A very nice place to walk in the fall months. You can walk along the resourvair or around the many paths available. Good place for jogging or dog walking. The trees are in full Autumn mode right now

I rented a pavilion for the Labor Day weekend and I was so impressed with the experience in its entirety. Our pavilion was $116 for the entire day. Heads up - there is no option to reserve the park for a set amount of time. Your reservation is for the entirety of when the park is open to the public whether you use it or not. Our pavilion was incredible. We had plenty of tables under the shelter for food and games. The grills worked well but are HUGE so bring more charcoal than you think you need. We had so much empty green space around us for running around and were also located near a trailhead. The trailhead looked a bit dangerous and poorly maintained. There was a porta potty near the road close enough to our shelter to be accessible but far enough away to not smell or notice it when enjoying the tables and grill. All in all, this park is so beautiful and the pavilions allow you to go deeper into the park and explore all of the surrounding natural beauty, not just what you see at the main entrance. I can't recommend spending a day here enough!

I have been enjoying this park for many years. I particularly like the hiking trails and I sometimes swim in the pool. They have a great Summer music series on Sunday nights at 5 pm. The musicians are always excellent. You can stay for line dancing, because the teacher is excellent and it's a Sunday night tradition. Lots of people like to walk around the reservoir, although I much prefer a nature trail. The fountain is nicely landscaped. There are picnic pavilions you can reserve and rent.

Beautiful spot for a picnic, run, walk or just hanging out with friends. The park is huge and it's just beautiful everywhere. They have sand volleyball courts somewhere too and there's a city rec team that plays there sometimes and it's really fun!

Who could not love this park?!? They have lots of space to get exercise, loads of lovely flowers in their garden, super large playground for the kids, a goose/duck pond, picnic areas, a reservoir, cute squirrels and wild life, jazz aerobics, statues and tennis courts.

Beautiful day this past Sunday for an afternoon walk. When we arrived there was a Park's Department person re-directing traffic to park outside of the park as there was some sort of event going on later that evening. We quickly found parking and joined the throngs of people 'social distance' walking there way around the park loop. Given Coronavirus, all the the sports equipment and pavilions were closed off, but that didn't stop us from getting a little exercise while we enjoyed the blooms and springtime scenery. The Reservoir is closed off due to long-term construction, but benches and main fountain/square were still open and accessible. We thoroughly enjoyed our time and hope to come back when more of the amenities are open and available for use.

I had a good visit to Highland Park. I visited during a gorgeous summer evening. Unfortunately, the reservoir portion was closed (due to COVID restrictions I believe). There were several large gatherings in the pavilions (and it looked like there was also a festival of some kind) but on the trails and the walkways around the park were generally very spaced out with everyone observing social distancing. Highland Park is a great city park with a bonus that there are several great restaurants nearby :)

Highland Park is that park that you don't know about in the city. I assume this is because when everyone refers to Highland Park they are talking about the neighborhood section of the city. Or maybe they are referring to the zoo? Who knows for sure, but when someone asks me to go to a park in the city of Pittsburgh, I don't usually think of Highland Park. There are many reasons that I could list for my reasons of not coming here, but let's face it, the main reason was I was too lazy to venture this way because there were other parks nearby. How dumb of me to be that ignorant. HP is quite a relaxing place to visit. Most people go to the park for exercise, walking and biking. Not me, I usually end up at a park because I want to clear my mind. I'm a people watcher as well. Sometimes I'll just sit on a bench and read a book as well. The best place for that here is near the fountain. It is a place that you can lose yourself at and lose track of time. I caught myself staring at the water and just taking in the warmth of the sun. For some reason everyone I came across while in this park was friendly. They greeted you with a smile and made small talk. Other than that small talk you could find yourself wandering around with not a care in the world. **around the reservoir is a mile I am told. Off the Leash area for your doggos.**

Good size pool, pretty clean. Lots of life guards on duty & most seem to be fairly attentive. $5 for day pass or $30 for the season.

Great place to take a walk and explore. I usually come here to play volleyball in the sand courts. There's 4 courts that are well maintained that are next to the pool and a dog park. Parking is never an issue. Worth a visit on a nice day!

