My son-in-law is currently (April 2026) on the surgical unit on the 8th floor at Erlanger Health System, and I want to start by saying we truly appreciate the kindness and care he has received. The nurses and staff have been attentive to him, and that means a lot to our family during a stressful time.
However, I do want to share a concern regarding how family members are treated--specifically my daughter, his wife. She is young and has very little experience being in a hospital setting, especially in a situation like this. At times, instead of being guided or supported, she has been handed responsibilities such as changing his bed linens while he stands nearby. This has made her feel uncomfortable and overwhelmed.
We understand that hospitals can be busy and that family involvement may sometimes be encouraged, but it should be communicated clearly and offered with support--not assumed. A little patience, kindness, and guidance toward family members--especially those who are new to these situations--would go a long way.
Again, we are very thankful for the care being given to my son-in-law. We just hope for a more supportive and understanding approach toward loved ones who are there trying their best to help. read more
