Our yard is probably one of the most challenging yards you could imagine, set on a steep slope with a septic mound taking up the majority of the backyard which makes it difficult to do much with the space. We had recently purchased a new construction property and the seller (Justin Smith, The Homescout, LLC) bailed on the outdoor work before it was completed leaving us with a poorly built, unpermitted retaining wall and considerable grading and drainage issues. Littleton Earthworks came to the rescue and helped us mitigate many of the issues with creativity and thoughtfulness that we didn't see from the any of the other companies we spoke with. Dan from Earthworks proposed some great solutions and seemed to enjoy thinking through how to solve the problems at hand. The end result was so much better than we could have imagined and the regrading gave us a significant addition of usable space in the backyard. And, when we had a tropical storm come through the day after work was completed Dan came back with his crew to reseed and install an erosion control blanket for a nominal price, really going above and beyond. They came out to take a look around while I was at work and emailed me an estimate for the job, no scheduling or effort needed on my part, which was great. I called a little late in the season, but they were able to get me on the schedule with no problem. Their standard fall cleanup comes in two phases: once part-way through leaf season and again around Thanksgiving once the leaves have fallen. Their team did a great job both times (and my house has a *ton* of leaves, we are practically surrounded by oak trees). They removed all the leaves, raked up acorns, and left the yard looking great. We had used Concord Tree and Landscape in the past, and although there were sometimes issues we…read morewere usually able to resolve them with Shawn, the owner. We returned to using them last fall after another contractor ghosted us and they did a fine job on our fall cleanup. But this season's maintenance contract and agreement for some additional work were a very different experience. We repeatedly spoke with or exchanged text messages with Shawn or emailed the office. While Shawn sometimes responded (the office did not), his responses and the behavior of crews sent to our property had no relationship to each other. A crew was repeatedly promised and didn't show, or a crew showed up for a few hours and left without finishing the work. We wasted hours and changed work schedules to wait and be available to help direct the crew to what needed to be done, only to have no crew show up. When a crew did show up, they had no plant knowledge and pulled out perennials they shouldn't have despite being walked through and helped to identify things. Work was consistently sloppy. A separate project plan estimated with the owner, then amended with him, was poorly executed and left unfinished. We were then double billed, both for the full original estimate and again separately for the amended scope of work actually done. When we pointed out the error, staff doubled down - sending photographs of unfinished weeding work under our general maintenance contract to "prove" that two additional separate projects had been completed. We ended our contract with them mid-season. Sorry to have to do this, since we like Shawn and have worked well with him in the past. But we can't afford the headaches and costs of fixing the messes and we wouldn't recommend them to others.

He uses vague language as to what exactly the scope of his work will cover. I tried multiple times, but failed to get him to spell out whether his price included what I had asked him to do. He throws in a "base price" at you for "what HE wants to do" but not what YOU asked him to do; then he wants to charge you extra for this and extra for that. Don't waste your time. Tree service companies are dime a dozen and there's no need to deal with unethical people.