One of my favorite parks in Pittsburgh! I love waking along the reservoir (but please don't bring your pets at the top of the reservoir...there's a fine if you do. Bottom half is fair game) I think if you walk around 2 times you've walked a mile (I'm horrible at estimating distances so don't quote me). Lots of neighborhood locals to run into.

Walking and relaxed. So nice and safe. You hears water sounds and winds blowing on the branches. Really nice.

Any grills or grilling approved areas here?

I rented a pavilion and there was a grill at the location by the pool. We grilled and took care of our charcoal after.

It is incredible to have such a large natural area surrounded by the energy of the city. The park offers a pool, playgrounds, skating rink, pavilions, and other activities throughout, but the highlight is the extensive network of trails. There are so many paths to explore that you could spend an entire day walking here and still discover something new. Panther Hollow Trail is one of my favorites. It runs through much of the park, is beautifully shaded, and is a great option on hot, sunny days when you want to enjoy the outdoors without being in direct sunlight the entire time. The main trail is wide, well-graveled, and easy to navigate for groups, walkers, and people with pets. It also connects to other trails throughout the park, including the Bridle Trail and Three Rivers Heritage Trail. Anderson Playground is another unique feature, with its three-tier fountains and creative playground equipment. There are also porta potties throughout the park, which makes spending several hours exploring much easier. One of my favorite things about Schenley Park is that every visit feels different. You can walk around, find new areas, see different activities happening, and create new memories each time. I have enjoyed many walks here with different friends over the years, and it remains one of my favorite places in Pittsburgh to enjoy nature, sunshine, and time outdoors.

Riverview Park has one of the largest and most extensive trail systems in the Pittsburgh area. With…read moreso many interconnected trails winding through different neighborhoods, it's easy to have a different experience every time you visit. I also like that you can step into a nearby neighborhood and grab something to eat before continuing your hike. Compared to Schenley or Frick Park, it also tends to be less crowded, making it a great option if you're looking for a quieter, more peaceful walk. That said, the trails are not as well maintained as many of Pittsburgh's other parks. Some sections are in great condition, while others have overgrown vegetation, uneven rocky terrain, steep drop-offs, and occasional hazards like broken glass. I noticed small pieces of glass along the Archery Trail, so I would recommend wearing hiking boots or sturdy athletic shoes rather than thin-soled sneakers. Because of the terrain, I think this park is much better suited for walking and hiking than for running. Most of the trails are not wheelchair accessible and may be difficult for young children, older adults, or anyone with mobility challenges. Even with the overgrowth, the scenery is beautiful, and many areas were filled with fragrant plants and wildflowers. I didn't personally see any poison ivy during my visit, but it's always a good idea to stay aware of your surroundings. One area that could definitely be improved is restroom access. There are very few restrooms throughout the park, and one restroom that had been open during a previous visit was locked in the middle of the day on a Sunday. Adding a few portable restrooms near the busiest trailheads would make a big difference for visitors. Parking is easier than I expected. While there aren't many dedicated parking lots, there is plenty of street parking throughout the surrounding neighborhoods. Depending on which trails you choose, you may also come across areas where unhoused individuals have set up encampments. During my visits, everyone kept to themselves and I didn't have any negative interactions, but it's something visitors should be aware of and another reason to stay aware of your surroundings in such a large urban park. The observatory has unfortunately been closed each time I've visited, but the park frequently hosts community events that are worth checking out. It's encouraging to see ongoing improvements, and I hope the city continues investing in this park because it has so much potential. Overall, Riverview Park is a beautiful place to explore and one of Pittsburgh's most expansive trail systems. While there are areas that could benefit from better maintenance, additional restrooms, and continued safety improvements, it's still well worth visiting. With a little more attention, I truly think it has the potential to become one of the best parks in Pittsburgh.

It's a total hidden gem on the North Side. Because of how heavily wooded and steep it is, you instantly feel like you're deep in the woods even though you're only a few miles from downtown. The hiking trails are excellent, especially if you want a bit of a workout on the hills; and since it gets way less foot traffic than the other major city parks, it's incredibly quiet and peaceful. The real crown jewel, though, is the historic Allegheny Observatory sitting right at the top of the hill. It looks amazing against the trees, and they actually run awesome, free night tours where you can look through the old telescopes if you call ahead for a reservation.
