We came in for a quick late lunch because we had an event that evening, but just needed something to tide us over. They didn't seem particularly busy at the time, but they do have a really big dining area it could've just looked like they weren't busy. We were a little bit disappointed with the service: we had to wait to get our server's attention a couple times to ask for napkins (we weren't given any) and for a couple drink refills. No other complaints. Our table ordered the carnitas lunch special, lunch fajitas and chicken burrito lunch special. The portions were pretty good. The lunch fajitas and chicken burrito lunch special were pretty good, but were a little on the salty side. For the carnitas lunch special, I expected a little bit more flavor, but it was still pretty good. If you ask for jalapenos, it'll cost you $1.75 for one. Just a heads up. lol We had an okay experience: nothing too bad, nothing to rave about either. If we are ever in the area, we may come back and try other dishes though. read more

First time to this restaurant and I'm sure my last Stopped in for a quick Mexican food fix And it was fast , but the quality was nill ! Had a 12 Oz XX beer for $3.99 , and Super burrito (lunch special) for $8.99 . Ok , but the beef isn't n that burrito was obviously just thawed burger with no taste at all. First time here. My SO and I came from PA to check out food lion and were hungry and found this place. The reviews were good and it smelled amazing inside. The chips were cold but the salsa was really good so I was excited. I got a chicken taco & two flautas. One was beef tips the other chicken. And a chicken chimichanga. It was a meal deal to get one of each, no rice or beans though and only the chicken chimichanga had a cheese sauce on it. Which was the only thing that remotely had any flavor. Needless to say the chicken was gross. It was dry, flavorless and tasted like it was sitting in water all day. I was very upset. Nothing was seasoned! The beef tip filling was the same. Dry and no flavor. Where was the seasoning!? And why was it dry as a desert? It was awful. I even tried dumping the salsa on it. Nothing could save that meal except a trash can. My SO got a burrito and fries. The fries tasted like they just nuked them out of the freezer. It was horribly disappointing. The service was good but the food was not. We definitely won't be back. I don't think I've ever had food this bad. I barely ate it and didn't get a to go box. Please season your food and don't let it get dry. Could have nuked the chips a bit to take the stale out. read more

I am from Arizona, so tamales are a Christmas-time tradition. I worked in Mexican restaurants in the southwest and lived in Mexico for a year. I stopped in this afternoon and ordered 4 tamales to go, when I found they were on the menu. Then I sat down and ordered 3 "Sidewalk Tacos" (like Street Tacos out west), with carne asada, cilantro and onion to eat there. The food was plentiful, tasty and quite authentic. The tacos were served with beans on the side and three saksa choices. I loved the tomatillo (green) salsa, but found the red salsa a little too sweet for my taste and lacking spice. Super disappointed. Used to love this place... manager is testy and rude. A few weeks ago I asked for no cheese or sour cream he said "flick it off with your spoon" What?! I thought he might be having a tough day? ‍ Today, I went in to have a drink and chips and place a big order to go. He said since we were doing a "to go order too, no chips" This is crazy and ridiculous. Not sure what was going on but felt super awkward and not service oriented. Large menu and all the food I've had was great. A pretty typical Mexican American menu you'll see everywhere. We come here after long weekend of climbing and driving back to Pittsburgh. Good place. Got a flat tire on the way home from vacation and Walmart was a little behind. Decided to grab some dinner and this hit the spot. All 4 kids ate and it was good. Not to authentic but will work for someone broke down in West Virginia. The best surprise here was the beans. I don't eat beans but the wife does and she said they were amazing. Not sure how to rate this place. I'm here from so cal for three days. Searching Yelp for some Mexican food (probably not smart but I'm adventurous) I find this place. There were two low ratings but for what I usually feel is BS.... One time service issue and some lame we're open no we are not open issue. Dismissed! So I went there to try it. I walked in and went straight to the bar, as per usual. Dude asks what I want and I order a Cadillac Margarita. He asks "what is that"....???!!! At first I was in disbelief. Come to find out later, two other bars didn't know what it was either. So, that issue is dismissed! So this guy, was rude, short and a smart a$$. Attitude at every turn... All the way up to me getting my food. The guy who brought me my food was great. Nice guy, talked, explained, etc. Great bartender. So.... I'm not real sure where the first guy came from and where he went. But for real, don't really care. Anyway. Meat and taters..... Carnitas were awesome. Beans decent, rice okay, and the tortillas store bought. If the original guy had been normal I would have given 4 stars but since he was an a$$.... well, there you go. There are not name choices for authentic Mexican food in the area which is too bad.... But as long as you get the right employee, this place has good grub. read more

