Have tried for dine in as well. Had pork carnitas tacos which were average. Table side made to order guacamole was pretty good, probably not something I'm running back for. I was in Morgantown, traveling alone staying nearby and needed something to take to the room. To be truthful, I smelled the aroma before seeing the restaurant so I decided to go. I ordered the chicken fajitas with rice and beans that also included chips, salsa, Pico and sour cream. It took very little wait time and I was out the door and safely back in my hotel room. Inedible food. I personally have never been to this particular restaurant before but I ordered a taco salad for carry out. The taco salad was more like a taco shell with undercooked and gross meat and 10 tiny pieces of shredded lettuce on top. Salsa is like marinara sauce. The rice that came with my meal was literally orange colored rice with a ton of salt in it, no other seasoning added. I threw the whole meal out- what a waste of money. read more

I don't give 5 stars often but this place deserves it! We've visited Morgantown to see our WVU student twice since Plaza Azteca opened and if we lived in the area, it would definitely be a go-to. It's a little pricey for a Mexican restaurant, but you get what you pay for - fabulous service, huge portions and amazing food. On this past visit to MoTown, we dined at Plaza Azteca twice in 4 days. First things first, the margaritas are perfect! I love that they don't use bottle margarita mix - fresh juices and agave nectar is the way to go. The lavender margarita is so unique and the Plaza Azteca margarita is what a margarita should be but the one that blew our minds was the Smoky Mezcalita. Amazing taste and arrives at the table with a smoking cinnamon stick in it! Wow! Be sure to order the fresh guacamole prepared table side in a volcanic stone bowl. It's so delicious and the gals will make us as mild or spicy as you want it. It could be a meal in itself it's so big. For our first visit with 4 of us, we stuffed ourselves full of so many good things sharing several dishes. The Seafood Chimichanga is absolutely amazing. It's filled with fresh, large shrimp and lump crab meat and the lobster bisque sauce on top is out of this world. So much flavor and so satisfying. The Birria Tacos are one of the most popular items and now we know why. The broth is so good. And you would think the tacos dipped in the broth before grilled would be soggy. Nope! They're perfect! The carnitas are pretty amazing as well, some of the best we've ever had. Perfectly marinated and then cripsy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. Now on to the second visit... Again with the table side guacamole and margaritas. I mean, when in Rome...errr Mexico...either way, it's gotta be done! My daughter had the Burrito Tejano and not only is it huge, but it's delicious. Her roommate had the Pollo Asado. You would think grilled chicken would be a boring choice for a restaurant like this but it's actually really flavorful and good. Now on to the BEAST. The meal of all meals! Me and my husband were a getting a little stuffed from the margaritas, chips, salsa and the guacamole so we decided to share an order so we didn't eat too much. The joke was on us when we ordered the Molcajete Azteca. WOW! It comes out in a hot volcanic stone bowl which we thought was going to be the size of the guacamole bowl. It's not. It's bigger and deeper, shaped like a pig (see pics) filled with shrimp, steak, chicken, poblano peppers, green onion and pineapple in a cheese sauce with flour tortillas. This is the bomb! So damn good that we ate until we couldn't eat another bite...and then we ate some more. We thought it would be enough to feed 2 but instead we figured out it could really feed 4. And we understand the necessity of a siesta! Aside from the amazing food, the restaurant is spotless clean and the service is impeccable. All the servers are attentive and accommodating but our favorite is Charles. If you attend WVU games, you'll recognize him dancing across the screens during the game! We have came here a few times and it is on the pricier side for Mexican, we like to get the guac but it's $15 plus tip for the service. The drinks are really good we had the guava mojito and the OG margarita and they were both delish. The entrees were the disappointing part the last couple times. The chicken inside the chimichangas had no flavor and were in large chunks. The restaurant itself is really cute there are neon signs and greenery everywhere. The only "seasoning" in this MEXICAN FOOD was salt, and way way waaaay too much of it. This is one of the top Mexican restaurants here in morgantown. Immediately chips and salsa are prepared and supplied as you order your appetizer and meal. I personally recommend the elote corn for an appetizer any combinations of the tacos or quesadillas. The quesadilla is not exactly what you think (i.e flat and cut in 4's) as it's absolutely FILLED with meat. The place has a lively environment with many TVs and a combination of drinks including a house margarita that's excellent. It's a great place to eat regardless the time of day. Being from Miami and having experienced one of the greatest markets for Latin food, I'd rate this a 4/5. It's an excellent option and one of the consistent Mexican restaurants here in town. read more

