I don't spend a whole lot of time up in Hamilton County, however, a recent work conference gave me…read morethe opportunity to spend some time at Hamilton Town Center. Hamilton Town Center is essentially an open-air mall. Developed by Indy-based Simon & Associates, Hamilton Town Center opened in 2008 right on the cusp of when the more traditional shopping mall was starting to wane in popularity and developers were exploring options. Hamilton Town center features over 85 shops/restaurants and is designed to resemble a streetscape. Some of the dining options, in particular, are free-standing buildings in outlots. While I think it's pretty common to associate Hamilton County with a more affluent clientele, one of the things I like about Hamilton Town Center is that it has a nice diversity within its shops - from definite high end options to more "ordinary joe" type outlets. Hamilton Town Center also hosts Emagine Theatre (the former Hamilton 16 IMAX). I suppose a minor quibble would be that the vast majority of the options here are national chains, though I noticed a lot of the national chains tend to be smaller chains that might surprise you they're a chain. Being a Simon Mall, Hamilton Town Center has a rewards club and there are some online shopping options. Like most malls, Hamilton Town Center tends to host holiday events and has a Santa every holiday. Generally speaking, accessible parking is plentiful and curb cuts are well done. There's at least one very nice greenery area that seems to draw the kids quite a bit with its various playground-lite equipment. There's a definite "sprawl" here in terms of the landscape. If you have mobility issues, you may have difficulty if you want to go to several different stores at opposite ends of the "mall." In terms of accessibility, it works. It's just a bit tiring. I considered going a 4-star and a 4.5 is probably more accurate, however, the real clincher for me is that I like the diversity of shops more than Castleton and I like the economic variation more than Fashion Mall. I just feel like there's something for everyone here. While the mall generally opens at 10am, I do kind of wish they had a decent breakfast/brunch option. However, that's pretty easy to find within a mile of this growing area. If we're being honest, Castleton is okay but has definitely declined. Fashion Mall is just fine, and I definitely like the food options, but it's more than a wee bit pretentious. Greenwood Park Mall is probably the closest comparison, though Glendale Town Center is weaving together the hybrid experience these days. Washington Square and Lafayette Square? Um, yeah. No. While Central Indiana has other options, this is definitely one of the better mall experiences in Central Indiana and it's an easy drive from pretty much anywhere in Marion and surrounding counties.

We took our fashionable dog to American eagle, francescas, bath and body works, and of course three dog bakery. All of the staff at the stores were really nice to us and our dog and we felt comfortable in the stores. I also appreciated all of the safety measures at the stores like masks and outside lines. This is also just a pretty mall to walk around on a nice day. We rounded out the day with lunch at Pies and PInts in the mall which is dog friendly as well! We had an awesome sweet corn pizza and the dog was given some water and they were really kind to him.

This review is about the mall only and not any of the stores. This mall has a lot of potential, but…read morehas really fallen on hard times. There are more stores closed than open and the mall exterior needs some major TLC. There were very few patrons in the mall. It had a strange feel to it. There were more workers than shoppers. The mall does have some real hard workers that are very friendly in the stores, most of which are small and/or local business. I like to support local, but someone needs to take over management of the mall and put some money into it. I could not find a food court or bathroom while I was in there. The mall may have had them but I just could not find them. The mall has a reputation for being rough and unsafe. The area that it is in may not be the best, but I never felt in danger during my daytime visit. I don't think I would recommend going here just to shop around, but if you have a specific destination in the mall in mind, go for it.

I've been a resident of Indianapolis my entire life. I remember when Washington Square Mall was a…read moreSimon mall. I remember when it was a vibrant, busy mall with a unique design that made it a rather fun place to shop. While one could possibly argue it's always been one of the lesser malls in Indy, for many years it held its own and served Indy's Far-Eastside pretty well. I'd been to Washington Square maybe 3-4 years ago, partly because I wanted to visit the adjacent Target and partly because I was just a little bit curious about a mall that had a reputation for having gone way downhill. What did I find? It was clearly deteriorating, but it still had a little bit of charm to it. It was probably about half full with locally owned businesses, but you couldn't help but wonder if it had any hope of surviving. I was in the area today and wanted to do a little bit of wheeling for exercise. I figured "Why not check out the mall?" Oy vey. Washington Square Mall is officially a dump. I mean it. Seriously. There's officially no legit reason to ever go near it, despite the fact that a handful of national chains continue to keep their shops open including Target (though the entrance from the mall is now closed), Burlington Coat Factory (I'd check the coats for lice here), Bed, Bath & Beyond (It's more like Bed, Bath, & Be Careful), and Victoria's Secret (The Secret is shame and low self-esteem). I believe there may be a Dick's Sporting Goods in here, though it may have actually closed. Truthfully, it was hard to tell with the handful of customers who seemed to be more meandering about than actually shopping. The vast majority of the stores seem to either be variations of nail salons, hair styling, small gift shops, a handful of ethnic restaurants, and at least a couple churches including longtime mall establishment Movie Theater Church. There are at least a couple of entire wings that seem to be shut down, though in some cases it's simply true that the stores open for select hours such as evenings only or weekends only. Judging from the complete lack of customers, the notion of being open 40 hours a week here is kind of silly. While this mall has experienced crime, fairly regularly, the truth is I never actually felt unsafe except for one particularly unusual wing of the mall where almost everything was closed and people kept coming out of one particular spot. They didn't bother me. I didn't bother them. However, it's also worth noting that the lighting in the mall is haphazard at best, the automated doors are in disrepair, any notion of decor has gone way out the window (much worse than Eastgate before it finally closed), and, at the risk of coming off the wrong way, at least 2/3 of these stores gave off the kind of aura that made you think better than using a credit card because you weren't quite sure who would end up with the numbers. Unfair? Perhaps, but the vibe was undeniable. The truth is that I love dives. I live in a rough area. I'm not hesitant to go anywhere, but I truly can't fathom a reason I will now ever go back to this run down retail outlet that is in serious, and I'd dare say unsafe, disrepair from the parking lot to the hallways to a good majority of the stores. You know how you kind of laugh at the Segway riding, completely unarmed mall cops in other malls? At Washington Square, mall security is packin' (but actually rather friendly!). The Far Eastside seriously needs this mall to work or to give way to some sort of different retail outlet. As is? For the handful of stores you might like, it's worth driving out of your way to go to safer, cleaner, and more customer friendly locations in other parts of the city.