Just opened and it looks like a nice place from the outside. Walk in and you are greeted by a polite staff and seated. Nothing special with the interior decor but I came here for the food... the chips and salsa brought to your table are on target..the chips are warm & crisp with a fresh medium salsa. The draft beers are reasonably priced as are the Margaritas. I ordered the carnitas and the waiter recommended it also. The food is average but tasty. The tortillas are straight from the store as are the refried beans...if they made these fresh it would be just awesome....maybe they will? read more

We frequently visit El Rey and it's always been a wonderful dining experience. Last night we had a surprise birthday party for a our friend. She came in a bit after everyone arrived and asked if she could get a drink. The manager came over and asked what was the problem, and told her that the server was busy at the bar getting the table drinks. He also told her that she needed to be patient and was very rude. He asked what was wrong with her, she simply was asking for a Dr. Pepper. The food was disappointing as were the cocktails. I then saw the manager go to another table and the mom said her child wouldn't eat certain foods, his response to her was appalling. He told her if he doesn't try it how would he know. We will not be returning. You ruined the surprise birthday party and hurt the birthday woman's feelings. read more

We've been here several times in the last month since we noticed it was open. The food is delicious! Their salsa is the best I've tasted in this area. The chicken in the dishes is moist and not dried out as you can sometimes get at other places. This is our new favorite restaurant not just favorite Mexican restaurant. The first and last time ordering food from this establishment. My daughter was picking up a carryout order and came home in tears from her experience. The person who was waiting on her, yelled at her for taking to long to arrive to pick up the order. She was there to pick up the order in 30-40 minutes. The restaurant estimated 15-20 minutes for the food to be completed. Folks is there ever a reason for upsetting a customer to the point of tears!! She also said that the experience made her feel stupid in the way that she was spoken to by the male employee. Customer service isn't always about the customer being 100% correct all the time but it is about being treated fairly and politeness. read more

I am in town for a few days and I have been here twice for dinner. The exterior is by no means appealing however don't judge a book by its cover! I was impressed with the interior which was new, fresh and clean. You are immediately seated and greeted by the staff. The chips and salsa are complimentary and I was very pleased with the homemade salsa. I have had better chips but they are still delightfully palatable. I ordered the same dish both nights because it was amazing! I highly recommend the shrimp enchiladas served with a green sauce. The sauce was tangy and fresh. The enchiladas were stuffed with shrimp and cheese. The second night I came I substituted the rice for the refried beans and boy are they creamy and delicious! The house margaritas are tasty and I recommend the medium size. The small is just too small. The second evening I had Thomas as my waiter. He is very pleasant and a hard worker. Shockingly it was busy for a Wednesday evening and I was impressed to see the staffs work ethic. Congrats to the crew in the kitchen who know how to cook! I wish I lived closer because the food was excellent and made me miss true Mexican fare in Juarez from years past. read more

My boyfriend and I have tried many different dishes and have always left happy! Their side walk tacos, tilapia dinner, & veggie fajitas are to die for! We are always greeted by the staff and welcomed which just adds to how delicious their food is. If you want GOOD Mexican food this is the only place to go!! They hop right over you with good service, fresh warm chips and the usual thin but tasty salsa. You have to brave the nastiest parking lot known to creation by apparently the restaurants absentee landlord, but it's worth it if you can keep your car out of the potholes long enough to park. read more
