Since my friends have difficulty with being on time, one of my girlfriends and I wandered into the bar to avoid pneumonia. We stayed on the ground floor and sat at the bar to kill time. We realized we didn't want to change location and continued our night there, because in all our years of bar going, it was the first time bartender saved us from a belligerent drunk. After the years that followed this became our go to place. It became our cozy little (not little at all) spot. read more

This place was just what I was looking for. The beer selection was very good with local choices as well. The food was very good and was served quickly. The waitress, apart from being a total cutie, was very friendly and was knowledgeable about the food choices. Great place to go if you want a cozy atmosphere, drinks, good food, and want to be close to everything. If you are in a group, it works well for that too. However, my experience was less than satisfactory because all of the staff assigned to my group spoke limited English. Some orders were not correct. When we asked that they be amended, another different order was presented, so we just gave up on trying. The food was good, just not what we primarily wanted. When we were finished with our meals, a couple of us asked for to go boxes and the server had no idea what I was saying and refilled my drink instead. Good food. Bad service. read more

Had less than 30 minutes to grab a quick quick dinner and catch a show. We went to ask if they could help us. The woman at the door called upstairs to check and much to our surprise was told yes. She could guarantee we would have hors d'oeuvres quickly. When we got upstairs I decided to go for an ask if we could order more than hors d'oeuvres. He said sure. My wife ordered a pizza and I ordered a burger with switch cheese and grilled mushrooms. It was out within 10 minutes and delicious. We made our show and had a great quick meal as well. Chicken had blue plastic baked INTO it. I don't even know how that was possible. You know toothpicks that they put into sandwiches, and they have colored plastic on top? That's what it looked like. Just a huge chunk of blue plastic when you cut into the chicken. They offered free desserts as compensation, which were horrific and not as described. read more

A bit pricey, but right near my hotel so I stopped in here more than once. We were here on St Patrick's Day and it was the only place without a huge wait. The food was actually really good, but I thought it came in small sizings. The menu was also different for St. Patrick's Day as well. I've been here before and the food and service was great. However this time around, not so much. Came here for an after-show dinner and the experience was nothing special. The waiting staff ignored us a bit an d rarely cam over unless we called upon them. Their drink menu isn't complete. They have many more drinks posted around in the bar area. Normally, this is perfectly fine, but when your sitting on their rooftop lounge and there are no blackboards with any extra information, it is a bit disappointing to find out later. The food was okay. We ordered nachos and wings. Nothing incredibly special, but not bad either. I would come back again in the hopes of receiving as great a service as I did once before. We Came here before our Broadway show. We were kind of in a rush, but still hoping to have a sit down dinner. The food was quick and we had two of their signature that were good (and really big!). We had brunch on their rooftop. It was small and quaint. I had the crab cake brunch special with the complimentary mimosa. Crab cakes were okay, had more bread than crab. Cakes were served with caesar salad. Service was good and our server was very attentive. This is a good place to grab a quick bite. Did not check up on us at all. Outdoor seating was oddly setup and mostly in the sun. The mixed drinks were limited and they didnt know 'how' to make others not on their menu. Pretty sure they were just lazy. Price was ok but for three stories and only one bathroom working, what a joke. Never would go back. Try out any other place than this joke of spot. read more

This pub was awesome! Went on a Friday Night and the vibe was great. Great servers/bartenders even the bouncer was very welcoming. We didn't eat but food looks great and price is reasonable with what you get. We did hit up the bar on the second floor where Mike our awesome and entertaining bartender served it up with great service, awesome new drink recommendations, and even past stories that he shared with us was very entertaining! It's our first time in New York and the misconception of New Yorkers being rude changed after meeting Mike! We also met other friendly New Yorkers! Anyways I gave it 4 stars only because I didn't get a chance to try their food but overall service, vibe, and atmosphere was amazing! This is constistantly a restaurant I come back to everytime I come into the city. Although a bit akward to actually work your way to the restaurant area, once you are there a warm cozy dinner awaits. The staff is generally friendly and efficient. The menu has a wide range of entrees to choose from and I have found that they will work with you in you want to substitute one item for another. The prices are fair and almost every dish I have had served to me over the years is nothing but top notch. I'm glad you continue to thrive in New York City. We tried to get away from the Theater district to grab a bite. This is what we came up with! I had the Celtic burger with swiss and bacon at 14 bucks. It was nice and juicy, and it came with fries. They were a bit undercooked, but not greasy. My bud had the chicken pot pie. At 17 bucks I expected the chicken to do a song and dance. Our server was Johnny on the spot. The place is well worn and very dark. With all the other options within walking distance. I will not be back! read more