Used to be regular customer not anymore! Server did not understand a basic Carnitas taco with corn tortillas order. They brought me Carne Asada a complete different meal, I said this isn't what I ordered so they took it back and chopped up the meat and brought it back out. Still asked manager to fix it and he argued for 5 mins back and forth after proving the server was wrong he then would offer the correct food after 20 mins of this whole situation!!! Very poor practice to argue with customers regardless of a $13 meal I was paying for either way. Server service has been going down hill as well unfortunately here, always someone new serving when you're a regular, not anymore! Hope this helps someone to not have a family function or party here! Would drive 30 mins else where to avoid this place in particular and go too Uniontown, El patron(Better reviews) Overall service should not be going downhill unless there is a management problem (which seems to be) the servers should be crystal clear on what is being ordered since the prices are super high compared to any other Mexican restaurant, the English barrier should be a minimum for working here and not hiring anybody to serve. I used to go here all the time because the birria tacos and margaritas were always amazing. However, the last time me and a group of friends went for a birthday we all got food poisoning. Most of us ordered meals that included chicken and we all got so sick. Two of my friends threw up in the bathroom at the restaurant as soon as they were done eating and the rest of us threw up after we got home. We were all sick for days. The food is generally good but falls short of authentic. Our meals arrived a bit delayed but ok. my food was exceedingly salty and could not eat it. I invited the chef to taste it for his own evaluation but did not get feedback. our waitress was kind enough to offer some rice to dilute the saltiness but did not work quite well. was charged for the extra rice though. Still trying to figure out what I really think. Tableside guacamole nice delicious, but very pricey and not done with too much excitement. Margaritas very delicious but very expensive a average of $12-$15 plus and not that strong. Bring your wallet if you want to get drunk or for just two will run you close to $30 or more. the plates are very large I have not found anything to be very impressive. The burritos or just OK. The tacos are OK. they do have some good lunch specials . Overall the food was just OK with the prices moving up to the next level. The service was OK I just wish the food was better so I could tell you more Overall I'm not sure if we will be back But we haven't completely given up but after three or four tries just not that great. 0-5. Would not recommend. This was probably the worst Mexican food I've ever eaten. We would have been better off at Taco Bell. The salsa tasted like straight tomato paste or cold marinara. Chips were served in what looked like dog bowls. I got the enchilada supreme. They came out cold and bland in flavor. The steak one had a rotten meat taste as well. I'm guessing the good reviews are coming from the multiple staff that were working and just standing around. Not sure how long this place will be around. The lack of cars in the lot on a Sunday evening should have been our first giveaway to the quality. read more

Huge place, but can still fill up on Friday and Saturday night. This is my favorite Mexican restaurant in town. Lots of different items on the menu that you don't see elsewhere. The service is friendly and professional, and they have a full bar. Table-side guacamole or ceviche, or skip the show and have it made in the kitchen. Communication can be a little difficult at times, but it's authentic and I've never had a problem getting what I'd like. Super friendly staff, very clean restaurant and bathrooms. My husband, son and I just visited Plaza Azteca in Morgantown, WV, yesterday. For me, it was a mixed bag. Read on for details: Pros: Super Fresh, Tasty, Large Portions, Comfy Leather Padded Chairs/Benches, Clean, Stylish and Open Dining Area, Friendly/Competent Waitress. Hubby LOVED his vegan bowl! Cons: Pricey. They only offer ONE size margarita--and it's huge...and it's $15. My husband and son brought distilled water with them. We ordered Empanadas, Ceviche, Vegan Bowl, Birria Tacos (lunch version) and Sonora. Our bill was $85+ (gulp). I asked for sour cream. Turns out, they charged me $2 for that. The ceviche was made tableside and had a LOT In it. So fresh! The only drawback was that they put tilapia in with the shrimp; it gives it a fishy taste, yes--but not in a good way. I guess they did this because they're shrimp is SO fresh, you can't taste it (which is actually a good thing). The music that was playing was SO loud and obnoxious (it sounded like Mexican Clowncore)--and the waitress agreed. She turned it down twice, but then finally changed the playlist (Gaga, Katy Perry, etc.). The music was SO manic, it was anxiety producing. Crazy! And to think I had to ask twice just to get the volume down (we couldn't even hear each other across the table). All the TVs with a large central bar. This gives the place more of a sports bar feel than a restaurant. It's not bad--I mean, at least the TVs had no volume, but it doesn't feel like a relaxing family restaurant. More like a place the bros go to get beer and tacos on a Friday night... In all honesty, Chili's margaritas are much better than this place (the best I've ever had, in fact--especially their strawberry Presidente margaritas). And while Plaza Azteca DOES have fare you won't find at other restaurants (el pastor marinade, ceviche, birria tacos, etc.)--it's not enough to lure me back (especially when restaurants like Uniontown, PA's Fiesta Azteca has such yummy, though standard, fare--and only mixed-based margaritas). And certainly not for $85+! read more

We drove in from out of town to stay in the nearby hotel and stopped here to grab some food - it looked so cool! If I hadn't been tired from the trip I would have stayed and hung out, great atmosphere. We ordered some food to go and they were really nice, quick and we had our food in about 10 minutes. Went here with my hometown friend for the first time and we absolutely LOVED it! The decor and ambiance was super cute and had lots of good photo ops. We ordered a margarita which was massive, the burrito mex and birria tacos. We definitely recommend the burrito, but we weren't huge fans of the birria tacos (a little too plain for us but if you like that go for it). The price was appropriate for the quality and quantity of food. Our server was Alfonso and he was great, super charismatic, very attentive, and made lots of recommendations. We could tell he was busy but he still managed to make sure we had the best experience. Will be back again!! :) read more
