Iain thoroughly snaked the line and got everything flowing properly again. While he was working, he also pointed out that the plumbing under our kitchen sink had a lot of smaller sections, fittings, and connections that could be simplified to minimize future issues. What I really appreciated was that it never felt like an upsell. He mentioned it simply as something I might want to consider in the future. I was actually the one who asked whether he could just take care of it while he was already there. He even hesitated because he wasn't sure he had all the necessary parts on the truck, but checked and was able to get it done. The new setup under the sink looks dramatically cleaner, simpler, and stronger. Some of the old fittings were pretty finicky, so I'm especially glad I didn't continue trying to tackle it myself. Iain and Steve spent about three hours between clearing the drain, rebuilding the piping, and making sure everything was working correctly. Now, he did have to go to the store for the part (15), and I guess $105 for the base charge of visit is normal (?), but $20 for "truck" charge? Since when do you get charged for gas? He never did this before. And, when he spent almost an hour taking out my water filter under my sink, he charged me less than this five minute swap of faucet. Work is great, price not so much anymore. He told me he had driven to Rancho Bernardo before me and the client refused to pay for the house call and was complaining about the gas to get there and back for nothing. Was he making up gas charge on me, who lives four miles from him? You will see my glowing references in the past. But as a senior living on Social Security, and the fact it took five minutes to do, I think $140 was outrageous. This was double than my last visit by him. Disappointed. Great work, but I can't afford him anymore. And can't refer him as being reasonable anymore either. Should have listened to my neighbor and used his handyman. Wish him well, nice guy, but adios. And not to get into the whole backstory, but there was a small request that was that was verbally agreed to that I thought they might renege on.
