get easily overwhelmed by all the options if I need to build my own bowl from scratch. However, they only offered one house special which didn't exactly pique my interest, so I went with the full customization route. For $17.90, you can select two types of fish; I chose the spicy ahi and garlic shrimp, both of which were marked "house favorite" on the menu. In addition to seaweed salad, I included cucumber, onion, edamame, fried garlic, fried onion, furikake and their house sauce, all over a bed of rice and greens. In hindsight, I should have chosen the fresh ahi which was actual cubes of tuna, as opposed to the spicy ahi, which was all minced up and mixed with a spicy sauce. The spicy ahi tasted fine and had a medium kick to it, but the scoop was tiny, like melon-ball sized. In my photo, it is that small red-ish ball in the middle. The scoop of garlic shrimp (also all chopped up) was a little bigger, but small relative to other poke shops I've been to. Since this place is located in a touristy area, I wasn't surprised to face elevated costs, but these bowls were very overpriced in my opinion. The ingredients were fresh and the service was friendly, but there are definitely poke spots out there that will provide a better value. We chose this mainly out of convenience, and I unfortunately didn't leave completely satisfied.

If in Waikiki this is a good spot to try. The poke was good and the service quick. But it was very touristy and pricey. To be expected in Waikiki. Not bad spot. But... if you want poke try foodland. Some good poke.

    Poke bowls in paradise!

If you're looking for a spot that hits the perfect balance of fresh Hawaiian Poke - The Poke Bar is it. I've had my fair share of poke bowls, but this place is officially at the top of my list! Everything was incredibly fresh. The tuna was buttery, the toppings were crisp, and they don't skimp on the portions. You can tell they actually care about the quality of their ingredients. What really took this experience from "good" to "extraordinary" was our server, Sage. From the moment we walked in, Sage greeted us with the kind of genuine warmth and that's hard to find these days. Sage walked us through the best bowls and helped us navigate the options with ease. Even though the shop got busy, Sage made sure we had everything we needed and made us delicious bowls. Sage's energy is infectious. It's rare to find someone who genuinely seems to love making people's day better through great service. The Poke Bar is a gem, but the staff--specifically Sage--is what makes it a destination. We'll definitely be back soon!

Another great poke place that I found in Waikiki. It's a bit non traditional poke but I found it was fun to experiment with more toppings. The service was friendly and attentive. It's worth the visit.

If you love Just Poke (Seattle area), you'll love Poke Bar! Choices are amazing, and simple to choose from. Fish here is so smooth, I just don't know how it is possible! Service is fast, so even if there is a crowd, it's not a problem. Now it's my go-to place in Waikiki!

Do you need reservations for lunch?

No need. Just line up and order - sort of like when you order a sandwich at a deli. Then find any available seating.

    Is there gluten free options?

Limited, but yes. Two of their sauces are gluten-free. I wish they had gluten-free soy sauce (tamari). You also don't get one of their sides that normally come with a poke bowl, since they don't have a gluten-free option and offer no substitutions.

Is this place open for takeout during the lockdown?

No we are closed now. Yard House, Ruth Chris, Denny’s and PF Chang are open for takeout and delivery. Thanks.

Parking was scarce, but we managed to find a spot nearby in the neighborhood. It was a Saturday around lunchtime, and we were able to be seated immediately. We didn't really know what we were doing with the menu, so our server ordered whatever she thought we would like. She did a great job. We got the Pipikaula short ribs, kalua pig, lomi lomi salmon, poi, mac salad, and fried butterfish collar.  Everything was so good! My favorite two items were the short ribs and the butterfish collar. The short ribs were so meaty with a nice firm texture and had a yummy sweet marinade. The fried butterfish collar was crispy and dripping with buttery goodness.  Trying poi for the first time was such an interesting experience as well. I had always wondered what it tasted like. I had always thought it was going to be like a sweet taro paste dessert, but it's actually more like a starch and serves the same role as rice! Its neutral flavor allows you to pair it with your proteins. It adds a bit of texture and helps you feel full. I was really grateful for finally getting to try it and loved learning something new! I had a great time at Helena's. The food was delicious, and I got to learn more about traditional Hawaiian cuisine. I totally recommend it. Great vibes.

We went with what's recommended for first timers - laulau pork, you eat the leaves everything and it's filling and delicious - short ribs, some might say it's overcooked but I think it's just a different way of cooking and eating it, the pieces were thick and high quality, comes with 4 - Loki salmon, it's cured and this reminds me of ceviche or pico de gallo and salmon, it was flavorful, juicy and refreshing - comes with onions and salt to add to the complexity of the flavors - we ate it with poi, which they use as the starch to replace the rice. It's made of taro, I say give it a try for that unique and authentic experience - coconut jelly was yummy They accept cash and card Limited parking in the front, come in right before 5:30 on a weekday to beat the crowd Small family business vibes The experience lives up to the hype!

The staff was super nice about it and was able to accommodate us, with only a small request that we be out by 8pm since there was another big party with a reservation coming in. Absolutely reasonable. They sat us right away at three large tables, which gave us plenty of space for food and didn't force us to sit super close together. Menus, waters, plates, napkins, and forks were all brought out immediately, and our waiter was quick to take our order. We started with the prix fixe menu for 8-10 guests and were going to add other items à la carte, but a handful of our group accidentally went to the other Side Street location (make sure your group is all on the same page), so what we ordered ended up being more than enough. We left stuffed and with 5 boxes of food still. Edamame was nice and steamy, and large enough to easily pop the beans out with your mouth. Wish there was a bit more salt though. The farmer's salad had everything going on from citrusy to salty to crispy. Avocado had a little bit of oxidation but the capers, dressing and potato curls provided plenty of reasons to overlook it. The fried rice came in a hefty portion, with sizable pieces of bacon and sausage. The chicken I didn't realize was boneless based on the shape of the deep fry, but it was nice to freely bite into it without worrying about hitting anything with my teeth. Probably a bit too much on fried bits but still good. Pork chops had a better meat to crisp ratio in my opinion, as well as juiciness. They even came with ketchup on the side, which I love as a pairing but don't see much of at restaurants. My favorite meat item was definitely the sizzling boneless kalbi. The presentation on the sizzling plate with a side of kimchi was spectacular, and the meat was full of flavor. We also ordered yakisoba, which wasn't part of the prix fixe. Tasted good but nothing past standard expectations. We let the waiter know we had a 30th birthday at the table, and they brought a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream with a candle, and did a decent job getting the whole room to participate in the singing. It could also be the type of crowd this place attracts, since it seemed that everyone was so friendly and approachable. Thanks to the quick and consistent service, we were out in a little over an hour with no complaints.

There was one person sitting at the counter facing the kitchen and one employee working. This was my very first visit to Guava Smoked so I asked the person at the counter what he recommends. He said the two most popular meats are the kalbi and the spicy pork. "Perfect!" I thought, because those were the two options I was eyeing. Unfortunately, they were out of kalbi that day. Bummer... Nothing else on the menu caught my eye, so I ordered a smoked spicy pork plate to go. The spicy pork was good. Did it blow my mind? I wouldn't say it did. But it was satisfying enough. The laulau was quite dry, and the preparation felt more like meat that had been boiled or cooked in liquid, which isn't something I usually enjoy. The lechon kawali had a crispy pork belly texture, topped with something similar to a salsa, but it didn't suit our taste either. Unfortunately, the cabbage served with it also had some black spots, which was off-putting. The BBQ short ribs were the highlight of the meal and the dish we enjoyed the most.
