Time to update my review to let you know that now is the time to visit this park. The Spring wildflowers are such a grand display in this specific park. The rest of my previous review, I'll just copy and paste for all the information I previously posted. This is a wonderful secluded get-away-from-it-all community park in Murrysville moments away from the hustle and bustle of daily traffic on US-22. Coming from Monroeville, take a right at the Sheetz gas station on School Rd (and from Murrysville, take a left). The entrance and parking lot are on your right. The acreage is slightly less than 150 acres and contains about 5 miles of hiking trails with one trail about 1.5 miles long which is wider and consists of gravel for bicycles and walkers. The trails include several hills for a good work-out over a short distance but it's not all steep hills. It's heavily wooded and known for its wildflowers. In the Spring, you'll be able to witness Jack in the Pulpit, trout lily, and red and white trillium to name only a few. Living in Monroeville, this is my "go-to" park for a quick weekly rendezvous after work with the Pittsburgh Hiking Meetup group every Wednesday. Check them out: https://www.meetup.com/pittsburghhikers/ They're a very welcoming group for hikers of varying ages and walking speeds. Other noteworthy mentions: Park closes at dusk Plenty of parking Park pavilion which you must reserve and rent. I have never done that. See the link here: http://murrysville.com/rental-reservations/?page=calendar&venueid=8 Dogs must be leashed or otherwise controlled (remaining in sight of the owner and must return promptly to the owner upon command). Note this rule applies to all Murrysville municipal parks. And if you come with a Pittsburgh Hiking Meetup group, all dogs must be leashed, per their rules. As other reviewers have stated this is not the kind of park with a playground or ballpark and such. It's mostly for cyclists/walkers/hikers. Duff Park seems to be the go-to park in Murrysville for the local community. It offers several miles of hiking and biking trails complete with benches for sitting and enjoying the surrounding woods. The park is easy to find just off 22. However this is also a con as I heard traffic almost the whole time I was here. The park has a lot of wide open space for hiking. However this also means trails can be difficult to follow. Some of the trails are blazed which makes navigating easy. But then some of them aren't and if you're not paying attention it's possible to get lost. I use the word "lost" loosely though as at any point it seems you'd eventually find either a road or another trail to follow. I noticed several tree markers and used them to guide me along as well. If you're unfamiliar with the park I'd recommend having a map handy so you don't accidentally end up on the other side of the park wondering where your car is. The park map can be found online (http://www.murrysvilletrails.org/park_trails_duff.htm) and at the entrance to the park. Despite a few drawbacks, Duff Park is a beautiful park. If you're looking for some elevation in your hikes but nothing too challenging this is a good place to explore.

This place was phenomenal to getaway and walk the trails. I recommend it for anyone who needs to just get a workout in and enjoy some time away from the busy life.

Access to Duff park is right off Rt. 22 at School Rd's Sheetz. This park offers beautiful forested hiking trails/ cross country skiing, and most important: a place to feel secluded from the day to day city life. Coming soon: connection to Pleasant Valley Park, which is already possible, but requires some bushwhacking. Yesterday we did a loop of each park and connected crossing Forbes Rd. Also the train right of way along Turtle Creek side of Duff Park is going to become a rails to trails It should connect Monroeville to Saltsburg in the near future! Neither Duff or Heritage Parks have playgrounds or swing sets, so kids should be interested in hiking activities. People tend to let dogs off leash.

The crunching of the dead leaves beneath my boots and the scent of autumn breathes life back into my tired, city-saturated soul.

So peaceful best place to get in some exercise and clear your head all in one. The trail by the creek is so tranquil!

Dead Man's Hollow - The first early signs of Spring! It looks like it will be a good one. Beautiful crocus flower near the catfish pond area.

The ruins of an old pipe factory are very visible and there are informative signs that tell the story. These occurrences took place in the 1800's. There is history of criminals murdered, accidental death(pipe factory), a hanging, an explosion, a drowning, a giant snake sighting, all taking place in the park. For this reason many people think that the sight is haunted by the people who met their fate here. I hate to burst the excitement, but I have never experienced ghosts, or any other paranormal activity while spending time there. In fact, despite it's dark past Dead Man's Hollow is a very tranquil place. If you have been there during May when Spring season really kicks off you will see tons of wildflowers that are spectacular. The pipe factory had a fire and the ground was burned. This happens to be very good for re-growth and as a result we get to experience a lot of beautiful flora. Also, the old pipe factory remains are covered with cool graffiti. The trails are at times narrow, but they are very clean. You are at some point going to climb up and down hills, so it is a very good workout. I would say that the hiking is a bit more challenging. To find it I would suggest searching via a trailhead name and not just the park name. One example would be "cat fish pond trail." There is a nice parking area near that trailhead. There is also another parking area on the other side of the park(more on that later). This other side is closer to the ruins.

The spots that are open are at an incline sloped towards the pond and are very slippery and hazardous. I do not recommend taking young kids there. My daughter and I fished for an hour or so and only saw bluegill in the 3-4" range and smaller minnows. We used lures and worms and had many bites but the fish were too small to get hooked. We did see many water turtles and even a few babies whose shell was about 2-3" in diameter. We also saw one large snapping turtle appear for a few seconds. There are also a bunch of bullfrog minnows whose bodies were the size of golf balls (early June). It's a cool place to see but we won't be returning to fish.
