A couple of weeks ago I had noticed my precious Smol Cat was losing weight quickly, and her normal…read morevet diagnosed her with stage 4 dental disease, which entails extractions. I know it's a necessity - but our family is not able to afford the surgery prices. I turned to Facebook to ask friends for advice. In response to my post, a friend put me back in touch with Cats About Town Society, a fantastic no-kill cat rescue group for whom I volunteered back during grad school. I was immediately able to get Smol scheduled for a consultation and then for the surgery last week. The process was easy and clear, very good communication throughout, and just reminded me of all the reasons I volunteered with CATS in the first place. It was also substantially affordable (comparatively), costing about 1/3 what we would have had to pay at her normal vet. Had it not been for CATS, I honestly do not know what we would've done. But because of the phenomenal committed folks at CATS, my baby is now healthy and able to eat again. I highly recommend CATS, both for adopting babycats AND for these surprise medical needs.

I know she needed it, but decided to shop around. That's when I came across Cats About Town! Under $800 which included extractions, pre-surgery check up, transportation to and from the surgery center and post surgery meds!! They were so great with Zoey, and as she is older, made my worries less. I'm happy to say Zoey is doing GREAT, even sneaking bites of the kittens food when she can . Thank you Suna and staff (I'm sorry, I don't remember the name of the very nice vet assistant). They're a lifesaver, literally!

After over 7 years without a dog in our lives, my family was finally ready to add a four legged…read moremember to our household. I contacted 5 rescue groups and I have to say that Chako out shined them all. I contacted and met with one foster within a couple of days at a park. Although the dog wasn't the right match, the foster was incredibly helpful. A week later, I saw another dog pop up on the website that I was interested in, so I filled out another application. It was received and replied to promptly. They let me know that it would be forwarded to the foster and I would be contacted shortly. I received an email from them a day later, asking to set up a phone interview. We had a long chat and he informed me that another application had come in for the same pup before mine. I appreciated the honesty and he gave me a lot of good information & resources. I ended up adopting from our local shelter but I wanted to thank Chako for their professionalism & courtesy. We are looking into their classes for our little man. Thank you Chako!!

If you are looking to add a dog to your family it is important not to buy one from a pet shop, off…read morethe street, or from an ad. Adoption is the way to go. Not only will you not be contributing to the breeding and overpopulation of dogs, but you are helping to save the lives of the one you adopt and also of the one that can now take it's place in the care of a foster home. Because rescued dogs are kept in foster homes, their personality, behavior, and habits become known, and they usually get some assistance with training and learning house manners while there so as to come better able to fit into their new home. CHAKO evaluates dogs for soundness of temperament before taking them into their rescue program, and they also offer ongoing socialization, and training classes. If you live in the Sacramento area and already have a bully breed dog that needs some additional training, this is a good resource. Wonderful dogs are always available to adopt so check them out, or you can volunteer to become a foster and have the pleasure of helping many dogs over time. We had booked a private tour for his birthday to meet the rescue animals who call this beautiful place home. Yasmin met us at the entrance and, after swapping shoes for some solid boots, gave us a very honest, very real, and very important rundown of industrial agriculture. Now, I have to add, neither of us are vegan or even vegetarian, but Yasmin proved to be an actively non judgmental, compassionate host. She walked us through the grounds, addressing each animal by name, and was full of knowledge and insight! After the initial meet and greet, we were off! We hiked across the beautiful grounds and met tons of sheep (Jet loved my partner!) goats, and pigs; all of the animals roam freely, coming and going as they please. It was actually delightful how so many of the animals came up to say hi and hang out out of their own volition! We brought some grapes for the chickens and they LOVED them! But oh my god, the turkeys. Wow, just, two little friendly, fluffy orbs that floated around our party showing off while Yasmin gave us an informed and empathetic story about them. She did that at every habitat; letting us in, introducing us (by name!) to the boldest of the bunch, and explaining how they ended up at Animal Place. It was an entirely wonderful, enlightening experience. Also, fyi, turkeys are so soft. I cannot recommend this organization enough. 10/10, please give Conrad an extra treat for me!

We had applied with multiple rescues across Sacramento, but many were non-respondent or had old legacy listings for dogs that were no longer available. When we saw "Fuggle" pop up on AdoptAPet.com one morning, I knew I had to put in an application for our family, despite feeling hopeless that it would not go anywhere. The application was quite thorough, but was quite similar to those we'd filled out for our Berner. I received an auto-reply stating they would reach back within a week, and lo and behold 7 days later, I received the happiest news and sweetest email, "I am happy to tell you that we have selected you for my favorite puppy! He really is the cutest.  What is your schedule like? I am hoping to do homechecks this week and then have the puppies picked up from the adoption event this weekend.  Just to make it easier for us to get it done :)" We quickly got in touch for a homecheck after work one day, were officially approved and were able to take "Fuggle" home just 13 days after submitting our application. The adoption process was so incredibly smooth and easy, and everyone at Recycled Pets was incredibly nice and professional, from the home visit, to the foster parents, to the adoption day. We've since attended a puppy reunion with his litter, and have joined a wonderful online community that celebrates everyone's extra-special love for their Recycled Pet. I'm so happy that Recycled Pets helped us find "Fuggle" but just as happy that we have such a caring and loving rescue organization here in Sacramento.
