We used Mike Hammer Moving on a referral from my sister who had used them before, and we thought they did a great job. We had multiple large items such as a desk, bookcases, a dresser, etc. and they were able to move them into our new house with no damage whatsoever to the house or the items themselves. It helped so much having them do the bulk of it for us - it really relieved a lot of our stress on moving day! We ended up paying almost $500 less than the estimate which was great. They showed up early on the moving day with 3 guys ready to work. UPDATE 5-27-26 Finally after weeks talked with Michael from Mike Hammer Moving. Discussed the items below and it seemed like I was bothering him and he said the spots on the carpet looked like shadows. He finally agreed to send a carpet cleaner and someone to repair the handrail.....the conversation was on over a week ago and NOTHING YET! No one has reached out! I finally sent a text to Tanner this evening and no response!!! We just hired Mike Hammer Moving company. The quote was $1400 and was told most the time the guys beat the quote. Final bill was $1600! There were other issues, the two wheel cart left black spots on the carpet on the stairs, and a screw was popped on the handrail hanger. The men moved a 450 pound fireproof file cabinet down the stairs and twice it hit hard shaking the stairs! We have a walkout basement and could have gone around the outside. If they would have communicated with me I would have suggested to leave in the garage and we could move it in the next move since it was wet and grass was wet. COMMUNICATE !!! Mike was very accommodating and had moved me two and a half years ago. The two man crew, Jeremy and Cody, were very professional and personable and hustled, without being in a rush. They did not waste time, but took time to ask me about items, as some items were staying behind; and ask which room, if unsure, items went at the new place. Great care was taken with the items and the houses. The final cost did not go over the given estimate. Well worth the money. Had a project where house had to be cleared out into a POD and 1 week later moved back in. A table was broken on the move out which was sort of fixed when it was discovered. One of the guys wanted the pallets from my building materials but never came to get them after I passed up opportunity to get rid of them. Boxes which were clearly labeled were put in the wrong rooms which was irritating. Updated review: Mike called and is coming to get the pallets and is trying to make things right which is appreciated. Asked for a picture of the issue with the table. I had Mike move me and it was a disaster. The quote was for 19.5 hours and I was billed for 31 hours. He blamed this on one piece of workout equipment which I had to, in the middle of the move, have a professional move. I never received a response that his guys took an extra 11.5 hours on that.. They also did not put tvs and computers in one of our personal cars. They took moving blankets that were mine and have never replaced them/ When he gave me the quote the house contained quite a number of fragile art pieces. This decrease significantly the number of boxes they had to move. I never received an answer from either emails of phone call. I would never use this company again. read more

We recently used Mike Hammer Moving to move our household goods and workshop tools and materials from rural Wellsville, KS to Olathe, KS. We had an earlier walkthrough by Mike Hammer himself in order to determine an estimated cost. Moving day arrived, a crew of six able bodied young men with three trucks, only two that were needed. The crew was very skilled, very courteous, demonstrated a will to please and worked very hard with only a couple instances of minor damage. (Make certain your instructions are printed, some young people are not proficient in cursive.) The most disappointing part of the process surfaced when we were presented with a bill that was 30% higher than the original estimate on which we based our decision on using their services for our move. We signed the original contract assuming there could be some minor changes but a 30% error was totally unacceptable from a business that has been in operation as long as the Hammer company. If you are considering using them for your move I would insist on having a maximum allowable figure for the cost of their services. The error was not in the efforts or the performance of the crew, it was a result of an erroneous low ball estimate. We will not contract for their services in the future. read more

We just had a lot of activity on our street a few days ago. Anyone coming down our street had to navigate around trucks and equipment parked in front of our property. When a Mike Hammer Moving van passed by the driver gave wide berth and his truck broke a large branch on one of our ash trees, knocking it onto the street and splitting the limb to which it was attached. Workers who witnessed the incident moved the branch onto the curb and made calls to the appropriate companies. The foreman of the paving crew provided the info I needed to contact the Mike Hammer Moving company. My call that day was followed by a call from Tanner requesting photos which I provided. When I called the next day the phone was answered by Mike Hammer, owner. I explained the situation and he assured me they would take action. A short time later Mike called back with the email and business address to send the invoice for the tree service that would be coming the next day to remove the damaged limb, treat the wound and haul the debris. Mike was exceptionally easy to work with, everything happened as promised and everyone walked away happy. Thanks Mike! Good outfit!! read more