Last minute my friends and I decided to see a play and were looking for a place to eat afterwards. Typically, I stay away from the Theater District for dining as the food is usually over priced and awful, but we could not get a reservation on such short notice so we were forced to stay in the area. They (I was overruled) decided on the Celtic Pub because it was close, and as they said... "It's pub food how bad can it be?" Let me tell you...bad! Being a food snob and really not willing to eat there I only ordered a grilled cheese. Geez, how simple is that? What I got was white bread, that was barely toasted with melted Velveeta cheese! Some one needs to explain the difference between toasting and grilling to the kitchen. And Velveeta - is that even considered cheese? Even now when I think about it it makes me sick. The french fries were refried so they took on a transparent oil yellow color (similar to the paint in the bathroom) and oozed grease when I touched them. Needless to say I did not eat my "meal". My friends had other "dishes"...Margarita pizza, or tomato paste and cheese, Fish and Chips, or grease with a tarter sauce that burned your mouth and Nachos that were soggy and just plain uneatable. Basically, this place does not serve food, they serve the crap you would get at an AMC dine-in theater where they at least have the courtesy to keep it dark so you don't see what you're eating. If my tastebuds had hands they would have beaten me to a pulp and dragged me out of there half unconscious, and it would have served me right! As for the decor, they still had their Christmas decorations up so it had a bit of a lively atmosphere, but if you looked beneath that, it was gross and dirty. And to add insult to tastebud injury, my table had an unfortunate view into the kitchen! I have no idea how they scored an A rating - unless A stands for AWFUL! Note: For all you out of towner's (or even if you live in the boroughs) if you think you're stepping into a little bit of Ireland and an Irish lass with a brogue is going to wait on you - think again. read more

Four of us, all locals, because apparently that matters, went for a post-show drink, and got a table on the third floor bar. The older Irish woman bartending acknowledged me (She told me I needed to find out if two people at the bar were Australian or British, and then laughed like she had horribly insulted me. I still don't understand it.) and proceeded to ignore me for 10 minutes, while she chatted with other patrons- not poured them drinks, just shot the breeze with them. When she finally took my order, she rolled her eyes at pouring a Manhattan (I felt a little sympathy, because it's a weird order for an Irish bar, but still. Be a professional) and then poured one of the four drinks before walking over to take someone else's order. So we walked out. I'm used to subpar service, especially at touristy bars, but this was over the top. read more

Stopping in this place was a mistake. We were seated right away, but it was all down hill from there. It is very rare that I write bad reviews. I ordered the sliders based on the server's recommendation. Two of us were starving after walking the city all day, but between the two of us, we only ate 1 out of 3 sliders. They were so bland, completely lacking in flavor. Even a little salt would have earned them 2 stars. We let the server know, and then we were basically neglected from that point on. We had to flag someone down to get our check...I was sad to see that we still got charged for the flavorless food that we didn't eat and even complained about. In my past experiences, if I had to complain (which is extremely rare), I either am offered a new dish or am not charged for the dish. Had this been the case I would not be writing this review. Or I would have given them a little better rating. Oh also, our server had no idea what the Yelp deal was. She told me three times that we had to purchase the first beer (duh--buy one, get one free). Oh, and we almost made off with someone else's American Express...and someone else with our card. I'm sure we would have gotten further with the AmEx... read more

Came here when we had 40 minutes to kill before a Broadway show nearby. The bar upstairs was far from full yet it took the bartender a good ten minutes before taking our order. Not a bad place. I'd totally come by again to maybe sit down, relax, and have drinks and food. I only stopped in to grab one drink to kill some time before a Broadway show. At this time there was only standing room though. The drink was pretty weak honestly and a typical 10 bucks a glass. But I guess that's not horrendous because I can easily find places that charge 12-14 bucks a glass lol I really liked the atmosphere. I mean- it is currently Christmas time so that might have helped a bit but the place was decorated so nicely- looked like something out of a holiday movie. They were also blasting Christmas songs - but the most popular ones haha Like "Do they know it's Christmas time" by Band Aid. That one always gets me in the mood :-) Only stayed for about a half hour. Food walked by on trays and it looked pretty good. Bartenders were also pretty fast with service. I'd come back again- but maybe order a bottled beer instead so I know I'm getting what I paid for ;-) read more

