As a person who moves frequently, often without a certain address on the other end when I move, I thought I'd found the perfect moving company in PODS. That was the first time I used them, so yes, it is possible for things to work, if you have nothing unusual and you obey their timing. My first move it was easy to accommodate their schedule so it felt great. That was Dec 2022 But in December 2025 I realized THAT is the PODS biz model -- PODS is in control, you will obey them or you will never see your stuff again -- and yes, a customer service advocate actually made that threat to me when I was in the midst of trying to work through scheduling that PODS could not handle. PODS took two weeks from my scheduling date to get my things to me, not what I hoped but I rolled with it. PODS scheduled the drop off but would not let me schedule the pick up of the empty POD until that happened, and when I did, learned they could not pick up the empty POD for two weeks and just expected that would be okay. It was not. Problems have solutions -- and they claim they are here to help make moving easy. This is where they lost me forevermore. Instead of solving the problem, the customer service agent flaunted how much she was paid to ensure that I figured out how to accommodate their schedule or they would sell my stuff. How's that for customer service? I had to hire a truck, pay three movers for four hours to unload the POD, drive to my apartment and unload. That should have been two movers for one hour and no truck. PODS refused any discount or compensation. When I filed a complaint they conveniently lost it so had to start over when I followed up.a month later. When they finally realized I wasn't going away, they allowed me to file the complaint again and set a timer to deny it three days later, refusing any further appeal. At no point was there any acknowledgment that their marketing lies create problems and that while some customers may be able to work around PODS and it feels okay, as I did the first time, but make no mistake, PODS was in control. When that doesn't work, they don't care, they don't have to, and they will let you know that. For lack of empathy, or anything resembling customer service when any little deviation occurs, PODS fails and should be avoided. If you have to work with them only do it by phone with a live agent and confirm every date and time and the limits of timing of each local franchiser. The online system does not work no matter how much they tell you it will. And there is no love between the national operation and the local franchisers -- and the local franchisers will tell you that IF you can talk to them, the national call centers tries to prevent that, but when they can't deliver a service as they couldn't for me, I got to go to the local spot and chat. I did that in two other locations when I needed to visit my POD and they all had nasty things to say about how the call centers handle customers. Also: I was told by one of the agents that PODS authorized a $50 accommodation fee and I laughed -- then she said -- but then it was taken off the account. That's when they allowed the second complaint. Even after further review nothing was offered, not even the courtesy $50. How many businesses can treat people like that and survive?
