When I travel, I like to have Asian my first night out. It can be Korean and it can be Vietnamese. It can be Chinese. It can be Japanese, a nice Thai place every once in a while. Tonight I went with a very nice poke at the very chill and sanitary POKEMEN. This place has all of the ambience of an ice cream parlor. It's very stripped down very minimalist in it style. It is in a small strip center that appears to be populated mostly by finance companies and staffing agencies. It is a nice part of town, but not the best part of town. There is a nailed place and a Chiropractor I think. Let's get to the main event. The poke is awesome. I use brown rice as a base and then went with spicy tuna. I went large so I got four scoops of fish and let me tell you this was some really good poke. I added cucumbers, onions cilantro , pineapple, so mine had a really sweet flavor to it and I also had them put some tempura crunchy over the top of it. It was in my opinion the best bowl of poke I have ever had. That is saying something as I have had tuna poke all over the southeast And the West Coast and up the Atlantic seaboard. It is one of my favorite dishes. I think the fact that everything was ice cold, and the place was incredibly sanitary, added to my enjoyment. All of the vegetables were fresh. All of the fruit was cold. The fish was cold. The rice was the right consistency. Nothing was dried out, nothing was wilted, and everything tasted as it should. There were a lot of young people coming in having dinner, it's near an anytime fitness center so you do get to see a lot of fit young people that are enjoying a good healthy meal. They also have Ramen, it's a spicy Korean Ramen, which I wanted to have a small bowl of, but it only comes in one size bowl. It's not a huge, but it was more than I needed after having a large poke. I would go back again and again, this is my third trip to this restaurant in the last two years, I think it's a good place and I recommended. read more

Confused why the rating is so darn high. Confused where the "Hawaiian" choices are. Confused why the rice for the bowls was warm but all other add-ins (including proteins!) are all cold. Confused what the strange taste in the water/ice is. Bowls tasted OK, restrooms were fairly clean. But we left....confused. read more

The five-star reviews are a bit overrated, but you'll certainly have a tasty poke bowl here. I've eaten five-star poke in Hawaii and California, so let's be realistic. But for a small chain in Alabama, it's not bad, fairly priced, hearty, and flavorful. The food is healthy and reasonably tasty, starting with a base of either rice or a spring mix. Depending on your level of hunger and financial means, you can top that with two, three, or four scoops of protein, choices including classic selections like tuna and salmon, and even options from tofu to octopus. The fourteen toppings range from delicious imitation crab meat and seaweed to authentic toppings like edamame (soybean pods) and masago (fish eggs). Among nine sauces, the Korean spicy sauce has a major kick, but I'd recommend their magnificent ponzu. You can even add a few extras like pickled ginger, furikake (a dried fish topping), tempura flakes, and fried onions. At $15 for the medium bowl, it's a reasonable price for a filling meal and pretty good quality. Came to Auburn with my freshman son for orientation. I looked on Yelp for recommendations and came upon Pokemen. I love poke bowls! I already tried the pokemen at Heyday market food court last time in town so wanted to venture somewhere new. Well a short drive to Tiger Square near Tiger town. Pokemen was a nice clean bright space for dine in as well as to go. Incredibly fresh ingredients and most friendly service! I got the medium bowl with 3 proteins of salmon, tuna and shrimp over field greens. The nice young man suggested a little brown rice over my greens for some texture so I said sure! I said every topping looked so good so he said he can give me a little bits of all assortments I chose wasabi shoyu and sweet chili on the side. He packed my food up to go with chopsticks, and plastic ware/napkin wrap up. Food was so good! My to go container"bowl" was huge! Bigger than my eat in bowl at Hey Day Market location. We ate here for a late lunch today. The place was empty but we figured it was because of the Auburn game and nearly everyone being on or around College Street. First off, the establishment was very clean and we were greated as soon as we walked through the door. A man who seemed to either be the manager or owner walked up and made small talk with us before ordering. We came for ramen but the poke bar nearly made us change our minds as everything looked fresh and very appetizing. However, we went with our original choice of ramen. Unfortunately, there were not a lot of ramen options. There were four different broths to choose from and only about 6 or 7 toppings with only one of those being a protien which was chashu (pork belly). We both ordered different variations of the ramen with all of the toppings plus an order of gyoza. Our food only took several minutes and was brought out to us nice and hot. The broth on the ramen was fantastic and the chashu was some of the best I ever had. The gyoza was also very good with all the elements of a perfect bite. Honestly, I was skeptical of Pokemen upon pulling up but I am glad I gave them a try. My only reccomendation is adding more protein choices to the menu for the ramen. I will definitely be going back to try the poke. So why only four stars you may wonder? Well not many place receive 5 stars from me and I have ate at several different ramen places from Atlanta to Orlando with a few of them good enough to make me want to relocate.. I loved my poke bowl! I'm weird and normally don't eat poke unless I'm close to a coast but I was craving it today. I was pleasantly surprised at how fresh the poke was and all the toppings! I REALLY wanted to love Pokemen because I miss Hawaiian poke bowls so much, but this place didn't do it for me. I got a small poke bowl, half ahi and half spicy ahi with a variety of toppings to choose from. The scoops are probably around 2oz and you get two scoops with a small bowl (which is overpriced in my opinion for such little amount of protein). The ahi was not "melt in your mouth" quality, it was an odd, dull tougher texture. The save grace of my bowl was that once I mixed it all together, the flavor profile was able to satisfy my craving regardless of the quality of fish. *the only reason I'm giving 3 stars vs 2* My husband ordered the Ramen with tonkotso broth TO GO and we didn't realize that the broth needed to be added to the HARD noodles for them to soften up (like glorified cup of ramen), so by the time he went to eat his meal, he had to wait even longer for it to "cook". Besides that misunderstanding, the ramen left a lot to be desired with flavor. Sadly, I'm going to have to keep looking around for my poke bowl spot. If you know what true Hawaiian poke is supposed to be, then this probably isn't going to be your place either. read more

I was SO excited to try this place! I love Poke bowls! I have eaten at so many places that have Poke bowls and this one rates somewhere in the middle. It was ok. I had 3 problems with this restaurant. 1) They don't fill up the bowl. As you can see from my picture the bowl is half filled and it is not cheap! 2) Avocados are $1 surcharge, what?!! This is new. I would understand if their poke bowls were cheap, but they are not. (About $11 for a small, $12 med, etc.) Avocados should be included. 3) I like seaweed, so I asked for another serving of seaweed and they gave me about 5 strands of seaweed. So my opinion is try it- it's good, but expect to need a snack later because this is not filling you up and it should for what they are charging. Went to Kroger the next day and discovered they are now selling Poke bowls and I bought a poke bowl for $9 and got a whole lot more for my $$. read more

We had tonkotsu ramen, salmon and spicy tuna poke bowls, spring rolls and gyoza. I forgot how much we paid, but 2 small poke bowls were $18.99 and the ramen is around $10. The pork broth was good, the kids enjoyed it and really liked the pork belly. As for the poke bowls, you assemble it how you like, the same way you would Chipotle. Two scoops of protein was plenty for me but if you're hungrier you can add more, or just add more toppings. Their ingredients are fresh and the sauces are great; I recommend the spicy Korean sauce. The staff is nice and helpful, and the inside is really clean and bright. They do close before 9, so keep that in mind. read more
