Poilâne boulagerie was as good as expected. We tried the croissant and was fresh and excellent. It's a stone throw from Eiffel Tower. Definitely a highlight of our trip in Paris for my wife

Staying in nearby Montparnasse, decided to grab pastries and croissants here to take back to my hotel to indulge with throughout the day. As others mentioned, I highly recommend you come as early as possible for not only the freshest pastries but also just to smell inside the bakery. The yeasty smells from fresh baked bread should literally be boxed up and taken with you everywhere. The girls who worked there spoke great English and after carefully trying hard not to purchase the whole store I picked our plain croissants, a load of brioche and a tub of butter (which was about $8 euros but worth it). While prices may seem high you're paying for top quality and probably some of the best baked goods you'll ever have.

This bakery was the starting point of a food tour by Paris by Mouth (https://parisbymouth.com) I took in the summer of 2016. We only tried one pastry (apple) as a sample. It was good, but not a WOW. I bought some cookies for souvenir. They are also good but nothing amazing. I just visited here again in March 2017. I asked one of the people working here for her recommendation. She strongly recommended their flan (picture). I love sweets, but I couldn't finish even half of it. Because of my so-so experiences and their prices, I don't think I will try them again. There are many other bakeries I want to try in Paris. So, I suggest that you try them, but if it's not your liking, I suggest that you move on to a different bakery. ****************************** If you found something useful in my review, please hit "useful." Had breakfast at Poilâne and I must say I was a bit disappointed. It wasn't bad, but considering the raving reviews of this place, it didn't meet my expectations. Food: we ordered the complete breakfast (Switched our the croissant for a chocolate croissant), the toast with egg and cheese, an apple turnover, and the croissant+coffee combo. The food was mediocre, nothing too special or life changing. The croissant was good. Very fluffy and extremely buttery... but it was cold. All the pastries we ordered were COLD, which was extremely sad. Considering we sat down to eat, I would have expected them to heat it up for us. It truly would have made the biggest difference. The toast with egg and cheese was the only warm thing and it was yummy but definitely not worth the price we paid for it. Atmosphere: we were one of the first ones at the store and they seated us in a corner in the back where we later had to share the table with other customers. It was not an ideal situation.

My favorite croissant in Paris! Saw this recommended on quite a few locals' guides to Paris, so knew I had to make a stop here. It was about a 10 minute walk (max) from the Metro through a very cute neighborhood, filled with lots of shops and boutiques. This location is also close to Pierre Herme if you're looking to hit up all of Paris' famous dessert spots. I got a simple croissant, which cost me 2 euros. The employees didn't speak English very well (understandable and anticipated!) but a simple "je voudrais une croissant" sufficed. The croissant itself was magical - super flakey and buttery and warm!! I was unfortunately only in Paris for 2 days, otherwise would have come back and eaten many baguettes.

Wonderfully and inimitable dense textured rustic sourdough country loaf that has captured me, line hook and sunk!!!! Weighing in at 4 pounds, this 3 step process requiring a full 5 hours in the full to rafter basements (lucky Patricia Wells got to tour the basement and provided photos online) are wonderfully nutty, rich, dark, and awesome with slathered melted butter! One of the most famous breads in the world, Poilâne bread is made from whole grain and stone-milled wheat flour, seasoned with sea salt,& raised wholly sans yeast or preservatives! Finally, rounds are baked in a wood burning oven to glorious fruition. Yummmmmm----Acme sells some loaves that approximate that wonderful dark melding of wheaty goodness. France's most celebrated bread round, to be sure! & don't you dare forget about their OTT punitions cookies if you're gonna brave that queue anyway!!! Ps there's an outlet in Japan?!!!

This is the place to go for 3 things: 1) Punitions/Sables. These are a butter cookie that they make, which EVERYONE loves. I have to bring everyone in my family home their own giant bag whenever I go to Paris. They go great with a little jam or Nutella on them too. 2) Miche. This is their country loaf. It's made using a natural yeast fermentation process using an extremely old starter dough. Packed with SO much flavor! This is my favorite bread for toast in the morning, or to add jam or Nutella on as an afternoon snack. It's also great for sandwiches. 3) Croissants. Super buttery and flakey. You'll love them! Bonus is the apple galette from time to time.

Great breakfast spot! Came here because of the good reputation and it was indeed delightful. I had their brioche - with an egg inside and melted cheese on top - as well as their apple tart. I liked both, and the thick toasted brioche was the most delicious. The service was efficient and pleasant. Really nice staff - my server was cool, although she wouldn't stop speaking to me in English (I'm trying to practice the little bit of French I know LOL!). Going to have to buy bread and pastries from their bakery section sometime!

The anticipation of visiting Poilâne is almost too much to handle, however once you arrive it's magical! The breads, the baked goods, the savory delights and accessories are just wonderful! I start with an entire, yes that's right an entire loaf (no judging)of the signature loaf of bread and we are set for a couple of days, just add cheese, ham and wine!

This is always on our "must-visit" list whenever we are in town. My main go-to is their punition cookies in any shape or form (my preferred is the spoon-shaped ones because of how convenient it is and you can make them last longer if you're a nibbler like me). They are also really well known for their sourdough bread as well. The interior space is rather cozy so you should really know what you're going to order and leave ASAP. Otherwise, it can get very claustrophobic inside. There's also a nice liked sit-down sister-restaurant next door that is a good brunch spot too!

Great place for lunch, very reasonably priced. The bread is so good you'll want to stop by the bakery next door to take home a loaf (or two) with you! Be aware, they do not take credit cards!

Excellent bakery, I would recommend the flan but any of the baked goods are excellent. No place to sit, only take out.

Try to arrive mid-afternoon when the apple turnovers are fresh out of the oven. All the regular gorgeous Poilâne sourdough breads, too.

The store is gorgeous and will immediately catch your eye, I knew I had to come see what was going on in here. I crossed over and walked in to find the most delightful le merveilleux. I ordered 3 minis which I trekked all over town for the day and later enjoyed for in the evening. They were delish! My advice would be don't trek all over town with them, enjoy them or store them to enjoy later. They were great but they are fairly delicate. These treats are super light and the perfect little treats. The mini size is perfect to enjoy several flavors. I'm a Los Angeles native and while many may say they haven't seen or heard of these le merveilleux before, we have a little French bakery at home called Le Mervetty that I've ordered cakes from and they make these. They are truly special, I've always felt that. If you're looking for a lovely treat, definitely stop in. Service was quick and friendly!

I got the sampler of 6 merengues in a cute box but I only got to try 3 as I shared the rest with our house host. My fave was the Magnifique - meringue coated in pralines. So light and airy as with the rest. The Merveilleux - chocolate was a bit too sweet for my taste what with the layers n layers of chocolate. I am not a fan of white chocolate so I did not like the Incroyable - white chocolate with speculoos. The shop have different branches in Paris as well as the train stations but we went to the one by the Moulin Rouge. It is right smack in the center of the street you wouldn't miss it with its very opulent chandelier hanging by the window. They make and bake their pastries on site as with each and every patisserie in Paris it seems. So everything is freshly baked!

Pure sunshine on a plate! Their legendary Opera Cake is a masterclass in precision-layers of almond sponge, coffee buttercream, and dark chocolate ganache harmonize into an elegant, rich symphony of flavors.