DO NOT TRUST THIS COMPANY! It all started well with a professional quote and discussion about how our move would go with the knowledge that many items would be going into storage and some to a home being remodeled. They brought 2 trucks to accomodate both locations. We marked everything going to storage with blue painters tape as requested by Mike at the estimate to make idenification easy for his crew. First issue, several items meant for storage ended up at the house. Frustrating, but things like this can happen. Second issue, the crew had zero organization when it came to loading in the storage units. They did not keep items together that needed reassembled at later date, many items were literally/physically thrown on top of the heaping pile towards the end of the unloading process. Boxes clearly labeled were placed upside down, fragile boxes were stacked with heavy boxes on top of them, crushing the contents. We had several items broken/damaged. My husband and I watched this with our own eyes. After asking the crew on site to please keep it organzied and pay attention to the labels, I finally left in tears because it was so extremely frustrating how disrespectful they continued to be with our belongings. I left my husband there to finish up with the crew, he paid in full and tipped even though we were extremely disatistified. When I left, I immediately called the office, spoke with a female who said that is not how they do business and that Mike would personally meet me at the storage unit to handle it. Mike did meet me, took pictures of the unit and contents himself. We discussed two options to rectify the situation. Option 1:He offered to send his crew back out to organize and redo the units, which he discouraged because he said the more the belongings are moved/handled the odds of things being broken/lost increases. Then we would have to pay for another move from the storage unit to the house. OR Option 2: Leave the storage units as is and he would send his crew back out to complete the move once our construction at the house was finished at no charge. He assured me his guys would remember what parts went to what when they returned to complete move and assemble beds, etc. At no additional charge. I foolishly chose to have him move us in when we were ready and complete the move/assembly that we paid for in full already. He gave me his personal cell phone number and said to call him when we were ready to move it in. Fast forward 6 months later when I called Mike to schedule the final leg of the move. Issue three and the most damaging of all... Mike denied ever coming to the storage unit, seeing the contents in person and said I sent him the pictures. NOT TRUE. I have text messages from his office stating he was on his way there and another saying he was waiting at the unit. He also denied saying the completion of the move would be on his dime. I should not have trusted him to follow through with his word, that is on me, I suppose. Always get it in writing. Bottom line, he did not follow through on what we agreed to to rectify an already less than professional situation. His company came recommeded to us from a friend with a high end move and we felt very comfortable with him at first, but beware. He will talk you out of the extra insurance to protect your belongings at the estimate and if something goes wrong with your move, you will likely be left out in the cold despite what you are told. read more

Movers were polite and clean but as day wore on with move one of main movers started getting a bit reckless. they broke the electronic mechanism for my adjustable bed. I called. Owner Mike Hammer came and looked at said he would get back with me with someone who could take care of. Never heard from again. The movers also lost the electrical cord to my elliptical. read more

I chose 4 stars because I was very pleased with the moving crew that came to move us into a new apartment. However, if I were to rate the company, I would choose 3 stars. After making the reservation, I was asked for a credit card to hold it. I was not supposed to be charged prior to the move. My card WAS charged, and I was assessed a 3% fee for using a credit card. I was given no choice! After I received my invoice, I noted that the hourly rate charged was different than the estimate. I was also charged for a mirror box that was not used because it wasn't necessary. The movers weren't even sure if they had one on the truck. A week prior to the move, I had a request from the company to change the time of my move from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. I was able to do so easily, by contacting the apartment to reserve the elevator from 11:00 - 1:00. I was called by the crew at 8:15 a.m. to tell me that they were on their way!!! The crew was able to orchestrate a change to their schedule and comply with the 10:00 time frame for load in. I chose this company because they had good reviews and were recommended by my apartment complex. I have since communicated my experience with the leasing agent at the apartment. read more

