Moving is stressful -- everyone feels vulnerable trusting all their valuable objects to one company. As a person who moves frequently, often without a certain address on the other end when I move, I thought I'd found the perfect moving company in PODS. That was the first time I used them, so yes, it is possible for things to work, if you have nothing unusual and you obey their timing. My first move it was easy to accommodate their schedule so it felt great. That was Dec 2022 But in December 2025 I realized THAT is the PODS biz model -- PODS is in control, you will obey them or you will never see your stuff again -- and yes, a customer service advocate actually made that threat to me when I was in the midst of trying to work through scheduling that PODS could not handle. PODS took two weeks from my scheduling date to get my things to me, not what I hoped but I rolled with it. PODS scheduled the drop off but would not let me schedule the pick up of the empty POD until that happened, and when I did, learned they could not pick up the empty POD for two weeks and just expected that would be okay. It was not. Problems have solutions -- and they claim they are here to help make moving easy. This is where they lost me forevermore. Instead of solving the problem, the customer service agent flaunted how much she was paid to ensure that I figured out how to accommodate their schedule or they would sell my stuff. How's that for customer service? I had to hire a truck, pay three movers for four hours to unload the POD, drive to my apartment and unload. That should have been two movers for one hour and no truck. PODS refused any discount or compensation. When I filed a complaint they conveniently lost it so had to start over when I followed up.a month later. When they finally realized I wasn't going away, they allowed me to file the complaint again and set a timer to deny it three days later, refusing any further appeal. At no point was there any acknowledgment that their marketing lies create problems and that while some customers may be able to work around PODS and it feels okay, as I did the first time, but make no mistake, PODS was in control. When that doesn't work, they don't care, they don't have to, and they will let you know that. For lack of empathy, or anything resembling customer service when any little deviation occurs, PODS fails and should be avoided. If you have to work with them only do it by phone with a live agent and confirm every date and time and the limits of timing of each local franchiser. The online system does not work no matter how much they tell you it will. And there is no love between the national operation and the local franchisers -- and the local franchisers will tell you that IF you can talk to them, the national call centers tries to prevent that, but when they can't deliver a service as they couldn't for me, I got to go to the local spot and chat. I did that in two other locations when I needed to visit my POD and they all had nasty things to say about how the call centers handle customers. Also: I was told by one of the agents that PODS authorized a $50 accommodation fee and I laughed -- then she said -- but then it was taken off the account. That's when they allowed the second complaint. Even after further review nothing was offered, not even the courtesy $50. How many businesses can treat people like that and survive? read more

Do not use PODS. After being lied to about price, and the day that the container would be delivered by almost a week, I chose a separate company. I used 1-800 Pack Rat and their customer service and so far drop off and pick up for me have been 10 times better. PODS told me they could have a container delivered on a specific date, only to turn around and tell me they don't have the ability to do so. Use someone else or do it yourself. read more

DON'T USE PODS! They lie or at least their reps don' don't know what they're talking about. I had 2 representatives tell me that I needed to order 2 pods and transfer my stuff from one to the other for storage at the storage center. Not true, caused me alot of stress. Then I picked a house just outside of their delivery area (nobody told me that they wouldn't deliver anywhere.) So I have to rent a truck and try to find someone to help me unpack there. My closing is on the 28th (Tuesday) and i have until the 31st or i will have to pay for another month of storage ($470). They are only open till 3 so I won't have anyone to help me because everyone I know works days. Perhaps hire someone? I see pods everywhere so I thought they were reputable. Lots of bait and switch! I am not one to leave bad reviews, but I have had a horrible experience with PODs and I don't want anyone else having to experience similar issues. i ordered a POD to help prepare for a relocation. Great for organizing the garage and sorting. Helped us prepare for a move, but got complicated when we didn't use their relocation service and tried to return the empty POD back to them. When I used their supposedly easy on-line tool to schedule a pick-up of the empty POD, their system would not let me schedule pick up of an empty POD but instead tried to schedule it for storage and additional charges. I contacted their customer service to confirm that the POD was empty and did not need to be stored. They agreed and confirmed that no additional charges were due. Lucky for me I wrote down the confirmation number from that conversation. The driver picked up the POD, clean, empty and unlocked on November 19th. We packed up our home a began the process of moving from Washington to Georgia. THEN THE FUN BEGAN -- Two weeks later while en route to our new home, PODS tried to charge my account for the next service month. I called their customer service team with the reference number from my last call. They agreed the mistake was on their end and confirmed that no charges were due and reached out to their accounts payable team. Next day they tried to charge my account again. Their customer service team is clearly not able to handle basic requests -- they were nice but incompetent. While on hold their AI system hung up on me!!! Finally spoke with someone in their billing department who still insisted that I had a POD in storage. i provided her with the two confirmation codes from the previous calls and they supposedly voided the charges. Again, thought things were good. Had to cancel my debit card with my bank to avoid additional charges from PODs because they couldn't manage things on their end. VERY EXPENSIVE. Service request was simple. Delivery was simple. BUT agents have no concept of size needed. Small 7foot does not hold king size bed mattress. Thanks to local office who delivered a 16foot all my items fit in pod. It was a classic bait and switch that doubled my costs. Update: I opened a case and asked PODS to pick up the empty container by the closing date for the sale of my house. In the end, they were able to get it picked up when I needed it done. Overall, I'm satisfied with the outcome. MOVERS BEWARE!!! HIRE MOVERS OR RENT A TRUCK DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!! FALSE ADVERTISING! Called to get a quote weeks ahead of close. I provided all of my details-desired drop off date, move date, and pick up date. It was for a move of less than 50 miles. Booked and the pod was delivered a day later. Selling and buying the same day so the most important thing is timing. The day we were cleared to close, 7 days ahead of our close date, I got online to confirm pick up and move only to see that it wasn't scheduled. Tried to schedule and the first available appointment was more than two weeks out-a full week after closing. Chatted with customer support-nothing they can do but put me on a cancellation list. I wish this was a negative star rating. They claimed that they delivered my pod and we denied the delivery when the guy got to my house. But he never came to my house. I called all last night, no one knew anything. Tell I told them they can pay be back for my movers. Then they come up with a lie. The guy called me for the first one and delivered it just fine. Same guy called and told me he would be at my house at 230pm and never showed. They will lie and make you pay for it. Don't move with them. read more

