We loved the picnic tables, red checkered table cloths. Seeing the high school football stars prominently displayed along the walls gave the place a true West Texas feel. A tip of the hat to pit master Israel Campos. His ribs were succulent and the juicy meat fell right off the bone! In addition, the ribs were perfectly seasoned with rub. They didn't need any sauce, however, there is a wide selection if you so choose. Mmmm so delicious. Daphne enjoyed her bacon green beans and potato salad. My taste test also approved of her selections. The hominy was really great. Thick and creamy, it had a little spicy kick to finish it out. The mac and cheese was standard, a little on the soupy side, but not bad. Definitely do the potato salad as a side! Make sure to wash down your meal with a solo cup of delicious sweet tea. The best BBQ in West Texas! Get there before it sells out. They most unique thing here is their chili cheese hominy. I have no idea how they make it, but it's magical. I'm not normally a fan of hominy, but this is worth a try. Their sausage is so-so and not made in house. The brisket, ribs and pulled pork are definitely where it's at. I have been in Texas for about six months - hit BBQ in Houston, Austin, San Antonio, etc. hands down - Pody's is my favorite so far! Plates are reasonably priced and the sides are very good! Keep it simple - I like it! More important than the food at times - the folks working there are all very nice and accommodating (not that I ask for much!). That said - the ribs are so tender and tasty! My only complain is that I was not given more with my order (I can't complain as I am stuffed!). The brisket is literally the most tender piece of meat I have ever eaten! Man that's good stuff! That said - remember to ring the bell on the way out! Ate a great BBQ beef lunch here today. I got there when it opened and there was a line of about 10 people in front of me ordering. It does not look like much form the outside, but you will notice all of the pickups and cars parked beside the place. Obviously popular, and busy. The BBQ beef I had was good, tasty. They have a nice sauce. The potato salad was good, but they only give you a tiny scoop of it. BBQ beans were lousy, tasted like right out of a can. They charge 35cents for jalapeños, pickles and onions- that ought to be illegal in a Texas BBQ restaurant. It is a good lunch place, not lots of choices in Pecos. I'll go again. Look, I've lived all over Texas and I have had Texas Monthly top bbq spots. I honestly have to say bbq is not my favorite food. However, Pody's is hands down mouthwatering slap your mom in the face good. The ribs are phenomenal and full of flavor. The brisket is out of this world! Seriously some of the best brisket I have ever had in my life. My husband would always tell me about this place and when I was finally working in the area I tried it and was very pleasantly pleased. Got a chance to try this place today. I've only looked at this place from the front and you would think it was closed, But the door is on the south side of the building. I got the three meat plate $17 and some change. Ribs, great smoke and fall off bone, sausage was really good as well. Also got the pulled pork not sure about it because I got full with the first two and the sides. I'll heat it up for supper and let you know I did take a few little bites and it seems up to par. What's out there in Pecos, TX? AMAZING BBQ (skip to paragraph 3 for the food review)!! Coming from Dallas, it was quite a drive, an anxious one at that, because I was sure they would be sold out by the time I got there - their answering machine tells you they don't pick up the phone til 1:30pm because they are so busy! So I get into Pecos at around 6:10pm, just 10 minutes after the start of dinner service and I feel pretty good about my chances to get some Pody's. But then, I miss the entrance...and again!! Slow down when your GPS says you're approaching because there aren't any signs except the faint yellow one on the building, which by the time you see it, you can only turn into the parking lot behind them (which I believe belongs to an apartment). So turn in where you see a bunch of cars! Dinner service sold out before 7pm on Tuesday and the narrow building was packed the whole time I was there. There's either no AC or very little AC - it was warm inside. Service was friendly and they let you order and stand off to the side to wait for your food which allows the line to move quickly so no one has to get a heat stroke waiting outside. Now, the food. I ordered brisket and pork ribs with chile cheese hominy and green beans. The hominy was delicious and the green beans were very standard as if out of a can and plain. The brisket was ok, but that might be because I had the FREAKIN AMAZING pork ribs first. The ribs were so full of juices that the meat could barely keep it in. If soft and melt in your mouth like butter on hot toast is your thing, then these ribs are for you. Let me not forget to mention how much meat is on each rib...these things are not the flat, pathetic looking kind, but the Arnold Schwarzenegger looking kind of pork ribs. YUM! I highly recommend them! Then, I had the brisket and it just couldn't compare, but I could still at least tell that the brisket was at least decent. The brisket we received was very fatty and I don't recommend eating that large amount of fat, regardless of how delicious it is, in one sitting. However, what I do recommend is for you to get on over to Pody's and get there early so you don't miss service!! read more