There was a destroyed doorbell and subsequent damage to the drywall. One of their men took pictures of the damage directly following the accident. I called their number twice and was told they would get back to me. I guess there resolution is to ignore you until you give up. The movers were good. After time to reflect I can see how I was over billed too. The quote was to be the max price but I had 30 instead of 40 Boxes so in my mind the price should have been lower. I think this could be a great company but their integrity is lacking. Do shop around. read more

Worst moving company ever. I paid $3500 and the company damaged my oak stairway with there dollies. Took photos and sent them to Mike the owner. Said he would call me back now he is ignoring calls and texts from me. Also had numerous broken glasses and mirrors. Company likes to get paid but will not fix anything that they broke or damaged. Driver also pulled into my yard and cut big ruts. Very unprofessional and horrible service. Do not use this horrible company. Don't hire this company. Owner is not answering any of my calls. He only takes the money and no responsibility for damaged property. I have read other reviews about this company. Beware of this company. DO NOT USE MIKES MOVING you will never hear from them if you have any damages. I turned them into the Better Business Bureau also. read more

Moving company assured my wife they could get all our processions on one truck just to get the contract. Had to send second truck a few days later to move what wasn't loaded on the first truck so I paid the truck fee twice. If I could, I would rate the first truck crew as a zero. Other than the driver the crew was rookies and broke a major piece of furniture. After several phone calls, the owner finally sent out repair person. Repair technician glued the broken support hardwood piece back together and filled the crack the best he could do. Repair was not to my satisfaction since there was not a scratch on the furniture before the move. I exchanged several emails and phone calls with the owner trying to rectify but owner in the end just started ignoring my phone calls. In all fairness, the second truck and crew was excellent and had I not had the issues with the first truck and the lack of customer support, I would have rated them a 4 or 5. I imagine times are tough right now hiring labor but still no excuse for not trying to please the customer in a business that demands customer satisfaction. read more

MOVING COMPANY FROM HELL!!! The son Cameron, watch your bill. I arranged with The dad Mike to move a 1BR sparsely-furnished apartment. He estimates 2 hours 30 minutes, 2 guys, and work to start at 9:00am. The son Cameron and another young man called at 8:34am and when Cameron offered to return when I told them that work was to begin at 9:00 am, he billed me for coming out twice. 2. Packaging materials that were already in the earlier estimate by Mike, his father, Cameron the son, double billed by adding these charges again onto the updated bill. 3. Cameron billed for 3hours 15 minutes in addition to the already 2 hours 30 mins already billed in the estimate. 4. The estimate was the 'baseline' from which son, Cameron added his additional 3 hours 15 minutes, making a 2-hrs 30 minutes, billed as 5 hours 45 minutes at $145.00 per hour 5. My mattress, I discovered had not been wrapped in the plastic wrap that I provided to them. The crew of 2 men wanted to do as little as possible while clocking time as packing my stuff. The time they spent in their truck that I looked outside to find them, idling in their truck - VERY BAD SERVICE. When I contested the amount and the billing method, son called his dad who shouted and insulted me on the phone as if to intimidate me. i shouted back at him, at which he threatened to off-load the truck onto the packing lot. I said go ahead, ebven though I did not want to, Mike threatened calling the Police, becasue he expected I, an immigrant to be an illegal immigrant (which I am not). Still knowing what the Police with a gun, and in KS, and this possibility was what i did not want to happen - introducing a weapon to the mix. Then, Mike loudly told me: "This is not what we do in this country". To which I replied: 'I am a US citizen". At this point, he asked his dad to reduce two superfluous charges. Even though the final bill was still crooked and improper, I was tired, paid the bill and Cameron drove off in his thievery. Please, NEVER LET the father Mike, bully you with you not paying your bill and the other disrespectful epithets that he used. Better still, I am relieved to never have to use them EVER! read more