While on the surface, the POD offers an alternative to traditional moving, it did not work out that way for my family. Scheduling drop off and pick ups is hampered by a "lack of drivers" leaving you to continue to pay fees. When the POD was delivered to our new residence, we found the contents disrupted as though the driver went off roading in the way to drop it off. After we unloaded the POD, I attempted to schedule the pickup of the empty POD only to find via the app that they had no drivers available for nearly five weeks. I attempted to contact a representative several via telephone only to have the system comically drop my calls of insist I "access my account via the web." The result is many more fees. I am still trying to understand how I am liable for rental payments on an empty POD because the company does not have enough drivers or can't manage a schedule. Never again! read more

DO NOT USE PODS - FRAUDULENT PRACTICES - TOTAL SCAM I rented two PODS and this was hands down one of the worst customer service experiences I've ever had. The whole thing felt like a bait-and-switch. When I booked, I talked to multiple reps and gave them my exact drop-off and pick-up dates just to be clear on what I'd be charged. Every single time, I was told the same thing: you'll be charged for the full second month, but once the PODS are picked up, just call and we'll prorate the unused time. Sounded fair enough, right? Wrong. After my empty PODS were picked up on day 16 of the second billing cycle, I called to get the refund like they told me. Suddenly, I'm told that "policy" says prorating only applies if pickup is within the first 10 days. That was never once mentioned when I ordered. I spent over an hour on the phone, even with a manager, and all I got was the same robotic response: sorry, that's corporate policy. To make things worse, they tried to act like prorating at all is some kind of favor to customers. Give me a break. Either this "policy" doesn't exist, or it's purposely hidden so they can squeeze more money out of you. Then they had the nerve to offer me "credit" with PODS. As if I'd ever use them again! Bottom line: PODS doesn't care about their customers. They know most people use them once and never again, so they'll happily mislead you and keep your money. I would rate PODs KC a zero if I could. We had our POD packed up ahead of pick up day as details on the pick up time window is not given till the day before. The pick up driver comes ahead of the pick up window, then decides to leave 5 minutes later because a USPS truck is parked next to the POD. Rather than asking the USPS worker to kindly move his truck, we get a text he is leaving. Asked if the POD pick up driver to come back during the agreed upon time frame. No response. POD chat tells us they can't reach the driver and POD has to be rescheduled and delivery delayed. POD representative says the pick up time is just a suggestion. Now the POD pick up & delivery is booked up for the next month. Do NOT use this company if you are in the KC area. Moving is stressful enough and worse when you use a company who does not care about their clients. We foresee additional expenses for storage and delays caused by this company. Paying a reliable mover would have been less expensive because we are now at the mercy of PODS. I see your auto response PODS, but no use emailing you because PODS customer service has canceled our original pick up set up for today. To make things worse, PODS has already changed our pick up and delivery date on their end without making the POD KC to get the driver to pick up our POD. I setup my PODS rental for exactly one month. Talked to the call center, explained that I needed it setup for exactly one month, started the rental on the 14th of May, setup drop off and pickup for the 12th & 13th of June. Somehow they "forgot" to pick it back up on the 13th. Then that same day they billed me for another whole month. When I called them to get it fixed they told me "well even if we did forget you're billing cycle still requires that we bill you for another whole month". So even if you call in advance, explain that you want the rental for exactly one month, and make sure the call center knows that, it won't Make any difference because they have shady business practices and they somehow turn every one month rental into two. read more

