I am a health care provider. My wife and I came in to the ED at approx 9 pm with a possible surgical emergency. It is now 3:48 am and we are still sitting in the lobby. There are 6 people in the lobby and 3 of them are family of the other 3. These situations are what Emergency departments are for. Not the runny noses that have consistently gone back and discharged throughout this night. The quality of care has been garbage. Update: finally got admitted 8:30 pm the next night. In-patient care has been excellent. read more

I had a calcium score test done on Dec 5th. 3 times they called before reminding me that my test will cost 69 dollars. I paid it the day of the test. At no point during those 3 conversation or during registration, that the test was actually 300 +. Yesterday I got an email informing me that I owe 240 dollars. This behavior is not fair to the patients. I want the option to decline e a service based on price. I was not provided that option. Be careful, these big businesses are all about money not the care and well being of the patients. read more

went in for several injections in the SI joint for ongoing pain. procedure went smoothly until the 'TRANSPORT NURSE' that was to return me to the post-procedure room, injured my arms when she lowered the procedure table without any notification. I had to be in prone position for the procedure and arms under the table. She suddenly lowered the table, confining my arms which resulted in a huge HEMOTOMA that is on my dominate arm. Needless to say, this is going to be a bigger problem that I started out with. It is a painful and dangerous injury at my age. Will need to see another doctor for treatment for this. I had to ask for "ice" to immediately treat the rising clots. Staff very unconcerned, just discharged me . read more

my sister was admitted nearly 3 weeks ago. she is bed ridden and wants a bath so badly but the nurses won't clean her. she is in pain and needs medication but has to wait up to 2 hrs to get it because the nurses are busy. doctors are vague, when I asked for clarification on why a surgery failed. one oncologist said "anatomy issue" when I asked for clarification on what that meant he repeated the same vague answer "there was an issue with the anatomy" when my tone got a little sharp with "what does that mean?" the doctor's face turned demonically angry he snapped at me and scared me into silence. still didn't answer the question and left the room. hospice case manager walked into the room looking annoyed because she showed up an hour early and had to wait for us to get there to talk about hospice plans. interjected herself a couple of times, when I began to speak she rudely cut me off in midsentence, and said "who are you?" to which I replied I was her sister. I didn't get to finish my sentence. the woman had no tact, no sympathy, and should not be working with greiving families or dying patients. from Hospice CM, to Oncology Doctors, to Nurses and even CNAs the amount of incompetence, neglect, and disrespect that I have witnessed and experienced in the short 36 hrs that I had been there is quite honestly shocking. I would never suggest this hospital to anyone unless it is about a lawsuit. in fact I am surprised this hospital has not been sued out of existence. such a horrible uncaring team of Healthcare "providers" i have ever had the displeasure of experiencing. please do yourself, your loved ones a favor and transfer out to a different hospital, or just don't go to this hospital at all. you won't receive anything but neglect. read more