Walking around looking for a bar, stumbled into the play right... the day time bartender over charged me for all my drinks.... a table had an argument with their nasty waitress.... then two of the waitress stood next to the bar talking trash and using profanity about the table... loud enough for customers to hear what they were saying. Overpriced crappy food. But thats the norm for that area. We had to go here with friends who's family wanted to eat close to their hotel, we tried to tell them not to eat at a place like this, but they didnt listen. I ask the waiter for a drink/wine list, he says "red or white" I'm like....um, white? He just lists what they have. So I got sauvignon blanc , it tastes like the wine you get at duane read that has 6% alcohol and is mostly sugar. I'm actually pretty sure thats what it is. Mushroom ravioli- It says garlic, shallot, sauce yeah it's not, it's literally the gravy you put on mashed potatoes with some mushrooms in it. The ravioli is hard (assuming frozen) , the mushroom in it is kind of gross and the gravy is just weird with it. Burger- B/f says it was "ok" kinda bland and it looked over cooked. The fries were good though. So were the wings. Noone out of our party seemed to really enjoy the food. Also they wouldn't split our check. There was 10 of us, I get not wanting to split it 10 ways, but they wouldn't let us split it on TWO cards. And my bf and I got there 40 mins after the others, we should obviously be on a separate check, but no, they added ours to the table, so we had to run and get cash. How stupid. I'm a bartender, and have worked in this industry for a long time, I would ask the couple who just sat down if they wanted a separate check. The service sucked, the space is cramped, the bar is extremely out-dated and the food is nothing special, mine was definitely not what it says it was. They also play pop top 40 music. At an irish pub? Weird. I would NOT come back here, ever. But if your a tourist and your staying right there and you just don't feel like going anywhere else, I guess eat there, but stick with something like chicken fingers or fish and chips. They cant do sea food, burgers or pasta. Definition of tourist trap. Do yourself a favor and go a few subway stops down or walk to some places in Hells kitchen, your money will be much better spent on good food! read more

My boyfriend and I had lunch here on our last day in Nyc. Food was mediocre; nothing special. Our fish and chips was slightly too salty. French onion soup was meh. Then my poor boyfriend discovered a fly in his glass of water. He complained to our waitress and she simply apologized for some 'warm weather' in the kitchen (we went in November). My boyfriend took out the fly and put it on the corner of the table and she did not even bother to remove it! And so we spent the rest of our meal with a fly on our table... Then my boyfriend decided to order coffee... wrong call... the coffee was ok but the creamer was full of lint and dust and some questionable brown specks. Then we became suspicious on what was in the coffee... YIKES! We decided to not say anything to our waitress. Then we paid our bill... I think at that point nobody cared to give us good services any more. We did not even get a 'thank you' like other (older?) guests. Bottom line is we don't suggest this restaurant at all! read more

Finally they brought it, but never apologized or bothered to comp it. The waitress did not check on us again. I would have not tipped her, but to my chagrin the restaurant included an 18% gratuity. Stopped here for a couple drinks prior to attending our Broadway selection. We sat downstairs street level, we liked the atmosphere, so we went back after our show to have dinner and some more drinks. We went to the top floor outside seating area in hopes of being able to have a smoke while we drink. We are not smokers at all, but we do enjoy a couple smokes sometimes while we are drinking and talking. Even sitting outside the first thing I saw was a no smoking sign. That's okay because like I said we are not smokers so we don't have to do it. We had a very good meal, everyone's food was very tasty. The place was clean enough, but the worst service we had in NYC. At one point I got up, went to get salt, ketchup, extra plates and napkins myself from next to the bar. Walking by our waitress with these items in hand, she looked completely unconcerned. We sat without drink refills for a very long time. Our waitress actually seemed bothered by everyone's presence. Food being so good made this a 3 instead of a 2. read more
