Me and my friends came here less than a month ago and the customer service was top tier. I don't know what happened this go round but the customer service was awful. Our server which was Steven. We were not difficult people and we do not ask for stuff out of the ordinary. At our table there were another group of people who received way better customer service than us. To start it took forever for him to bring drinks, soup, and salad out meanwhile we were seated less than 5 minutes after the other group. By the time we received our drink, soup, and salad the other group at our table were well finished and received a round refills on their drinks. Throughout our whole dinner we did not receive a refill on drinks nor were we asked. Upon asking for a to go box along with sauce we received an attitude. Every little thing we asked for we received an attitude. Overall this experience was terrible and it will be a while before I return to this location. Find somewhere else to eat. We were told that it would be 30 mins to be seated but it was nearly an hour. Once seated at the hibachi, it was another hr before the cook arrived. Food was decent but they need to hire more cooks. They only had one side of the restaurant open. If time is not a factor, you might have an ok experience. 3 hrs for a Japanese steakhouse is not for me. The cook was good though. read more

My family sat at a table, a person who identified himself as a manager said we could not sit in a table and had to move to a booth. I am a very large person and do not fit in a booth. For starters, this place gives entertainment & food at the same time which is great! The idea is amazing and the vibe you get inside is very comfortable. The workers hold conversations and seem interested in them. I love the service and if your a person who enjoys great customer service and actually cares for customer service to the point where it bases most of your opinion, this place is a 10/10 and I definitely recommend. HOWEVER...I also recommend if you have zero taste buds and enjoy unseasoned mediocre food. Cause' this place offers that too. I'm not the type of person to bitch, cry, and complain over bland food, except for when i'm paying $100 for two plates that neither me or my mother enjoyed. And in this case, that's what happened, so im gonna do that. ($130 something if you add my dads plate that we got To-Go.) So I came for an engagement celebration for my aunt. The guy had made a burning heart in the rice which was super nice! But...the food? It just tasted like food. No umph to it or anything special that would make me want to break the bank to go back. You'd be better off going to Famous Wok down at the mall‍ The only flavor it had was the sauce. There was no seasoning at all! The fried rice didn't have that "Fried Rice" flavor at all. First time visiting this location (Troy, Alabama was our first Mikata experience). We ordered the steak & chicken hibachi dinner, two dynamite rolls (add crunch $2 up charge each on the crunch) & a margarita on the rocks no salt. Basic nothing great with the hibachi... the cook was funny & friendly tho! Margarita required an additional shot ($6) no liquor in drink straight margarita mix initially. The waiter was nice, but we feel like the entire conversation revolves around upcharges & money... weird to have to keep talking about money while trying to order a meal. Unnecessary. This place was packed out on a Sunday night with almost all of the hibachi rooms filled with customers. But I'm not a huge fan of hibachi style food so what I come here for is the sushi. My favorite rolls I had were the Yummy Yummy roll, because its fried duh, and the Touchdown roll. The Lobster Roll was just OK and was basically a California roll with some lobster on top and a few sauces. The Eel Nigiri was so delicious I wish I could just have that but I notices that not many of the rolls they offer, well, none of them, really feature eel as the main event. Which if you have had BBQ eel sushi you know how sad that is because you're really missing out if you don't have at least one roll on the menu where its the star of the show. Mikata is a cute little Japanese restaurant off on Glenn. It has a romantic atmosphere suitable for a nice, simple date night. The furniture really sets the mood. There's also several rooms specifically for hibachi and a sushi bar. You basically have all 3 elements of Japanese food in one place. My friend and I ordered the Atlanta Roll and the Mikata Special Roll. The Atlanta Roll was definitely much better. I don't know how trained the chefs are because even as delicious as they were, they were cut poorly and unevenly. Finally I have found fried rice that doesn't glow, but it still looked strange. read more