I had a problem with one of my answers I assume to give in the pre-survey. I did the pre-survey the day that I was assigned the shop and I had a mistake. Rather than allowing me if you to make the mistake right they just dropped and canceled the shop. I do not feel that is very professional at all. I feel like if you're going to have a company represent you and obtained shoppers for your company they should be professional just like you are. I would appreciate a change in the coordinators that you have currently. You should be more amenable to changes and helping your shoppers, do their job to the best of their ability. I would then resign with you as a shopper.

Let's face it. Yelp is really for the most part as a place intended for independent and local…read morebusinesses, but this doesn't mean that we don't occasionally cross that line and review the chains. I don't really fancy the idea of reviewing a Walmart Supercenter preciseley because we all know they're primary benefit is low prices - everything else, with rare exceptions, is pretty much a weakness. I've been to this one more than a few times as a shopper primarily because it has always felt less likely you'd get shot here than at the one on Keystone. I also find the customer service typically a wee bit higher at this Wal-Mart than Keystone. I also now have a Neighborhood Market closer to my home, so lately I've not had to really hit the Supercenters as much. There are a handful of national retailers participating in the vaccine roll-out (at least here in Indiana). After exploring some options, once I qualified I decided to go ahead and sign up at this Wal-Mart because it's fairly close to my home and they were offering an appointment only about a week away. Since I knew it would be the pharmacist giving the injection, what could possibly go wrong? Oy. I arrived about 20 minutes prior to my scheduled and confirmed appointment. I'd pre-registered. There were cars in the parking lot, though it was emptier than usual. I quickly learned that they'd had the power go out and were not allowing anyone in. In fact, they were practically shouting at anyone who tried to come near the door. Obviously, I needed to know how they were handling scheduled vaccine appointments for a vaccine that would spoil if not frozen (since the power was out). Of course, I got met with "I don't know anything about that." Hmm. Well, how about you actually go ask? I mean, this is actually a scheduled appointment nobody had bothered to cancel and, well, certain life or death issues? I'm just saying. Alas, they were too lazy to actually inquire. Nearly 24 hours, I've received no contact from Wal-Mart to actually reschedule and, as such, will likely have to start the process all over again. Once again, Wal-Mart proves their customer service to be a zero. I give an extra star for honestly low prices. Truthfully, I should have known better than to not go to a medical center. Never again. Never again to Wal-Mart.

Within one complex, you've got the Center for the Performing Arts, Carmel Farmer's Market, Christkindlmarkt (during the holidays), Hotel Carmichael, and a number of other retail options, restaurants, and entertainment options. It's all, quite literally, within walking distance (well, unless you're like me and don't have feet. But, you know what I mean). Because this is a central area, a good number of the Carmel festivals will happen around here. You've also got live music and theater (including Civic Theater also housed within this complex). Accessibility is pretty strong since so much of this area is new. I've had my quibbles with accessibility involving the Center for the Performing Arts, though in talking to current Mayor Sue Finkam there's a definite effort to go beyond ADA and to truly become more accessible. Free parking is abundant in this area and the arts district is about 1/2 mile north. Dining options include Aroma Experience, Divvy, The Old Spaghetti Factory, The Cake Bake Shop, Eggshell Bistro, Lone Pine, Graeter's Ice Cream, and others within walking distance. Retail options include Kits & Kaboodle (a great toy shop), 317Home, A.D.A. Vintage, Addendum, Baseline Social, and a host of others. I will note that most of these shops lean toward the more premium experience. There's definitely no Dollar General to be found here. There's definitely a lot to offer here and it's nearly always crowded. I also like that the website will tell you which stores are closed on bad weather days. As accessibility continues to improve, I may very well move this up to a 5-star experience. For now, it's a definite 4-star experience and it's definitely a place I can easily spend the day once I arrive and also enjoy some time on the Monon.
