It is a National Historic Landmark. In addition to the beautiful waterfront views, another beautiful feature here is the water fountain that operates in warm seasons and reaches heights of up to 150 feet. This park also has the Fort Pitt Museum, which explores the region's history during the French and Indian War and the American Revolution; and the Fort Pitt Block House, which was built in 1764 and is the oldest surviving structure in Western Pennsylvania. How can you not enjoy this Park and the walk back to the North Side? The Allegheny meeting the Mon to make the Ohio . Acrisure Stadium. The bridges. The fountain. Do you see the incline? The mist from the fountain? I love walking along the Allegheny but it is very special to come here. Be sure to walk back towards the Warhol or Clemente Bridge to see the black murals. This might be geographically the best positioned city park I've ever visited. Quite a statement, I know, but there was something genuinely arresting about sitting at the confluence of three major rivers - the Allegheny, the Ohio and the Monongahela - and punctuating the green space with an unshielded fountain that shoots water 150 feet into the air (Photo 10). The park is not that big, just 36 acres. When I visited just before the dead of winter, I was struck how empty it was, especially the Great Lawn where I would've expected more adventurous urban travelers to be tramping about. But no, it was mostly just me enjoying the views of the surrounding city including the Fort Pitt and Fort Duquesne bridges. Point State Park used to be THE place for events. So many festivals were held here, special events, finish line festival for races. Recently, in the interest of preserving the land, the amount of events has been dramatically reduced. Some have complained about it, but to me it adds to the appeal of the park. Pittsburgh is famous for its "point" and the park is how you experience it! It is really cool to be at the convergence of the two rivers into the third river! There are some great paths around the point along with many grassy areas and some benches which are great for people watching, sitting and reading or enjoying a nice picnic. And, of course, there is the fountain! That is the area that gets the busiest and you see everything from prom and wedding photos to proposals and families just enjoying time together. On windy days, you might catch a spray from the fountain. This is a perfect spot to visit when looking for a little oasis but also still enjoying being in the city. read more

One of the nicest urban parks I have ever been to. The park is situated between two rivers, at the "point" of downtown and offers beautiful water views all along the paved walking/biking paths. It is kept spotlessly clean (including the restrooms) and there are lots of well placed benches. This park is one of my favorite parks ever. It's a gem and I have to bring everyone who visits here. You get such a beautiful view of pittsburgh and it's always so chill here next to the rivers. The fountain is on most of the year and is beautiful too. I love that you can walk along the triangle and end up next to the bridges. Beautiful scenery. Nestled on the heart of Pittsburgh where the three rivers join. Amazing views of the city and the ballparks. Clean ground. Well maintained. Beautiful fountain. Despite being one of the most iconic spots in Pittsburgh, I feel like a lot of people don't think to visit. It can be nice to look down over the rivers from Mt. Washington, but Point State Park is a peaceful place to stop if you'll be in downtown Pittsburgh. History buffs will enjoy the Fort Pitt Museum, and anyone will enjoy the grassy lawn and sitting by the fountain to get a breeze off of the rivers on a summer day. Consider grabbing lunch to go from one of the local spots downtown and heading over to eat by the water. Just don't be surprised if a few ducks or bunnies are eyeing up your fries. read more

There's an inexpensive paid parking lot on Commonwealth Place about 0.2-miles south of the South Point Park. There's probably a small amount of street parking on the side streets, but we used the parking lot. There's also a dropoff area on Commonwealth right up next to the park, with some benches where we waited for those who parked. About another 0.2-miles into the park, you'll find a snack bar, Café at the Point, on this side of the underpass. Grab an inexpensive cool water or soda, and maybe a snack, and continue another half a mile to the fountain at the fork of the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers. Most of this walk across the park is in the sun, but there's plenty of trees around the sides for shade, where many people picnic. There's also a shaded path along the Allegheny River. There's a number of benches along the waterfront, some with shade. After playing around the fountain, and flying a kite in the open space until we crashed it, we sat along the Allegheny, listening to a concert from the Acrisure Football Stadium across the river, and watching tour boats and all sorts of private crafts, many pausing for the free live music. It's quite pleasant. I suggest some planning for anyone with limited mobility, as it's a bit of a hike. read more

After being in the area for close to 2 years, I finally had a moment to check it out with the rest of my family. We even checked out the museum. The museum was well laid out and very clean. The staff that greeted us at the door was helpful and nice. The surrounding park has spectacular views of Mt Washington and the stadiums. It was well kept and felt like a get away from the bustling city. We went in the late morning and it was not quite packed yet which was nice. read more

just like Duquesne incline, this park is the face of Pittsburgh. it is in the heart of Pittsburgh, the "Golden Triangle" at the junction of the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers. At the tip of the triangle is Point State Park, with one of the country's largest fountains, symbolizing the birth of Ohio. In more recent times, the park was integral to the rebirth of Pittsburgh's downtown from the 1950s through the 1970s. Point State Park was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1975 and is listed on the National Historic Register of Historic Places as part of the Pittsburgh Renaissance District. The tip of Point State Park features an 800,000-gallon fountain that sprays water 150 feet into the air. The views are great. You can walk along a portion of the Three Rivers Heritage Trail and take in views of the rivers. It's a little bit hard to find parking nearby the park (especially if there's a football or baseball game about to start - that happened to us), but the views are special and the park is worth a visit if you're nearby. read more