REALLY REALLY disappointed!! Did a terrible and incomplete job packing, I have a lot of breakage. badly scuffed a couple of pieces of furniture and managed to get one of my teak cabinet's doors off its track. Items weren't packed just dumped in boxes, including some breakables. Refused to return and finish packing on moving day, then wanted to charge me more to come finish a day later. I still have art work and some furniture at the house, as well as quite a bit of misc stuff. I felt they overcharged me, especially considering the job they did. Horrible experience. read more

This is not a good or even average moving company. They broke off a leg of my couch bringing it in the front door. They made no offer of repairing it. Said it was "nothing". They also actually stole 6 of my boxes of personal items. The man doing the work brought his 16 year old son to help him do the move. I cannot give any kind of positive review of this company because it cost more to repair the damage to our home ($2891) than it cost for the move ($2250) as the result of negligence by its employees. The driver, Tanner, disconnected the waterlines to the washer but failed to fully turn them off. As a result the bedroom beneath the laundry room had water damage to ceiling and standing water on the laminate floor. As a result of the damage, the house closing was delayed 8 days as the buyers came close to canceling the sale altogether. I spoke to Michael Hammer to explain what had happened. No apology, but he stated that is exactly why their contract states it is the owners responsibility to disconnect water lines and that they have no liability. I pointed out that at no time did driver tell me it was my responsibility to disconnect the water lines. I went back and re-read the contract and while it does state customer accepts any and all liability of water damage it also states Mike Hammer will not disconnect or reconnect water lines unless arranged prior to the move in writing. No one on the moving crew wore a mask!!! They had a new guy working who carried one item out at a time, and I'm talking about a small item every time. Apparently he was in a training and at the end of the move when I spoke to Michael Hammer, he said he didn't charge us for the extra guy to which I replied good because he didn't really do much to contribute to the move. Not that I'm putting down the new guy for learning but seriously, They need to have a better training process! One of their guys injured himself during the move & bled on a mattress and then used packing paper to try to stop the bleeding. When I spoke with Michael Hammer about the problems with the move, and told him about the injury incident, and suggested that they should have a first aid kit on the truck Michael responded that they did. So if there's a first aid kit why did the guy not use it? When Jake Hammer bid the job I said I didn't think I wanted wardrobe boxes and he said 'well you know what will put them on the truck just in case' ... Guess what, there were no wardrobe boxes on the truck. I guess that's our mistake in trusting that, number one, we would get the hanging clothes moved and number two, that they would actually put a wardrobe box on the truck just in case it was needed. Before the move started that morning we did a walk-through with all the six movers and I showed them what stayed, what went, talked about the priority in case they ran out of time. Pretty standard stuff in my experience. However they started to bring furniture down from the loft which was not to be moved. They carried out weights and exercise things and Christmas things and photo albums that were not packed that they were told not to move. They left a table top glass on the truck so we didn't get it for about five days & only when I called looking for it. And in the end, the fee was considerably more than we had been told it would be. I was told it was because they took a lot of boxes which they had not bid. However during the bid process I told Jake we would try to have the boxes moved and that was our plan, and he said 'that's OK we will include the time for that just in case'. So today when Michael Hammer came to deliver the table top glass AND collect the check, he arrived earlier than our agreed-upon time and then had the nerve to argue with me that I gave him his choice of times either four or 415. I was with three other people who heard the conversation when we scheduled the pick up time yet Michael still had the nerve to argue. He has terrible terrible people skills!! Michael came into the garage, I showed him where to put the glass table top piece, trying to keep six foot social distance, and then he got very close to me, held out his hand and wanted to shake hands! I told him to stop back, dude, we're in the middle of a pandemic! It was a terrible experience overall and if I could give them less than one star I might do it but mostly because of Michael and his desire to argue with a customer instead of understanding where the customer is coming from and trying to work things out. I've asked him twice to have his father, Mike, call me but I'm sure that will never happen. I feel that the patriarch who started the company should hear how the company is being run. read more

