Upon the…read moremove, the two men completing the move attempted to forcibly push a refrigerator through a doorway, leaving extreme damage to the doorway which was original stained wood. The marks were very deep and very noticible. When I contacted Phil, the co-owner, he first directed me to his "partner" who initially told me that I would have to file a claim with my homeowners insurance. Then told me he could file a claim under their insurance but that I would have to pay a $500 deductible. All this was said without even asking what damage was done or looking at the damage. I then contacted Phil the following day, again introducing myself, and explaining my concerns. He interrupted me, told me he spoke with his two employees and that their "stories were consistent" in explaining that my mother told them to get the refrigerator through the door "by any means necessary" and that he didn't know what my mother was "trying to pull" but that I "clearly only believe what (I) want to believe." He went on to state that my description of the issue would "only take some paint and putty" and he still had not seen any of the damages or even requested to see the damages. He finally asked what I expected of him and he only offered an apology after I provided the expectation of an apology and to view the damages so that he could fix them. He then never responded to me or the pictures I sent to him. This company, specifically Phil, is clearly only interested in the money you give him, not in his personal integrity or the integrity of his company. Most of all, the belongings his company is in charge of moving, as well as the dwelling he is moving them to, is of no importance to him. Anyone who chooses them as their movers should prepare for damages to their belongings with no retribution or empathy. This is a terrible business with a terrible owner.

So, we decided to use them for our move to North Carolina. Sadly, this is the worst move we have had and after 20 military moves. There are countless pieces of furniture that were packed and now are broken. They did not wrap critical pieces of furniture. It is more than you can imagine. I have given them high ratings before, but now we struggle to even give them a one star. I highly recommend that you use a different moving company.

I was looking for move to move both a grand piano and the rest of our apt items. The piano part was fine. The rest was an absolute disaster. I can't believe this: They took SEVEN HOURS to move half our 1br apt down the street. Literally. Logistically everything was packed backwards, so they left everything out in the hall in order to move the couch in, LAST. It took us TWO HOURS AFTER THEY LEFT, to move the rest of the boxes they did choose to bring, inside our apt. We have yet to retrieve the REST OF THE STUFF, in the old apartment, since ALTHOUGH WE TOLD THEM EVERYTHING WAS COMING, they decided to just be done and left a quarter of the furniture in the old place. THEY NEVER ASKED ANYONE if we were finished. One guy sat at the piano for about 45 minutes because he was waiting for someone to bring up tools to reattach it. No one ever came. Ironically they DID take things clearly marked "do not take'. Conveniently they left all the awkward items like the ACs and appliances/paintings. This is the worst moving company I've seen in a long time. In explaining where to put things, they kept saying they had to wait for the couch/piano, which they moved last. No one came to survey the situation on either end. Every time I told one person something, it never got communicated to the other the guys standing around elsewhere. I had also asked them to wrap the couch, THREE times. THEY DIDN'T, so now there are HUGE, long scratches on my brand new leather couch. Pics to follow. These are some of the laziest (albeit friendly) people I've seen. We were quoted for 5 guys@$190/hr. Only four were present. One was completely useless. Usually one person was very efficient while the others stood around. I have multiple pictures of this out my window.

I asked around, did some Internet searches, read some reviews and O'Connors Moving's name kept popping up. Heck, my storage unit even put in a good word for them. I called and scheduled a time to move what amounted to a one bedroom apartment's worth of items. O'Connors said three guys could do the job. Then they quoted me a price for three hours with an additional cost if the move took longer. I took their advice and away we went. The day of the move, the guys called and gave me about 15-20 minutes notice and then met me at my storage unit. After we loaded up, we went to my old place and got the rest of my things. Then we all drove to my new place and unloaded. The total time for the move was just over three hours for a fee of around $415*. I added a tip. I admit, I could have moved by myself for less money. At the same time I would have had to ask for volunteers, some of whom would probably flake, and it probably would have taken longer. ThenI would have had to find some way to compensate said volunteers. In this case, O'Connors made it easy, they did the heavy lifting and I was at work after only having to take the morning off. Trustworthy, professional and easy to work with. I'll probably move again one of these days. When I do, I'll call O'Connors for a quote. *Note: Not a huge thing, but O'Connors charged a small fee to drive to and from my move. I'm not sure if everybody does this and I honestly don't remember if it was mentioned when I made my quote, but I wanted to bring it up. It won't preclude me from using O'Connors again, because they were fantastic, but I thought a possible end user who is shopping around might want to know.

John O'Conner came highly recommended by a friend. His company is not the first moving company I've hired (for the record, the only thing I remember about the first was that they used the leg to my girlfriend's massage table as a wheel chock). I had a lot of angst about moving - there's nothing really fun about it. I took several evenings to pack and then two full days of vacation to finish. I spent a fortune on boxes and packing material - not to mention all the new stuff you have to buy for a new place. The only two good things about this experience is that I have a house I'm starting to feel at home in, and I met John O'Conner. A pretty bright guy once shared with me his theory for hiring great people by simply saying he appreciates a list of accomplishments but what he looks for is someone he'd let watch his kids. John is that guy. I'm sure I'll never move myself again, and I'm sure I'll never hire anyone else besides John and his company to do it.
