Very old-style and homey Polish interior: flower-printed table cloths, candles, wooden chairs, and very majestic, castle-inspired furniture and decor. Our waiter was more than just polite. He never turned his back at us when leaving our table, but instead backed away slowly and out, which made us feel royal. At start, he served us an appetizer on the house: a Polish traditional food called "szmalec." We then ordered a couple traditional Polish foods. They serve most Polish dishes. The food was amazing, and as I usually request, he made sure my dish was gluten free. I had the deer ragout, which was delightful. My friend tried the Polish beet soup and dumplings filled with ground meat. At the end, our waiter served us two glasses each of two different liqueurs commonly drunk in Poland. We had wine to the meals. The check ended in around 180 Polish zlotys, which equals around $57. I highly recommend this secret place. Even though it won't be such a secret for very long then.

Our colleagues, translator and guide, was from Poland, but no Warsaw. So we happen upon Zapiecek, and we're not disappointed. It was an almost 11pm when we decided it was time to find some food on this work trip and first time to Poland. So I wanted something of local taste. So my colleague suggested the pierogi. Now forgive me for not remembering the fillings, or the sauce, but the memories of just enjoying the flavors is still with me that I tried to find similar taste here in the States and have not found a place yet. From what I remember the staff were friendly and the setting was quiet and comfortable. So I do have fond memories of dining at Zapiecek, and would go again. So enjoy...

First time having authentic fried pierogis - wow! I highly recommend ordering the 9 piece assortment of pierogis or dumplings. I enjoyed their version of beef stew (great for dipping the side of bread!). Affordable prices, very friendly and fast service. I loved the house red wine, it paired great with our meal. Walking distance to many popular and fun bars, lounges, restaurants, and more. A gem that we stumbled upon - highly recommend if you are in Warsaw!

One of the best dining experiences I have ever had. The menu is small compared to other restaurants in the city but don't let this discourage you, we tried several dishes and everything was absolutely delicious and well prepared. The interior of the restaurant is tastefully decorated in the way someone's kitchen or dining room may be adding to the "homey" feel. Warsaw is filled with restaurants that offer delicious and authentic food. But if you want to feel like a local, and not blow a ton of money in an establishment that couldn't care less if you were there, pay Skamiejka a visit.

For example - Slavic people from Warsaw to Vladivostok like to feast on pierogi (dumplings). There are, of course, subtle differences between Polish pierogi and Russian vareniki and you can argue about who invented what in a way just slightly less heated then solianka soup at Skamiejka. Which is hot. And tasty. But back to vareniki - they are great. Both in general as well as these particular ones in the Russian restaurant that this very review is about. Try the potato ones! Going further - bliny. I tried the savory version, which was good, but I bet the sweet ones could be even better. I'm not an expert on Russian cuisine, but for me it was the best one I had since my epic day trip to Brighton Beach in NYC. Much better atmosphere too, as Skamiejka's staff was extremely nice and helpful.

We were lucky enough to get sat at a table pretty quickly but it was kinda in the middle of where the waiters were passing and the table was small. Which I'm not complaining at all. I was just happy they were able to accommodate us. The tables have an actual candle giving it a very romantic vibe. Our waiter was extremely nice and made us feel very welcomed. After taking our order he came over with a plate of complimentary sauerkraut and pickles. The pickles were extremely crisp and had an incredible mustardy flavor. The sauerkraut was also very fresh and could be eaten all by itself. The food came shortly after. We got a bowl of zurek soup in a pot and it was amazing. The soup had a beautiful almost citrusy taste with sausage and egg. We also got the pork knuckle that comes fried with a salad, french fries and a basket of bread. It's also served with sauerkraut plus horseradish and mustard to dip. Honestly the pork knuckle was so flavorful I didn't feel the sauces were necessary. It is huge!! I recommend getting the smaller size because the waiter offered us 2 sizes and I mistakenly went for the larger one. We couldn't finish all of it! But the food is amazing! There was also some musicians that walked in playing some music which was really nice. They walked around the restaurant. We also go their homemade lemon vodka and it was delicious. It was almost frosted and really refreshing. When we were walking out the door, we were shocked with the crowd of people waiting to get inside. So definitely make your reservations!!