My one week stay at Memorial due to a broken Sacrum was one of the worst experiences of my adult like. The Nurse Practioner behaved like he was a robot and was unable to answer any of my questions. Yesterday I called 911 for I have COPD and could not stop coughing and could not breathe well. The ambulance that picked me up were terrible. The woman on it bossed me around. I told her please take me to Erlanger where my lung dr is at and she had gotten angry and told me that they are only taking me to Memorial Hospital. I told her my insurance does not cover me at that hospital and she became bossier. She told me no way is she going any further. Never in my life has that ever happened to me. She is working in the wrong field. At the hospital they were very nice and I told them what happened and they were so nice about it. The nurse's and doctor very nice and knew what they were doing. This hell hole and their incompetent staff and administration killed my Mom in CVICU after her heart surgery. The nurses, except for a few are bottom of the barrel straight out if college, and don't care at all. The third night my Mom was in there Dr. Zellner ordered a blood transfusion and the nurse administered too much nor watched for any reactions. They are dangerously understaffed. This nurse Shannon Jarrett ni longer works there and now works in another state. My Mom almost died from this botched transfusion and her organs started shutting down. She was placed on ECMO and fought for her life and came off that machine within a week. The day she was taken off these idiots started giving her daily (sometimes multiple tin a day) blood transfusions. I had a medical expert look everything over once I got a second chart and she said my poir Momma didn't stand a chance in there. They you tortured her like a science experiment. SIXTEEN BLOOD TRANSFUSIONS on a heart patient already in fluid overload is as stupid as it gets. They were giving them to her up until the day she died. She fought so hard for almost a month. She failed swallow studies because they were giving her cold hard ice. Once I got her Medicare statement I seen they were charging for things she never got. No wound care was ever done and I had no clue. When i seen the pictures in her chart I fell to my knees. One nurse, Hunter, was usually with her and needs his license taken away. He's a trouble maker and his laziness resulted in my Mom getting every infection possible and they not ONCE told me. Not even when she got E-Coli which is insane. They never told me she was receiving daily blood transfusions either. I would have made them stop. It's common sense you don't continue doing that if it's not helping. It made my Mom worse and caused her to go into Iron Overload.. which caused a bowel obstruction and septic shock. She also had liver shock and they damaged her kidneys as well. Not ONCE did ANYONE take accountability. The day she died around 5:00 in the evening NO DOCTOR COULD BE FOUND and the nurse manager or whomever had pulled another incompetent nurse from another floor with no experience or my Mom's condition. Michael Haggan you should be ashamed of yourself taking on a dangerous assignment!! Dr. Zellner told me "She's im Heaven with Jesus" when I met with him to discuss what had happened to her the last day. There is NO charting at all! They wanted her dead or they would never have allowed a nurse to be with her not familiar in cardiac or her condition and then no Dr. could be found?!! Shady business!!! They have been in trouble for abusing Medicare and that's what they were doing to my poor Momma. She fought so hard for weeks and then jjst let her die. When I got to her, I didn't receive any phone calls that whole afternoon from them, they left her like garbage. I have PTSD from finding her with blood on her face, a dirty gown with dried throw up on it, eyes open, and jaw hanging open. They gave her no respect at all. Not ONE person was in her room. All the staff disappeared and it wasn't even busy. I sat there with her like that for hours and not one person came back in her room and I finally had to ask to clean her up myself. The medical expert also said they've never seen anything like this in their 30 years working in healthcare. My Mom was discriminated against because of age. They have been in trouble before for Medicare abuse. I said of she were under 65 she'd still be alive. I also met with the CEO and she didn't care. The Dr. she had in the meeting didn't know my Mom and took 15 min before I got there to look at her chart. Every question I asked his answer was "I don't know"! Even when I asked why her surgeon lied on her death certificate putting pneumonia! She not ONCE had pneumonia. Another way they do and get away with fraud!! Profit over patient is their motto. And Hannah Profitt in Risk Management is a joke. I was bawling on the phone to her about things being allowed and my Mom's care and she did NOTHING. Told me to have a lawyer contact them! Ya'll please be careful if you're admitted here. It's a shame they won't let you stay with your loved one in CVICU or even stay overnight in the waiting area. Only getting two hours with them.. you have no clue what's really going on. My Mom was able to tell me she pushed her call button needing her nurse one night and they just ignored her. I asked where they were and she said at the desk laughing and careying in. It hurt my heart so bad and then seeing the nurse that gave her too much blood be rough with her while she was complaining about wanting to go home. My Mom was the sweetest person ever and she apologized to that awful nurse now works in another state for having to work so hard because of her. Dogs are treated better. CVICU needs an overhaul and I haven't stopped advocating for my amazing Mom since the day I had to bury her. read more

I know this is a bit late but my hubby had a colon resection and they took his rectum out due to rectal cancer. The physician was wonderful and the only problem was when he came out of surgery he apparently had a corneal abrasion. That was the anesthesias problem they didn't cover his eyes. This recovery was great. All of the nurses and nursing assistants were wonderful. That was in 2013. Then in 2015 he had to have a 5 vessel open heart surgery. Let me tell you about my Dr & Hospital. We have always preferred Memorial Hospital downtown Chattanooga. Always been very pleased with care we have received there. Nurses there have always been very kind & caring so have the technicians when I have gone in for test. I almost panicked when they were working their contract with Blue Cross. Didn't want to lose my hospital. When I we diagnosed with lung cancer I was blessed to be referred to Dr. Robert Headrick. It was explained to my husband & me exactly what would be do he for me. They took their time to make sure we understood what was happenings. During these last 6 years they have always been there for me. Dr Headrick, Dr Miller, Jeremy & Marlana make such an awesome team. This review is about my mom's experience and from her perspective as a 30year ER/Critical Care RN: I visited the ER on the 14 December 2018 for chest pain and shortness of breath. I had to walk the long hallway for an x-ray coming back to the waiting room was difficult because I was short of breath. After going back to the waiting room to sit down I was call for the EKG got it done then went back to the waiting room to wait. after nearly an hour I was taken inside the PA and nurse came and interview me. I told them what was going on with me. It was over an hour before my labs was drawn. As an experience ER nurse chest pain patients are not treated that way. EKG, and labs are done immediately. I was admitted to the observation unit for 24 hours to get a stress test. I was taken to the unit at 5:30 pm and was placed in the bed. No one came in the room for 2 hours to take my vitals or place me on a cardiac monitor. At 7:30 pm I went to the nurses station and ask for the charge nurse, the secretary wanted to know what I needed, I told her I have been lying in the bed for 2 hours no one came to put me on a monitor or do my Blood pressure which was very high. Her remarks was, I was wondering when someone would come and see you. The charge nurse then came and her reply was we change shift at 6:pm. I informed I should have been placed on a monitor and for 2 hours I was in bed and not the nursing assistant came in the room, I could have been dead what would they have told my family. I never let anyone knows that I am a retired RN. Because everyone should be treated the same. I told her as a nurse this is unacceptable. After hearing I am a nurse that was when they start doing things right. Over due labs was done and I was placed on a cardiac monitor. Later I spoke to the house supervisor. Is this the way to care for a cardiac patient or any patient. I will never go to that hospital or recommend it to my family. Does the color of my skin as to do with the way I was treated from in the waiting room to the observation unit? Many of the staff of color would agree. My mom and I are both health professional with many years of experience between us. She kept me out of the loop because she knew I would have probably lost It due to the negligence and safety issues that could have had fatal outcomes. What would they have told me if I came in the room and my mother's body was cold? No words... read more