I order here all the time and since it was raining today i decided to get it delivered. I paid 36 for the shrimp and seafood combo expecting it to come with fried rice because ive ordered it multiple times and it always comes with fried rice. When i received my order it was white rice so i called the delivery partner and they told me it was nothing i could do about the wrong order because Mikata won't fix it. I'm very upset because i spent so much money for something i could've made at home and they won't even fix it. I will not be ordering from here again and i will be telling everyone i know about this. read more

First time here, sushi was perfect temperature and came out with amazing presentation. I've eaten a LOT of sushi and this tops the charts for being in a town that doesn't seem to have a huge presence on the map. Definitely recommend this place to first time sushi go'ers, not much for seating but sit at the sushi bar for a view of all the yummy fresh fish. Looking for a good place to eat tonight and lets just say not great! The wait was not terrible but the food was at best a 1.5.. The rice was not hot or cooked very well. The cook said something about the grill not being hot enough but why is that my problem? The filet was bland and not cooked to medium per my request. I have always enjoyed my experience at Mikata. I usually just eat the sushi at the sushi bar but I do like the hibachi items. The drinks are good and the service is good. Nothing too terribly exceptional about this hibachi restaurant, but they serve reliably great food in a comfortable atmosphere. They do not have a ton of grills, so it may be a small wait to get a table on the busier nights. They have good beer and drink specials, along with the occasional food deal as well. Best sushi and hibachi restaurant in town, and this places is not rivaled by any other establishment. The service is always great, and this place gets insanely packed during the weekends, and football season. The wait isn't usually too bad, but there may be seats available at the sushi bar or entertainment (bartender's) bar. The bartenders are personable and very welcoming. The chiefs are highly skilled, and they take pride in their craft, and it always shows when they are performing for the table (and the food is really good). There is always so much joy among the customers, if just enhances the social environment, whether you're enjoying your time at a table or sitting at the bar. read more

Adult drinks will send your bill over the edge, but for an occasional splurge with good friends, we like Mikata. There is one minor thing. Prices were outrageous when compared to other Japanese restaurants in the area. Charged us 18.5% tip because we had 3 couples but each couple paid their own bill. $10 to sing happy birthday. This was the worst meal......well maybe ever. First we were told we could sit at a table and get the same food without the show. We were good with it. After sitting for 10 to 15 a chef, heading to a table, saw us and got us some help. The cabbage was terrible, the vegetables had no flavor. The chicken had no real flavor, the steak was a terrible cut and tuff as leather, and the shrimp were bland. If this is the same experience the chefs prepare at the show....no thank you. May never go back. Three of us ate and it was all terrible. A one dollar frozen dinner would have been better. No joke! I can't think of a worse meal. Ever. First one star ever. Went here for dinner the other night, and I don't know if it was just an off night or what, but it didn't quite live up to what I'd expected. I've definitely had better hibachi before. I had the salmon/scallop hibachi, and somehow the salmon was a bit dry - too much like tuna, while scallops were okay. They charge extra for fried rice, which is odd when you are already paying around $20 for an entree (and they don't have the option for noodles, which I would have really liked). The veg was a bit too salty. Also, what was surprising was my simple polite request for a knife was declined! I don't know if you can't have a knife while eating in Japanese culture, but they do make good swords; maybe I should have asked for one of those. All in all, I expected a bit more, and didn't come out happy. I might go back to try the sushi at some point. read more

New Sushi Chef!!!!! On a recent visit to Auburn, I was pleasantly surprised to find out a new sushi chef was behind the sushi bar. New rolls and great tasting sushi. We had sushi three nights in a row. My favorite rolls are the Spicy Girls, Tsunami Roll, and the Flame Roll. Flame Roll might be one of the spiciest rolls I've ever tasted. I've been to Juliana and won't go back, Fuji is ok but now Mikata is the place to go for sushi in Auburn. My only complaint is the sushi seating. You can eat the drinking bar, the sushi bar,sit on couches but there really aren't many tables set up for sushi. This would be a big add to the place. ' read more

As far of teppan places go in Auburn, this is by far, the best. The sauces blend well with what was served, your steak will not be overcooked, and the teppan chefs are funny. It's a bit pricey, but I love the food. read more