One of the first things I think about when I hear "Pittsburgh" is Point State Park. People that live in the city AND people in the suburbs all know (and love) "The Point"! This is one of my favorite parks and public green spaces in Pittsburgh. Point State Park is accessible by walking or biking only. You can park in a garage or get free street parking after 6 PM, and walk right in front of the Wyndham. The park is well maintained and there are benches surrounding the large grassy area where you can find people having picnics, playing frisbee, or sitting and reading on a hot summer day. Once you walk under the little overpass, you see the Fort Pitt Museum and the Point fountain in the distance. Many people don't realize that there are little trails between the grassy area and the Allegheny and Mon rivers. It is very peaceful to explore the little trails and see/smell the flowers. There are also public restrooms that are kept super clean right along the river. Once you get to the fountain, it is usually a little more rowdy (kids running around, many tourists, people jogging). This is my perfect place to take a blanket and relax. There are a few trees if you are looking for shade, but for the most part it is exposed to full sun. "The park commemorates and preserves the strategic and historic heritage of the area during the French and Indian War (1754-1763). Point State Park is a National Historic Landmark. DCNR works in collaboration with the Heinz History Center and the Fort Pitt Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution to interpret the history of the Forks of the Ohio. The location of Fort Duquesne is marked by a granite tracery (outline) within the Great Lawn. The center of the tracery contains a bronze medallion depicting the fort. The locations of four of the five bastions, projecting parts of the fortification, of Fort Pitt have been delineated." If visiting Downtown Pittsburgh for the first time, allocate some time to visit this relaxing park. A short stroll around the perimeter offers waterside views with sights of bridges, including the Fort Pitt Bridge, West End Bridge, and Fort Duquesne Bridge. A couple of historic landmarks, such as the Fort Pitt Block House and Fort Pitt Museum, are present as well. At the tip of the park is the Point State Park Fountain. It is an impressive sight of water jetted 150-feet up to the sky. The fountain is scheduled to be turned on at 8 AM, although was a few minutes late the day of my visit. A picturesque spot especially with the Ohio River and city landscape in the backdrop. The Duquesne Incline can be seen running from here. I reached the park with an early 15-minute morning walk from the hotel. The area was clean and felt safe. A police car was even patrolling around. Most of the people there were walking their dogs, jogging, or biking. The park itself is not that large and so I spent less than a half-an-hour. read more

We went there for few day's over the Fourth of July weekend last year, got to see amazing firework display outside of Hotel window, their Restaurant upstairs is absolutely amazing and the food is fantastic, you can hop the Gateway Clipper too. read more

There's a decent amount of green space, and I love the fountain at the end. There is some parking available (paid) or street/metered parking. I wasn't able to stop by the Fort Pitt site but would love to in the future as it's an interesting piece of history. read more

Point State Park is a can't-miss oasis of lush greens and historical importance in downtown Pittsburgh. It's home to a massive central fountain, Fort Pitt Blockhouse, plenty of clean benches, and other attractions. I visited in April but it felt like August. Despite the heat, I spent a considerable amount of time in the park, taking photos of flowers, trees, and the fountain from every possible direction. It's also cool to check out the convergence of three rivers -- the Allegheny, Monongahela, and the start of the Ohio River. I don't think I've ever seen something like that before. Because of its proximity, it's easy to walk to shops downtown (I did not), or across one of the bridges to another part of the city. That's what I did, since I was limited on time and wanted to see the Mexican War Streets, Southern Tier Brewing, and the Andy Warhol Musuem (which were all a short walk away). I'd say this park is a good starting point to get ahold of your surroundings or to just relax. read more

After a day of sightseeing in downtown, I managed to get to Point State Park just as the sun was setting. This made for a bit of a spookiness since there really isn't a tremendous amount of streetlighting here in the park. Because it was Small Business Saturday, my parking was free on the street. There's also a spendy paid lot. Here at PSP is where the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers meet and form the Ohio River. They two rivers drain a big piece of the Appalachian Mountains from the areas of upstate New York and from West Virginia so it's a big and wide river. If you're lucky, a tugboat pushing a barge will be going past. Great views of the city that can't be beat from river level! read more

Such a big, beautiful park! We visited during probably one of the busiest times of the year, and it was very clean and the view was amazing! There's a huge fountain that's near the waterfront, which was so refreshing to see on a hot summer day. There were A LOT of people on their boats just hanging around too, which was cool to watch.
