Maybe you're a car guy. I'm not. There is little more intimidating to me than walking into a garage to get ANYTHING done to a car. Fortunately, I have developed a foolproof method for getting good service: once I find a mechanic I trust, use him for everything. It's worked like a charm. When I moved to Brooklyn I started using a Midas and it was OK. Then a couple of weird things happened and I asked ten or twelve friends and acquaintances if they knew a reputable, reliable mechanic I should use. All but one said that Gerry and Adrian at Borough Park Auto Diagnostics were the best in the area. I was sort of shocked by the unanimity of opinions. Only one person suggested another place. So, I called and made an appointment for an oil change and to check all fluids and tires. From the moment I walked in and started talking to Gerry, I knew everything was going to be OK. It's been about five years, now; and I can't imagine going anywhere else. When Gerry says: "You need the thingamajig replaced because the whatsit and the whatchamacallit are wearing out," I trust him. I know he isn't just jerking me around - he's helping me keep my car safe and running well. If you are looking for a mechanic in the area, you can do no better than these guys.

The shop told her the entire muffler system had to be replaced and instructed her to pay cash, charging her $580. After the "repair," the car was worse than before. Strong exhaust fumes were entering the cabin, making her light-headed, and the check engine light came on, which had never happened prior to their work. When I returned with her to address the issue, the mechanic never used any diagnostic equipment but immediately blamed an O2 sensor. He also told my mother he did not charge sales tax, yet the paperwork clearly shows tax was included. This experience was deceptive, fraudulent, and like a complete rip-off, especially toward an elderly customer. Instead of fixing the problem, the shop charged a large amount of cash and left the vehicle in a dangerous condition which it did not arrive in.