When I called and asked for a quote, Mike told me to list out what we wanted moved. There were two large pieces we for sure couldn't move ourselves, and I told him approximately 12-14 more things, including appliances (I gave him some specifics of the pieces being moved, but told him we may have them move more on the day of and he had zero issues or questions). He specifically mentioned their restrictions on flat screens and that was it. On moving day, we had them move a fridge. It wouldn't fit through the door frame so they took the doors of the fridge off and then scratched a huge dent in the door frame. When I pointed it out, the movers were apologetic and told me that the office would call me and the office would either give me a credit or send someone out to fix it. We didn't have time to wait on someone to fix it, so my husband had to fix it himself late that night before we turned over the keys to the new owner. On top of that, at our new home the movers drug a muddy dolly through our finished basement and up the stairs, leaving mud all the way through. I pointed it out and he said I'll clean that up, later I found that he had taken a wet paper towel and just smeared the mud more into the carpet. I gave the office 3 days to call, they never did so I called them to ask about the credit. He spent 15 minutes explaining to me how the damaged door frame was my fault, they don't move fridges because of the possibility of damage. No one mentioned this to me, I was just somehow supposed to know their policy. Then he tried to tell me that it would have cost a lot of money to get someone out there to fix the dent, so why don't we just call it even. I'm still not sure how he thought that made sense. I got frustrated after him showing no remorse and blaming me, so with still zero culpability admitted he offered to send a small (very small) refund and I said fine and planned on moving on. It's now been almost a month with no further contact and no check. If neither thing had happened it would have been a fine move, slow but fine. Customer service is how you handle things when they aren't fine and this experience left a lot to be desired. In addition to that, when we talked on the phone he told me their hourly rate included all fees. When I got the bill that was not the case at all. ETA: Not sure why this shows my location as CA, this was a move in Overland Park, KS. Update: I understand you guys have a policy about fridges, you have now explained this multiple times. If I would have known we were having you move our fridge I would have mentioned it ahead of time. I don't think it's too much to ask your employees to be aware of your policies so they could have told me on moving day when plans changed suddenly (or someone could have mentioned it ahead of time like you did the televisions). At this point I will acknowledge we have a difference of opinion on responsibility, it is what it is. I really was trying to be constructive, but you still haven't addressed the mud throughout my basement or the small refund you offered that I never received and never heard from anyone again. So I will leave potential customers with the same advice I gave earlier, if everything goes great you seem like a nice moving company. If your customers have any issues, don't expect good customer service to resolve. read more

My bedroom furniture was damaged during the move. I called and reported the damage. Because the damage was reported more than 72 hours after the move they did not repair the damage. I work 12 + hour days and did not notice the damage in time. Partial compensation was offered which I accepted. I understand they have a policy, but it was frustrating to have to deal with the damage. read more

These guys came THROUGH. We were frantically trying to get our piano moved before we had to be out of our apartment and turn in the keys, and Mike Hammer found time after hours that they were willing to come and do the job. The price was less than what we expected, and we paid exactly what was quoted to us. They were extremely careful with the piano, even having to maneuver it around difficult corner, and it arrived to our house in perfect condition. I have never been more disappointed in a company than I am with Mike Hammer Moving. We had them move our piano yesterday, and it was one of the most unprofessional encounters I have ever experienced. 1. They arrived at our house, and one of the movers immediately requested to use my bathroom. (I was surprised at this as we are in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic but allowed him to use it.) I walked into the bathroom after he was finished to find urine splashed on the seat and floor (in a bathroom which had just been deep-cleaned for our move) and he had clearly not even attempted to clean it up. 2. The two movers seemed less than knowledge about their work in moving our piano (a gift from my grandmother) as they struggled to move the small console up and down a set of three stairs. 3. And finally, they audibly and clearly used profanity as they worked to move the piano in front of my two young daughters who were also present and watching them. I directly called Michael Hammer (the owner of the company) to voice my concerns about these issues. He responded apathetically and refused to offer even a slight discount in their (overpriced) charge for the move, even in light of all of these extremely unprofessional and undesirable circumstances. This company clearly does not have care or concern for their customer's experience, and I will never again use them for any reason. read more

