Using Always Helpful Movers was honestly, the best cross-country moving experience I've had, by…read morefar, and my family and I have moved quite a bit. Thank you John and the team for making the trip to Florida to move our belongings! From the beginning, I interviewed several movers in the Kansas City area to move my family and I to Florida. We had a home's worth of items to move, and found Always Helpful Movers based on reviews on HomeAdvisor. I called them up and scheduled a time for them to come out and walk through the house to provide us with a quote on materials, moving fees, insurance, etc. John showed up to provide us with a very detailed quote, and answered my many, many questions. ***(Please note that I did a heck of a lot of homework - asked all the questions about fees, storage, fuel costs, insurance costs, packing and packaging costs, etc. I was very diligent and made sure I had all my answers before selecting a mover. It was very important to me that I fully understood all the services and rates they offered, and I made sure John and the team understood my expectations and what I was looking for. Doing my homework helped make this experience better for me, and I'd recommend you do the same. Ask ALL the questions, and make sure you fully understand the services that are being provided so you and your selected moving company all have the same expectations.) The quote John provided me was the lowest quote from the 4+ moving companies I interviewed. While that was very appealing, it was the customer service that really sold me. I appreciated that Always Helpful Movers made it a rule for their workers that they wouldn't cuss or talk crudely while around customers, they would respect our property and treat customers with respect. I have worked with many moving companies in the past that did not share these same values, and as a young female in charge of the move, I didn't feel respected in past situations. (I've had past movers eating, smoking weed on the job, speaking crudely about one-night stands on the job, etc.) Always Helpful Movers made me feel confident and respected during my cross-country move, and that is what really earned them this top review. This was apparent in the way they explained things to me, in how they spoke to me on the phone, in how they called me to let me know if they were running 15 minutes late, in how they updated us on prices and fees, etc. From day one, they showed me respect and never made me feel uncomfortable. Thank you for that. On the packing day, a team of six men came to my house and packed up all the items remaining. They took great care in helping me keep a full inventory list, by numbering and labeling all items according to my color-coded system. They were careful and respectful to my property, and even put down plastic and mats on the carpet so they wouldn't track dirt into the house. They were kind, respectful, and got the job done very quickly. Come moving day, they came to my house to pack everything up into the giant trailer. Again, they covered the carpets and got the job done quickly. When they left with our items, I knew exactly who on their team would be delivering our goods, when they would arrive, and helped me to feel very informed. We purchased the highest insurance as a peace of mind, to ensure all our items would make it safely. My husband met them in Florida for the arrival of our items, and the two-man team did a great job unloading our items into two separate locations. They were quick, respectful, and worked with my inventory list to make sure everything arrived, and to make sure everything was unloaded into the right spot. They re-assembled any furniture (like couches and bed posts) in the final destination, and made sure everything was to my husband's standards before leaving. One thing that I really appreciated was their attention to detail. When re-assembling the bed post, the movers weren't able to locate the screws and hardware that should have been sent with the bed. Instead of blowing it off and saying "tough, good luck fixing it!" like other movers have in the past, John went to Home Depot to purchase the correct hardware himself, and came back to reassemble the furniture. That kind of care and respect for our property truly impressed me. When all was said and done, the quote they provided me was spot on, and that was the amount we paid. All items arrived exactly when they said they would and arrived in great shape - nothing was broken or destroyed - they took great care of our items. (I think perhaps I noticed a few scratches on a picture frame, but for moving an entire house and having that be the only damage - I'm really impressed.) Ultimately, it was a great moving experience. We learned a lot about the process and about good service by working with Always Helpful Movers. I am sad they are only local to Kansas City, as I'd love to be able to hire them for all future moves - I don't think anybody else will stack up.