Joke of a moving company. They never picked up my container. It will now arrive 3 weeks late despite the fact they claim deliveries take between 9-11 days. We have had to spend hundreds of dollars out of pocket to get basic necessities for our new home while we wait on our POD to arrive and make our case to their compensation team that we should be reimbursed. The absolutely worst 3000 plus dollars ever spent. Pick up for us wasn't an issue but trying to get them to deliver an extra 34 miles, all of which we are willing to pay for is impossible. They will not work with you, they will not talk to you, tried talking to their complaints department they wouldn't give us the number or transfer us, tried getting the number to the facility that has our stuff, they refused to give us the number customer service is a farce. We were given the run-around and excuses. Told to wait for three days to get told NO. They flat out lie to you when they say that delivery isn't a problem. When we placed our order we did not have a zip code to where we were moving as we had not purchased our house at that time but still had to move due to work obligations. They told us it would not be a problem "just pick a zip code and we will change it when you get your place". Now, after paying for transportation to their facility and several months of storage we have been told "we won't accommodate you, but you can come and pick your stuff up". Now we have to spend more money, more time and deal with a larger inconvenience due to their MISLEADING SALES PEOPLE. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING THEY PROMISE. I received a call a couple hours before my Pod was to be delivered that they couldn't deliver due to weather. I called in and canceled and found other arrangements. A couple hours later I get a call from pods saying they are 15 minutes away with my pod. I informed them the situation and that I already made other arrangements. Now almost a month later I'm still waiting on my refund. First I was told I'd have it in a week. I did, but at the same time they credited my account they charged me again. I've been fighting with them almost a month to get my $253 back Last week I called and the lady told me it can take a month. I asked to talk to a supervisor and he said he can see the refund has been made I should see it in my account t in a few days, so here we are a week later and sti no credit. We are in the process of moving from Springfield, MO, to Topeka, KS. When we originally got our POD back in October 2017, we were unsure of where we would land as I was beginning my search for law schools. We were told to book a local move to Springfield, and to call to update the address once we knew it by the customer service representative we worked with at the time. Upon calling to update the address, we were informed they do not service the area code we are moving to (and were never told to be aware of this throughout the entire process; this includes our rental agreement not stating anything even though the customer service rep was adament it was included). The customer service rep called the local distribution center (this is the closest we could find) and they refused to make an exception. I am hoping this is viewed by a local person who can help, as I'm sure the lady I spoke to did not relay the entire story. My family is moving at the end of next week (my wife, 2 year old, and 6 week old twins and a dog) and used PODs because it was convenient. Reviewing the areas serviced by the Greater Kansas City Storage Center, Ozawkie, KS was included. I mention this because it is 1 hour 28 minutes from the storage center in Grandview whereas our house is 1 hour 24 minutes away per Google Maps. I am sure there are other, smaller distribution sources, but given its location, it is much more isolated than Topeka and doesn't make a whole lot of sense as a service area relative to Topeka. We have a refund review submitted, but I hope an exception can be made and the POD be delivered to our driveway as expected, as the price for the convenience in this circumstance is worth it to us. PODS IS the worst service I have ever seen in years of moving and watching people move! I own a rental company that leases 150-200 homes a year...and have been involved thousands of moves I have never seen any company with such a lack of concern! One of my tenants hired PODS to move and store their furniture. The first POD arrived and the had to struggle to get the 2nd POD that was 2 weeks ago. (June 15)..PODS has refused to come back and pick up the last one until JULY 11. I had called begging for them to pick up because the new tenant had their PODS being delivered on June 19)...they did send anyone out JUNE 20...but the 2nd renter's PODS were blocking the first POD so they didn't pick up... I called yesterday (June 30) was put on hold ...passed from person to person to be told once that the earliest they could pick up was July 6...he passed me to the resolution team...who in turn told me that the couldn't reach the manager of the 14101 Norby Road location because he was the truck driver and he was delivering the PODS ....REALLY!!! They have one person in the local office coordinating the mess!!! At the same time I have an new tenant highly dissatisfied that the past tenant's POD has been in their driveway for the past two weeks...and not able to use the driveway of his new home.... The Resolution Team and PODS is pretty LAME...could care less that they are inconveniencing people that have nothing to do with their service.... She said she would call back to get the matter resolved 15 hours later I never received the call!!! DO NOT USE PODS YOU WILL REGRET IT...I did not have the time to write this review, but if it saves one person from going thru this mess it will be worth it! read more

