Great food, great service, and nice, welcoming atmosphere. Have been here twice and will go back again!

This place was a complete crowd pleaser: from the jump (more specifically, the shareable dragon style wild shrimp) you could tell they emphasize balance, flavor and the WOW factor, which really can't be understated when the food delivers...that's what makes a place like this memorable. Plus, it's a hidden gem kind of place for us, since we're not from the area and it took a little digging. They have the reviews to get your interest, and the food lived up to the hype. We came here after a charity MS Walk held at the Iron Pigs stadium in Lehigh Valley, heading north on the way home to Bear Creek. My brother noted how close they are to Penn's Peak, and since I've never been, it looks like we have a great place to chill post-concert when I finally get myself to a show there. The cheesesteaks are a far cry from wiz-wit, but that's how you want it and the chopped pickles bring that hit of acid, not Phish-enduced. The chicken sandwich was enormous but you could still get a solid grip; incredible crunch, flavor that's just more than the hot honey heat, and a refreshing crisp from the lettuce on that buttery bun. The Bourbon Blackberry BBQ pork was on the sweeter side, but why the hell not; the meat was still savory, the cheddar was the right call and the slaw cut through it all. Enticed by reviews, we drove an hour to Pocono Tavern. Absolutely worth the trip! Everything we ordered was perfection. Dragon shrimp were crispy and loved the spicy sweet sauce. Buffalo blue wings were juicy crispy and well dressed. The classic cheesesteak perfection, homemade cheese sauce delicious, the pickles are an excellent addition, and fresh bread. Jam packed, but room at the bar. We were completely comfortable, bartender was fantastic and kept up a great conversation here and there (when she could). I loved the wild shrimp appetizer ~~ I will be day dreaming about that sauce. I also loved everything about the crab cakes. I'm very curious if they also had salmon in them, but it was a different flavor and different in a good way, all good. My husband picked the seafood linguini and was pleasantly surprised (because he doesn't always pay attention to the ingredients listed). We love it here ! Strayed off course when visiting Jim Thorpe for a day trip and have returned several more times. Saturday night Karaoke is a good time & welcoming to all. Fun to listen if you don't feel like singing. Service is old school, top notch, attentive and easy going. The food coming out of the kitchen is fantastic. The chef knows what he's doing! Everything is fresh and flavorful. Better than what you'd think of a Pocono bar setting. Family friendly. Not a ton of seating but they've been very accommodating and welcoming when we've come with a larger party. Always busy when we're there but it doesn't take away from the food and service. We were camping in the local area and found this new place on Yelp. Its a cool local spot and the space is an old small schoolhouse. It was a Thursday evening and it was packed! Nice diverse menu. Owner was a complete jerk to his fellow customers. Came and sat at the bar with his friends and was talking bad about his customers. The owner was one thing but his friend was really talking bad things about and to his customers. It was a really bad experience I would not recommend people to go and eat there. Good food but horrible service from the owner. It was completely ridiculous that we were there to buy food and drinks and there to support there business and give them money but trust me I will never be giving them my money ever again and will be taking it somewhere else. read more

Staff does not listen, we asked to combine two half sandwiches together with potato wedges they took my sandwich away and brought back box for wife's half. When I asked where my portion was they just brought the half sandwich and none of my potatoes. Who knows where the sandwich was at before she brought it out after I asked. Went to Blue Mountain Resort to ski, and for dinner, we picked this place. Cozy, small tavern. We had the caprese salad and calamari for appetizers, both decent-caprese salad had a bit too much mozzarella and a bit too little arugula. For the main, we ordered the ny strip and the clams and linguini. Ny strip was very good, make sure to order medium rare for that perfect pinkish color. Clams are plump, but linguini kinda looked like angel hair pasta, very thin. The dish itself was overly salty, would likely not recommend. The staff were nice and welcoming. read more