My experience was ok. I've had better, and I've had worse. The day of the move the office called to say they would be running approx two hours behind schedule. Fine. The movers arrived exactly two hours behind. The bulk of the move itself was ok, except one of the movers was frustrated with me as I was telling them where to put items in my garage( to ensure it fit and it did). It had to be stacked accordingly or it would not of fit. I guess my thing is if I'm the paying customer and I was certainly not bossy or demanding I would expect them to abide by my request without any further ado?! Mike seems like a decent guy, and I really felt comfortable choosing him when he came by to provide an estimate. That said, my experience was overall not a good one. A friend had used them to move out of her house and said that the guys who showed up busted their asses the entire job. I saw no ass busting to speak of, and neither did my friend when she stopped by in the afternoon. One of the guys would literally drop his head on the dolly and sigh and moan about how his body was just too old for this kind of work, and how weak he felt from not eating any lunch. That was when he wasn't disappearing for bathroom and smoke breaks for extended periods of time. The other guy was a decent worker, but kept stopping to talk politics or books or the view out my window. I'm a friendly person, but my patience for this goes only so far when I'm paying by the hour. It drizzled pretty steadily the entire day, and at the end of it many of my boxes were wet and crumpled, and some were soaked all the way through. This shouldn't have been the case if boxes were going on and off the truck in an organized way, and not left sitting in the wet grass for extended periods of time, which is what I observed. After about 10 hours, the only thing left to bring up was a bookshelf, which didn't fit up the stairs. Earlier they had said they'd disassemble it if that was the case, but when I suggested this, they countered with taking a sledge hammer to it. After dragging ass all day, and skipping lunch for some unfathomable reason, they were clearly done with the job. I called Mike, and he offered to come over the next morning and take care of it, which he did. He knocked an hour off of the total bill as well, and I was pretty satisfied overall. I was aware at that time that a corner on my sofa had been damaged (upholstery pulled away, an easy fix), and that my wooden bedframe was scratched from them trying to fit it into a much too small elevator before disassembling it, but I wanted to get the rest of my boxes unpacked before I filed any insurance claims (I had paid an additional $50 to fully cover furniture damage). I didn't find anything else worth mentioning and sent Mike an email asking that they cover the cost to repair my couch & bedframe (not replace, just repair). It's been several weeks, and several follow ups, and no response. So it was a bit of a mixed bag, but I will not be using them again, and would not recommend them to a friend. They quote you, say you can reduce it by packing some yourself then charge you full quote after you packed 15 or 20 so boxes yourself. They damaged both homes in the move as I'm slowly finding things. They pack stuff you tell them to leave, they packed my model planes and cars by just throwing them in a big box with no wrapping I was going to take them myself. Some are broke. Their movers make comments about your cars, your possessions. I'm missing boxes, I tell them to leave my guitars and they take my cases. My bed is broken because they reassembled it without slats, then try to gaslight me by saying there were no slats on particular bed. Wife called (she's nicer than me) and they basically blew her off. Man what a bad choice. Oh almost forgot, charged me 80 dollars to haul away a dresser they were told to leave and brought anyway. Basically I'm moving stuff myself because they put stuff in the wrong areas. Packed cooking oil that leaked too. Just threw jackets in boxes that should have been in a wardrobe box. Now owner called me dishonest. Quote was for 4600 or so and final price was still 4600 after we did a lot of the packing. Stay classy Mike. What are you going to say about my missing boxes? Oh I forgot about my patio furniture that wobbles because your guys didn't tape down the inserts in the legs and many are missing. Didn't fix the damages. I paid extra for insurance but when the time came to show them the damages Mike stated since he didn't pack it they wouldn't pay for it. That was a big waste of $200! So what was the insurance for? Also they went about $400 over estimate. All boxes were clearly marked to which room they should go to and also marked fragile do stack,or glass. Yet they stacked the boxes on top of each other and put them in the wrong rooms.Not happy! read more