UPdate--- They fixed my problem at the last minute and took care of us. I am very grateful that they got my problem solved!!! Thank you PODS. TERRIBLE!!!!! NEVER USE THIS COMPANY. We booked our POD online and it was delivered on time. The recording said to call and book for pick up with 7 days notice to make sure you get the day you want for pick up. I called with 7 days and it said 3 weeks was the soonest pick up. You cannot email in! You cannot chat! You cannot talk directly to the location.... ONLY CALL CENTER. I have called and been on phone everyday for hours. They now moved my pick up day back 4 more days. I offered to pay extra. Offered to pay overtime...anything! Now they are refusing to pick up and the new homeowners are taking possession on June 1 and they won't pick up until June 18. It has been the worst experience and we have been treated terrible. We rented a POD because our garage floor had to be replaced. Had to have a city permit to have it in our driveway. We called the company and gave them two weeks' notice to come pick up the POD and they responded that they could not come for more than 3 weeks. In 2017 you need to give 3 weeks notice? Really? The customer service rep initially advised that they had called the local office who agreed to pick it up earlier; of course, that's not true. They billed us for an additional month (which I'm sure is the intent of the delay in retrieving) and our city permit expires on 6/30/17 so we will be fined for that, as well. Repeated calls with greater than 20 minute hold times. Supervisor refused to speak with us. Company refused to give us the local office's phone number. We were moving from our house that we lived in for 25 years. We ordered a pod so we could store the boxes we had packed. The pods crew brought a pod on the exact date we had asked. The driver was very nice & put the pod carefully on our driveway. When we fully packed the pod they came, picked up the pod & delivered it to our new residence. Again, the driver was very nice. We would definitely use Pods again. The piece of mind it provided was well worth the price which was very reasonable. read more

I moved from the Midwest to the West Coast and used PODS to move our belongings. I originally made the decision to use them because they were significantly cheaper than using a moving company. When I called to set everything up, they told me I didn't need to be present when they picked up the POD with our belongings inside, their driver will make sure it gets picked up and we can go ahead and move. We drove 2000 miles across the country, living out of suitcases for several days. I got a call from the driver today, he couldn't pick up the POD because there are cars in the way. He described the cars and I told him which houses to knock on to have them moved. I get a call back 30 seconds later, was told nobody came to the door to move the cars so they will have to reschedule...for almost a week later! I was never told in the entire process when signing documents and making the decision to use the POD that they needed a ton of room on the street to be able to pick it up, was never told that the driver wouldn't make much of an attempt to pick it up if there were any obstructions. I called back to tell them my parents could be there later in the day to make sure the neighbors moved their cars, told them I felt I had been lied to when I decided to use them for this move. Not only did they tell me the schedule was full, but they told me if they attempted to pick it up again and it was still blocked they would charge a dry-run fee! On top of that, when I asked if they could help me out and give me a couple extra days at no charge, I was told no, I would be charged for an entire month if we couldn't get it unloaded and ready to be picked back up before our first month was up! Now there is also a good chance that I will get fined by the city, because my permit is going to expire before the unit gets picked up! Don't believe everything they tell you, ask a lot of questions, and don't expect them to do anything to try and help find a solution to a complicated problem. PODS has no interest in providing customer service for an odd or challenging situation, they are going to tell you their policies and leave it up to you to deal with the aftermath. When they promise peace of mind, a stress-free move, etc. they are promising that only if you have a situation that matches up exactly with what they want. PODS sets their terms, and you have to figure everything else out. If you don't have a huge property with a ton of land for their truck and POD, I would look elsewhere! read more

Our experience on the East Coast was fine. Stage 2, getting our pod to the KC area: also fine. Trying to get delivery less than 50 miles away to our new house: AWFUL! Unable to get anything less than 3 weeks out! After being on hold 30 minutes to schedule the final move first customer service rep basically refused to let us speak to a supervisor, saying they wouldn't be able to do anything other than what she was doing. She did send an email to their storage facility and said we'd hear back tomorrow. We had to call them to find out that NO, they couldn't move us up. Spoke to a supervisor, Chris, who did not sound empathetic, said he couldn't do anything more for us, refused to give us a phone # so we could talk to the storage facility on our own (an online search shows there is no separate phone listed -- just goes to the PODS Customer Service Line.) Also, when asked what compensation we could get for having to wait 3 weeks & have to pay for an additional 3 weeks in a hotel after closing on our new house, he said "None." No, I'm sorry, or I'll check w/a manager, just "None." Not acceptable customer service! UPDATE: I spoke w/a 3rd customer rep an hour later. Meshay was friendly, sympathetic, and professional, even calling the storage manager to get him to correct their files. Unfortunately, no change in results. An hour after that we got a phone call saying the POD will be delivered tomorrow. Too bad the squeaky wheel had to be so loud in order to get something corrected. read more

The drop off after storage required a unique same day drop off and pick up within 5 hours and PODS did it no problem. Every staff person I cam into contact with was nice and warm.