We had reservations for tonight since it's Valentine's Day. Waited at the door for about 10 minutes unnoticed. We would have probably waited longer but I got a worker's attention. After a slow start...it was an amazing experience! The food was very flavorful and top notch! The service was pleasant and attentive. My only suggestion is to dress warmer because it was quite chilly inside and drafty. My husband and I did a special they were running. 3 for $50. Worth every penny! See pics for details. If there were 6 stars I'd give it that. Great experience all the way around! Our server was friendly, kind, caring, and great with our little ones too. Had the Philly cheesesteak today. It all starts with the bread. At first. When I saw it. I was thinking the bread looked a bit dense, maybe from the open face presentation. However, it was not at all. The roll was perfect. It reminds me of something right out of the best authentic Philly cheesesteak rolls. The meat was tender, homemade cheese sauce was outstanding, sautéed onions cooked perfect, and a few diced pickles gave an excellent textural difference. Wow! A quaint little gem in Lehighton. As we entered we noticed the restaurant was packed. All the employees had smiles on their faces while they were consistently busy. Our cocktails were made with perfection and the food was excellent. You won't find brand named condiments on the table, as the chef makes everything from scratch. My wife's beet & pear salad was stellar, as were the BBQ ribs. I enjoyed a steak burger that was ground in house, along with freshly made potato fries and freshly made relish and red cole slaw. We were in Lehighton and looking for a place to grab a quick lunch with our toddler. Thankfully, Yelp recommended the Pocono Tavern. We got there right at opening on a Sunday and we were lucky because the lunch rush followed shortly thereafter. My wife and I ordered cheesesteaks (BLT Chicken and Sicilian, respectively) and were floored by how good they were. Service was prompt and attentive, even with the crowd. A local tavern with typical atmosphere serving upscale food. Started with a grilled peach, beet & feta salad, then had an 18oz Tomahawk Pork chop (cooked perfectly) with grilled asparagus & mashed potatoes. Ended with an hot apple turnover a la mode! Every plate was better than the next! So unexpected! Kudos to the chef (& to our waitress who was helpful & super sweet). I cant say enough! Def going back real soon. Best food we enjoyed while traveling there on business. I read that they have recently opened, and our hotel manager did not know of them yet when we asked her. I had the tomahawk pork chop, my coworker had the stuffed flounder. We will definitely go back there on our next business trip and inform the others we know there to go visit. Worth the trip, prices are nice, nice interior, right off the side of the road, literally. Great meal before a concert at Penns Peak. I had 2 delicious crab cakes (no filler!) over mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. with a tasty sauce. Nice hot meal on a cold day. partner had scallops and shrimp over linguini with a great lobster rose sauce. Again, piping hot served in a frying pan which kept it from cooling off too quickly. Also shared an excellent fried calimari covered with arugula, bits of hot cherry peppers and balsamic glaze served with a dish of marinara sauce to dip. We shared a super crispy (puff pastry) warm apple turnover with caramel sauce and topped with a yummy dollop of ice cream. Service was good. Used to be Pappys Schoolhouse Tavern. Nice country Tavern with good food; but now it's the Pocono Tavern, taken over by a Philly Chef, who's taken the place several notches higher. The interior is still the same rustic mountain tavern decor, and needs a little facelift. Nothing to take away the rustic feel but perhaps add to it. Food was totally excellent. Very few places prepare Hangar Steak. They do and perfectly done. The wings?? House smoked before frying. You can eat them with NO sauce and enjoy every bite. The wing sauces are all home made. An easy drive there and certainly an excellent tavern with excellent food. Service is great, efficient, despite getting quite crowded. Highly, Highly recommend the Pocono Tavern when in the Jim Thorpe area. read more

My family and I stopped at Pocono Tavern and some had cheesesteaks which were awesome also grilled cheese amazing and chicken fingers which was very good.I also had a Fudge brownie which has peanuts in them and had Chocolate and caramel with ice cream and whipped cream on with a mint leaf and it was AMAZING! If you go have a brownie with all the goodies on it cause that alone was worth the trip there! But the owner came out and said hi and the waitress was just wonderful. Very friendly and I promise we will go back over and over again. Well worth the ride and am very PLEASED with all the food!! Yummy I promise!!! If I had to have something not 100% I'd say the cheesesteaks need onions but since A lot of people don't like onions you must ask for them if you want them but honestly I give this place a 10 all the 10's I can give them!!!! Ok, first time there. Had a concert in the area, so we made a reservation. Got there, stood in the doorway waiting for some to seat us(party of 2). Waitresses walked by, and looked at us. Not 1 person said anything, just kept walking by. Not a "we will be with you in a minute ". Nothing!!!! I know they have things to do, but at least acknowledge that we are waiting for a table. I don't care how good the bar food is, I will not go there again. read more