I absolutely do not like this hospital. My mother was there a week ago and she was there for about 12 hours, they run some test and did blood work on her. She said everytime the doctor would actually come in to talk to her, his cellphone would ring and he'd leave the room. Then he finally come in and told her that her sodium was low and they were releasing her. My mother was sick, yet they sent her home. Now she is back at the hospital and I can't get anything but attitude out of the male nurse I have to talk to. This is ridiculous! I'm not happy with this hospital at all. I fell & hit the back of my head extremely hard. I had my mother drive me to er. I went here because my doctor is here. Took forever to get ct scan & X-ray of foot. Because when I fell my foot hit wall. I had a concussion & 3 broke toes. I was starting to feel bad. They gave me muscle relaxers & pain pills. Then sent me home. I got to er around 3pm. Discharged around 12am. I was still feeling strange. I went home & fell asleep. The instructions did not say I couldn't sleep. Nor anyone had to be there. But I did not wake up until 6pm. When I woke up... I had no idea what day it was, I felt sick at my stomach, very confused & dazed. Heard phone ringing but my mind would go blank. I finally figured out how to answer it. My mother came over. And brought oxygen. Because I was having trouble breathing. This lasted for a couple of weeks. I slept a lot. I was very weak. I felt like I was so drunk that I couldn't do just simple things. No appetite at all. Nausea mostly. Pills did nothing for me. The oxygen helped me mostly. The doctor at the er did not say anything would happen like this. I was so scared. I eventually started feeling better. But I think I should have been kept over night. This was before COVID-19 too. When I go for my doctors office visit. It always takes 2 hours or longer. Actually 2 hours is the shortest I've ever waited. But my doctor is good. So are the nurses. My complaint is with the registration staff in entrance F of the downtown hospital outpatient services. I have never felt so discriminated against, belittled and humiliated. Absolutely no customer service. They made me feel like I was a burden to them and unwilling to help me in the process of outpatient registration. These are the frontline people, representing the CHI Memorial Hospital. They should be friendly, courteous and excited to have your business. I will never go here again, but if I have no other options, I will bring my coat of armor. On the other hand, the people I encountered during my diagnostic testing were absolutely adorable and professional. Yelp is just the beginning of my voice. read more

If I could give negative review, I would. My daughter went there Thursday night, and they gave her fluids and nausea meds, sent her home, and told her to follow up with her primary doctor. She couldn't get in with her primary, so she went to a walk-in clinic Friday. They told her to go back to the ER at memorial because she was severely dehydrated. She called her primary and they told her the same thing. She went to memorial, and only saw the triage nurse, but they would Not see her and told her to go to her primary, even tho her primary told her to go. When we got there the lady between the outside doors to inside doors of the Er was rude and no hospitality, so I was expecting a long night. But then I got to sit and watch Greg P, a great security guard go above his call of duty. Greg P, grab blankets for patients that are cold, he pick up a clip board and stuff an elderly lady drop at a instance before anyone else had a chance. He calm a young lady that were having an anxiety attack and never thought anything about it. There was so much more, that he was doing and upon his great acts of caring even the grumpy lady that were working the doors, became nice. Memorial Hospital - Hospitals Near Me - Chattanooga, Tennessee

CHI Memorial gives zero respect to the family members of patients in their care. I've had several family members in their care and I had to find people in the ER to take care of them. And even then I had to beg them to do something. One of those times it came close to causing a much bigger problem and that problem could have resulted in death thankfully that didn't happen. CHI Memorial doesn't seem to care. You can't be with your loved one in recovery, why? What are they hiding? Maybe its you will see nurses on their cell phones that what I saw when I was in recovery. Statistics show that when patient and family members are reunited the patients recovery goes up 100% and so does their down time after the surgery. It also show the death rate dropping image that. I will never use CHI Memorial their policies over rule good basic health care and that's wrong. I truly felt like they owned me and they didn't care what I thought they only thing they cared about are/were their hospital policies. read more