I tried the ribs, Mac & cheese and the potato salad. Ribs by far are the best I've had this far west. I got two to a half pound, with a lot of meat on em. That bone pulled out way better then my dad, father of 11 kids did. The potato salad is a tad to creamy for me. I'm just not a mayo person. I added mustard and it was a whole lot better. The Mac was very good. Not super cheesy but very fresh. I will return to try the other menu items. But for a quick bite in a rush, it hit the spot. read more

Many great reviews but we left disappointed I'm afraid. we came here early to avoid missing out on any options-about 5th in line. Got busy really quick. Staff taking all the expected Covid precautions. Ordered a three meat plate to share with the wife. Brisket, sausage, and turkey with double potato salad side. The brisket had a lovely smoke ring and well rendered fat. But the texture was overly soft and the bark was mushy from what was possibly condensation during holding. This combo was not to our liking. The flavor was nice and blended well with the sauce but overall disappointing. The sausage was bland by standards set at other Texas joints, just a little black pepper. Good not great. The turkey was really the most disappointing item. Light, light on any smoke flavor and I strongly feel this was a precooked piece of food service turkey placed in the smoker for a short time. Not what I expected. I worked in different aspects of the food/meat industry for almost 30 years and this had no resemblance to a typical raw turkey breast as you might see on a Thanksgiving table in texture or flavor. Possibly a supply difficulty or a Covid cost saving measure. That's somewhat understandable but if it's not what you would normally be serving, best to remove from the menu until better options available. We did like the potato salad very much and the sauce had a tasty flavor profile. The people who own and run Pody's are obviously doing all they can to put good Q out there but what we had on our visit didn't live up to Top 50 in Texas expectations. read more

The food is great, I had the three meat, the pork rib was my favorite, the brisket was great also, the sausage was good. The green chili hominy was delicious, and the green beans were good. The hot bbq sauce is really good. The service was great, the young lady at the register was helpful patient and also genuinely asked about where we were from, etc. you could tell she cared and was paying attention and wasn't flustered over the line. Very good barbecue in a charming little building...I loved the vibe of the place. I tried the 2 meat combo with sliced brisket and pork ribs. The plate comes with 2 sides, and I opted for their cheese pozole and green beans. The brisket was really tasty, with a nice amount of smoke. The ribs were some of the meatiest I've had in awhile. The pozole was really fun and different...basically hominy in a cheese sauce. Stopped here today after many hours of driving. From the outside, it didn't look like much. However as soon as we opened our car doors, we knew this would be good. It was close to closing time and we were the only ones in there. They great you warmly and quickly take your orders. We were both hungry and got the 2 meat plates. The pork ribs literally fell off the bone when you picked them up. The brisket was fantastic. Possibly the best side we've had at a BBQ place was the chili hominy. It was amazing. MR.: ribs were fall-off-the-bone tender and had a good, smokey flavor. Brisket was tender, had a good flavor, some of it was a little dry. Potato salad tasted good. Beans were okay--plain-Jane. Don't bother with the sausage--tasted like Hillshire Farms or something cheap. Ms.: Sweet tea was good. Outside of brisket had a nice peppery flavorful kick.