I was looking for move to move both a grand piano and the rest of our apt items. The piano part was fine. The rest was an absolute disaster. I can't believe this: They took SEVEN HOURS to move half our 1br apt down the street. Literally. Logistically everything was packed backwards, so they left everything out in the hall in order to move the couch in, LAST. It took us TWO HOURS AFTER THEY LEFT, to move the rest of the boxes they did choose to bring, inside our apt. We have yet to retrieve the REST OF THE STUFF, in the old apartment, since ALTHOUGH WE TOLD THEM EVERYTHING WAS COMING, they decided to just be done and left a quarter of the furniture in the old place. THEY NEVER ASKED ANYONE if we were finished. One guy sat at the piano for about 45 minutes because he was waiting for someone to bring up tools to reattach it. No one ever came. Ironically they DID take things clearly marked "do not take'. Conveniently they left all the awkward items like the ACs and appliances/paintings. This is the worst moving company I've seen in a long time. In explaining where to put things, they kept saying they had to wait for the couch/piano, which they moved last. No one came to survey the situation on either end. Every time I told one person something, it never got communicated to the other the guys standing around elsewhere. I had also asked them to wrap the couch, THREE times. THEY DIDN'T, so now there are HUGE, long scratches on my brand new leather couch. Pics to follow. These are some of the laziest (albeit friendly) people I've seen. We were quoted for 5 guys@$190/hr. Only four were present. One was completely useless. Usually one person was very efficient while the others stood around. I have multiple pictures of this out my window.

When the day of the move arrives on Friday, March 15th, they were an hour and a half late. I had to call the owner a half hour in to their scheduled arrival time to find out where they were. He said he had personnel issues the night before and hopefully they would be along soon. As they packed the truck, the movers managed to break off the base of one of our nice TVs. As they were loading our 3 TVs, they were pushing and shoving them in. We could hear the squeak of plastic-on-plastic and then the base tore off. They said they could screw it back on by driving bolts through the back of the broken base. Thank you, no. Then, as they were loading our hutch which is a family heirloom, they wanted to place a gliding chair on top with no blankets or anything between. I had to finally tell them to stop and add some blankets. Had I not, they would have left those two pieces to bounce together during transport. Of our two movers, Nathaniel was great. He was upbeat, moving quickly, great customer service game. The other mover was slow, grumpy and overall had a poor disposition. At one point, the second mover decided he would setup our washer without telling us. I don't mind that level of service, but when we walked by, we think he thought we were Nathaniel because he said aloud "I'm over all this s***." That's incredibly out of line and in bad taste. Then, when we tried to use our washer, we discovered it was hooked up incorrectly and our floor was met with a flood of water. The dryer was left for us to hook-up. The movers were also unable to move everything we had. There wasn't much: we didn't even have a LR set or dining room table because we sold them. It was a 3 bed, 2 bath house. This would leave everything down to poor packing. They didn't offer to return to the first house to get the remaining furniture, so we had to get our own U-Haul the next day, costing us an extra $100 to get the remaining furniture. Once the move was completed, we attempted to contact the owner to discuss the damaged TV. No answer. Even though he gave us two numbers to get ahold of him that day, neither us, nor his employees could contact him. We opted to pay everything but $70 pending a callback from him so we could discuss damages. After we attempted to contact him multiple times on Friday, March 15th after the job was completed, we called again on March 16th at 11:25am which was not answered. This is, clearly, within the 24-hour period required on the contract since the job wasn't completed until after 4pm on the 15th. We were not able to make contact with the owner until March 20th at 3:10pm--5 days after the move took place. Once we made contact, he advised that he happened to be on his Honeymoon during that week. Okay, I get that. But communicate to your customers that you will be getting married and then on your Honeymoon, therefore will be radio silent. It's odd that the owner gave us numbers to reach him and then failed to answer them when used. While on the phone, I told him that we discovered that nearly every piece of furniture that wasn't in a box had some sort of damage on it: scrapes, scratches, gouges, and the like. I also reported the customer service issues we had. He requested photos be sent to him and then he would consult a repair professional to discuss repair costs and apologized for our experience and that he would get back to us quickly. We sent the photos within a couple of days on March 25th. I had to text him myself on April 3rd asking if he received them. He stated he did receive them, but the photos look like previous damage. He mentioned he spoke to his two movers and they stated that we "exaggerated" our experience. He states the damages could be repaired with the amount we didn't pay in full ($70). We responded saying that we wanted him to honor his contract agreement that they will pay for damages incurred during the move, but he states he wasn't informed of them within the 24-hour period. While we initially only recognized the TV damage moments after the move was completed, it is unrealistic to expect us to note any and all other damages to communicate to the owner and/or his movers before they left our residence. However, we did note it later that evening and the following day. This is what we attempted to discuss with him within that 24-hour period, yet we were unable to make contact. We are not prone to claiming false damages. There was obviously prior damage on a wooden desk that we even joked about with Nathaniel. At no point have we claimed that damage or tried to scam the owner or his company over it or any other damages. It clearly states in our contract with the company that they "agree to repair, replace, or compensate the customer
